He did understand it, he was just very aware of the fact that it was hard to follow. I also don't believe he was trashing this, he was simply saying "Look, Ridley, you're better than this, putting out movies at this frequency is no good for you".
Love Kermode, love Mayo but Body of Lies is a good movie, its not the book but its pretty good, with good performances and a nuanced and subtle message that the Middle East isn't the black and white place we believe it to be. Kermode is God.
Anyone know what the Eminence Grise pun / reference is at 6:00? Also have they moved Amman to Lebanon now? I know it's crazy round those parts but didn't see that coming!
It's not and I don't think he said it was but the majority of who'll go to see it will be Ridley Scott fans and they'll expect more, of which they won't be getting.
Body of Lies wasn’t bad or not bad enough to say that it’s a step down from American Gangster which would’ve been garbage if it wasn’t up to the cast that pulled it off.
I thought body of lies was better than American Gangster. I’ve watched body of lies many times but American Gangster just twice because of the cast but that was enough for me.
I found it a good watch, decent story, , and performances in general, kermodes reviews do baffle me at time's, and mark strong was head of Jordans security not Lebanese ffs get it Right
Whilst the film has great acting, style & great direction, the film’s lack of storytelling & the use of the film’s spy genre is what destroys the film. (47%) (2.5/5 stars) (mixed)
An average review by Mark Kermode, one highlight of his is the Sex in the City review - terse, scathing and uncompromising. Of course I have disagreements with him on films such as Taken and Quantum of Solace. However he is clearly well versed in film and does know his subject matter (some may scoff at thesis on horror fiction). I find his output more engaging than the likes of Andrew Collins or James King.
Is it racist that Mark Strong went brown and put on a wig and accent to play a Jordanian character? Why couldn't they have just hired a Jordanian actor? They didn't hire him as a 'name' to bring in money because they had Crowe and DiCaprio to do that. I also thought that Crowe's character was rather pointless and nobody really knew what was happening, including me. Mark Strong was definitely not the best part of this film, DiCaprio was by a mile
Why do they never hire Russian actors instead of Americans with horrible accents? It's not racist unless you make it so. And how is it always the white boys looking for racism where there is none? You don't get to cry about it if you're not from Jordan yourself.
mark, here's an idea. how about you review a movie rather than spend literally 75% of the time making no sense whatsoever, and talking about your political preferences...
He finally got around to doing the Gucci movie.
damn, took only 13 years
Why they were talking about the house of Gucci back in 2008
"The Tintin look is one I must get Brad to pick up on."
I would have paid good money to see a Ridley Scott Monopoly movie.
I hear Denzel Washington was being considered to play the shoe.
"It's a whole bunch o' cake, mate."
i'm glad they brought up mark strong's performance in this film - he was the best thing in it, as hani salaam
He did understand it, he was just very aware of the fact that it was hard to follow. I also don't believe he was trashing this, he was simply saying "Look, Ridley, you're better than this, putting out movies at this frequency is no good for you".
had no idea house of gucci was in development for 13 years plus
Tony Scott would have made a better version of this.
RIP
that is one flappy handed thumbnail

He forgot to mention "Someone to Watch Over Me" and "Black Rain".
Russell Crowe and Mark Strong are so much fun to watch in this.
Oh wow so this is where the Gucci biopic started. Just rewatched Body of Lies. It’s still disappointing.
We finally got our Gucci biopic.
go see the movie, it really isn't a bad film..
He's just so funny and riveting, get him on the box asap

A refreshingly contained review.

I couldn't follow this film at all, nightmare to keep up with. Saw it in the cinema :(
you shouldn't leave the house , and you should have a full time carer ....

Hello to Jason Isaacs
i liked it

Chestle waistle 😄
What the hell are you talking, man?
i dont care what anyone says this film is 100 times better than all of the Bourne films

Monopoly isn't going ahead
I wonder if Mark and Simon eat extra beans and cabbage so that they can have extra own farts to smell? As they really do like to smell their own.

@@shapeshifter7676 because what you've said has nothing to do with skin colour.
@@shapeshifter7676 Did I say it was racist?
@@johnmilnes8118 Why not?

Is Leonardo EVER believable?
One of the worst films i've ever seen.
What a non-review of a film. wow
