    that's amazing.. you just subtly didn't actually spoil the Sixth Sense. That's just very cool.

      +Blue Whovian Just cause you know what happens in the end, there's no need to mention it on a RUclips comment and spoil it for some other people. I've already seen it though. It's okay, probably an honest mistake, just a heads up for the future. PS. If you still haven't seen The Sixth Sense, you should watch it anyway. I already knew about the thing at the end before I saw it, but I watched it anyway, and it's still an incredible film.

    "It's not about numerology, is it?"
    "No, that's Number 23, which Jim Carrey clearly thought was three times seven".
    Brilliant throwaway line!

    The ending isn't supposed to be a surprise though. The film reveals itself as it foes along allowing you to work it out in your own time. I thought it was great and Will Smith was fantastic in it.

  • @blokey8

    I don't think so. He's an ex-Trot from Manchester, who missed his graduation because he had work, and he's constantly joshing Simon about being very upper-middle class- witness the post-fencing banter.

  • @realSimoneCherie
    @realSimoneCherie 2 года назад +6

    This ridiculous rant is centered on the fact that the film is predictable? As if it's supposed to be a thriller/suspense?! Lol, it's a DRAMA! Is Titanic a bad film because it's predictable, or is it a drama and not MEANT to be suspenseful?

    This is the first Mark Kermode review that i disagree with. I think its a really good movie (albeit far fetched). And i got a little emotional at the end. No shame.

  • @vernonallen3370
    @vernonallen3370 2 года назад

    A bit harsh, I rather enjoyed it, I don’t like many Will Smith films, they’re a bit too blockbuster pop corny for me but this was ok. I think Kermode’s judgement was coloured by the non-disclosure proviso, that kind of hype would probably irritate me also.

    Ouch, i gotta disagree with mark on this one, sure the ending wasn't a massive surprise but i thought will smiths performance was sheer quality, i suspect mark has some kinda of prejudice against "big name actors" like will, was one of his best perfomances in my opinion, but hey ho thats just me.

    The film is well acted, stylish & well directed, however the film’s slow, dull, depressing & is A modern US take on Angela’s Ashes (1999). (35%) (2/5 stars) (mixed to negative)

    you have to be such a pretentious movie critic to hate this movie. Sure, it's predictable. I honestly think that's kind of the point, and even if it isn't, it works beautifully. The whole time you know will smith's character is going to die. if you just watch the movie without looking at it through some ridiculous lens, expecting a corny version of will smith gunning for an Oscar (such a strange criticism), it's amazing.

    Mark Kermode was simply poorly primed before watching this film.
    By the producers asking him not to give away the ending, he was probably looking for a crazy twist whilst watching the film.
    Without the initial priming, he may have enjoyed the film, like the rest of us who weren't necessarily looking for a twist, but perhaps assumed it was a simple story of loss and love.
    I blame the producers for warning him not to give away the twist ending, but also Mark's ignorance to the shift of standpoint that this caused.

      27% on Rottentomatoes. Who are "the rest of us"?

    • @tomstone36
      @tomstone36 9 лет назад +1

      nikosvault Rotten Tomatoes: Critics - 27%; Audience Average - 3.6/5 & 75% "Liked It" from 635k Users.
      IMDb: Critics - 36%; Audience Average - 7.7/10 from 203k Users.
      Meta Critic: Critics - 7 Positive, 14 Mixed, 12 Negative; User Reviews - 76 Positive, 5 Mixed, 31 Negative.
      If you take the time to look at those statistics, you will notice that although critics disliked this film, with some horrendous reviews, many wider audiences enjoyed it. They are "the rest of us".
      Taste is subjective and can be easily affected by external influence, it is not for one person to definitively tell us what is good and what is not, when the matter of judging art, in all its forms, has limitless variables and parameters: That is for each individual to decide.
      I have watched many films where I have been disappointed because (I suspect) what someone told me, or what I'd heard before watching the film, affected my expectancies. Likewise, when I've watched films that I know have had bad reviews, I've often been pleasantly surprised.
      NOTE: Whilst it is virtually impossible not to hold some sort of preconception of a film prior to watching it, I did not read any reviews before watching Seven Pounds.
