Not a whole lot of people enjoyed Jared Leto’s interpretation of The Joker in 2016’s Suicide Squad- but Leto was quick to rebound from that and get cast in a Sony Marvel project… which then got delayed several years. Now, in 2022, the world is finally ready to see… Morbius.
Morbius definitely raises a few questions. Like why were so many Spider-Man references in the trailers but then not in the movie? Why does bat DNA give him such sculpted abs? Is this the most bloodless vampire movie ever? What happened to that little girl? Why is his assistant/love interest a vampire now? Wasn’t Morbius going to take out Milo AND himself?

@@eb1638 It wasnt as bad as everyone says, Most Marvel fans are just so sensitized by the best MCU movies hat the second one isnt 100% its the worst thing ever. It had its flaws but over all a solid 7/10. It really just needed more time to flesh out the movie was to short and every scene was to quick. But Matt Smiths character saves what this movie had lmao. Id watch it one a discount day if ur theater has on (which i did) and have ur own opinion

I think the worst part is knowing they could have made a way better movie. With less money.

The biggest 'wtf' moment for me in Morbius was when Morbs needed a quick fix for blood. He got super lucky though as he was walking down the streets. A couple of paramedics were on scene at an apartment, and they were carrying blood with them (which I'm pretty sure paramedics would rarely ever just happen to have on them?) And even more fortunately, they enter the home while leaving the blood super conveniently outside on the front steps. They very easily could have continued carrying the cooler into the building with them, but they decided to leave packets of blood completely unattended like a Mark Rober glitter-bomb package.
It's also weird, because this is framed as a 'morally good' way for Morbs to get his fix, as he can just swipe the blood, not having to murder anyone. ....But I suspect that in taking that blood, he probably just killed whoever it was intended for.

the scene when he's talking to people had me on the edge of my seat, but then he said it.. "you won't like me when I'm morbin" and I literally fell off my chair along with several other movie goers, we all rose to our feet and gave a standing ovation. a truly unprecedented, incredible moment in film history.

If only there were some way for a doctor to remove like, just a little bit of someones blood, not enough to damage the person being drained, but enough for a decent drink, like a pint or so, it really sucks for Morbius nothing like that exists

That's because it wasn't pitched. Morbius improvised the iconic morbin' scene and they kept it in the movie.
I love that he used the EXACT dialog from the after credits scene and it sounds like something a producer would say lmao.
I cried while watching this movie, what a cinematic masterpiece, “It’s Morbin Time” is the single best line in all of cinematic history 💯

The accuracy in these meetings is stunning!
Apparently the studio added the Spider-Man references to the trailers without the director’s input, which is why they weren’t in the movie itself.
So very much false advertising.
@@AschaVovina It's always hard to know how much of the blame should actually be put on Sony rather than the individual director. Just like with WB and the DCU. In both cases there is obvious massive interference from the suits.

When flashpoint movie fails he will be worse. Ha first flash movie but batman in it Alright was kinda thinking this could be about the flash and his rouges, but batman always sells but him in it alright. Didn't think he did a bad job here or in Suicide Squad. He puts his all into his acting, he just has a unfortunate habit of signing onto films with shit writing and shit directing.
The pitch meeting was several hundred times better than the actual movie.
I loved it when Screenwriter Guy said "It's pitchin' time." and pitched all over the place. Truly one of the pitches that happened, I decided.

@@dansheffield4021 Pretty sure it's got one of the shittiest scripts in recent history.
Problem is: a lot of the problems are only easy to see when the movie's done. So, ironing out the flaws can go from just small corrections in editing to rewriting the script of the film (aka requiring so much reshooting and effects to be done all over again). It's a nice idea, but doesn't usually work in practice (and test screenings basically cover a lot of that, anyway)
I swear they don’t even give a shit if it’s bad, as long as it rakes in loads of at the box office on release then they’re happy.

I'm not sure what my favorite lines are from this series beyond the obvious. I think it's "I don't know" said with a smile. "Unclear!" is a close second. This is marvelous--the worse the movie, the better the pitch meetings!
I still can't believe that people let this movie bomb, then gaslit Jared Leto and the studio over the Internet into believing the movie was somehow wildly popular enough to re-release it, then let it bomb again. What an absolute madhouse Hollywood has become.
My friends and I left the movie saying “the Pitch Meeting for this one is gonna be awesome!” The Bat-douken was definitely the silliest part 🦇

1) Sick protagonist invents a thing
2) Tests it on himself
3) Becomes a superhero
4) Friend does the same thing
5) Becomes a super villain that the hero has to put down
6) Friend or love interest is being followed but somehow ends up alone with hero for a talk.
Are there any clichés that aren't in this thing or other clichés in this thing that I missed?
1. Medical scientist has an affliction.
2. Think bats don't have this problem
3. Thinks injecting a bat serum is a good idea.
4. It is not.
5. Brilliant doctor is transformed.
6. Doctor is now a vampire but a living blood drinker, not an undead one.
7. Doctor also gets super strength (which bats don't have), flying (which is much easier when you're bat sized) and radar and a drinking problem.
Is it the story of Morbius, created by Marvel in 1971?
Nope, Kirk Langstrom / Manbat, created by DC a year earlier.
7. PG-13 for broader appeal which does NOT suit the potential darkness of the material.

I actually want to see the porn version of this plot. That's what was missing for me in this movie. Not enough tits and ass to distract me from the horrible script.

The other thing that bugged me about vulture showing up was that he's also now ripped away from his family. Like obviously that's not how Dr Strange's spell is supposed to work, but beyond that he seems pretty chill for a man who no longer has any access to his wife or child being out of prison as he is
Especially when his previous iteration was so dedicated to his family, he chose a materially worse life in order to protect his family.

@@vysharra marvel should sue Sony for ruining characters which came from the original MCU. I have a bad feeling if Knull from venom is the next thanos event, then MCU has a whole will collapse due to low quality writing from Sony's side
Off topic but I felt the same way about sandman in No Way Home. I understand he wanted to go home, but I don’t recall him ever mentioning his daughter as the reason why he wants to go home. Unless I’m misremembering

I was one of the first people who ever saw the Morbius trailer, and it looked amazing, but then I constantly heard about it getting delayed and then after it came out I only heard people memeing about how bad it was. I have not seen the movie and I have no desire to because I don’t think I could handle my disappointment after the bar was set so incredibly high.
Morbius has become such a meme that when he said the characters name is Dr. Michael Morbius I just burst into laughter.

Lots of bats have pretty wimpy rear legs, mostly for hanging or climbing.
Vampire bats can actually run faster on ground than nearly any other bat. As bats go, they are pretty jacked.

One thing I've always said about the Pitch Meeting series is, between the catch-phrase lines that provide the structure of each episode, the humor is derived from 100% valid criticisms of individual movies and the industry as whole.
@VaderxG "our species" has many that has no interest in fine tuning our capacity to describe, articulate, and explain our world. They give us over produced dung because that what many want. Or the repetition of catchphrases.
Just keep in mind that almost every movie has a bunch of minor flaws that we simply choose to ignore in order to enjoy the story (known as suspension of disbelief). I love these pitch meetings, but I would be hesitant to consider them valid movie criticism. It's entertainment that highlights continuity errors and the like and display them in a biased negative light. This could probably be done to your favourite movie as well, no matter how great the acting or cinematography or editing, etc.

@@SatieGnossienne It depends. I mean, there's suspension of disbelief and downright bad writing or acting or something. Sometimes plotholes and continuity errors are too big to ignore. Between all the gags he definitely hits on some valid points. Doesn't mean you can't enjoy the movie of course.

@@awandererfromys1680 Oh, for sure. I didn't mean to imply that by suspending our disbelief we'll just accept any plot contrivance they throw at us. The good movies just know to limit them below a certain threshold so that it won't bother most of us (excluding the sort of people looking to nitpick :P).
True, he's covered a lot of movies at this point, so makes sense that someone's favourites have been given the pitch meeting treatment. I think my personal top movies are perhaps too "boring"/serious to make fun of, although I'm scared of making it sound like I'm challenging him.... :O
The way he said "those are synonyms" makes me think he felt proud of himself for knowing that and that the writers of Morbius seem to not.
Great episode. However, I'm a little disappointed that you didn't talk about Milo dancing by himself, as this was essential to the plot.
People say a lot of things are cringe these days, but that Vulture scene is the true definition of it.
The "oh REALLY?" reaction is SO consistent that I would totally believe he just reused the same shot in every video if it wasn't for the fact that the producer changes wardrobe every time

Michael Morbius is the Morbiest Morb who ever Morbed a Morbing Morb!!! Without a doubt, one of the characters in a movie. He absolutely Morbed every Morb that he was in. 10/10 Morbs.

He definitely was in this movie. And that helped the movie have the title Morbius. Without the title character the film could not have had a title, so it was definitely a solid writing decision to to have a character written in to make it a bigger box office draw.

I love how even Ryan wasn't able to touch on all the crazy/stupid things that happen in this movie.
My favorite part was when he said, "It's Morbin time." Then he did a backflip, snapped the bad guy's neck and saved the day.
I get that with supernatural-origin vampire characteristics, you just have to go with it, but if a vampire story is gonna be all scientific and base it on vampire bat DNA, then it makes no sense for the hybrid dude to need human blood exclusively. Vampire bats aren’t cannibals and they feed on all kinds of critters. He could just buy the drained off blood from a beef processing company.
Can they finally abandon using science themes for superpower origins, just say instead that the cause is magic. This way i don't have to cringe every time i hear some pseudoscientific explaination

@@rafradeki The scientific angle is essential for Morbius though, hence the title "The Living Vampire". He isn't literally a vampire. Mainly known as a Spider-Man villain he kinda has to be a scientist, since Spidey's stories most times revolve around what happens when science goes too far (Doc Ock, Lizard, Green Goblin)
