- Beef lovers, this one's for you! Intensely beefy and full of flavour, this dish looks super premium but it is so easy and quick to put together that you can easily have this on a weeknight! A classic Vietnamese dish that really highlights the flavour and texture of beef, so make sure you use a cut that is flavourful and tender. Rule of thumb for choosing the right cut for this is to choose whatever cut you like to have as a steak. Essentially, these are little steak cubes!
I'm using tomatoes to provide some colour and acidity, but you can do red or orange bell pepper as well. If you prefer the vegetables more cooked, cook the vegetables first, remove, and then add it back in when the steak it done.
Enjoy!!

Why don’t you put some salt?
I am litterally in ThaiLan rightnow after years of being a fan of your channel. And on this day you're making Vietnamese food haha
An old classic. In Cambodia, we had a modified version of Luc Lac. We put a fried egg on top of the rice. It takes the dish into another dimension. :)
"Che che che che che che cherry -tomato- Bomb!!" Couldn't resist.. Love the vid! 😍
Wow. Glad i found this channel. She is very entertaining with cooking. Sub’d
Can you show us how to make your pickled red onions?
You forgot the lime juice and S&P dipping sauce. It finishes the dish!
Burp
Your pronunciation is so on point that you sound like a Vietnamese!
Thai is also a tonal language, so it's not too difficult for Thai speakers to get it right when pronounce Vietnamese words, ;)
That wasn't too difficult to pronounce tbh
Thai and vietnamese sound very similar to me.
@cHemon, @Heleninzki: But *the tone variations in Vietnamese and Thai* are still *different between each other* ; it's like *overlapping two separate musical scales* and saying : "oh, all musicians must be good at all music!"
*Thai and Vietnamese speakers would never mistake each others' languages* , yet *Cantonese has elements that sound like both.*
@Kiet Pham: But what's more important, she indeed she it perfectly!
You pronouced Bò Lúc Lắc easily so naturally just like a Vietnamese 😍💗
When u said :" Bò lúc lắc", I thought " Oh, she's Vietnamese". After reading comments, I know i'm wrong. Your Vietnamese pronounciation make me wrong.Haha
I knew she wasn't Vietnamese from the start..
Who's making quarantine shaking beef? 🙋🏻♀️
Your accurate Vietnamese pronunciation of the dish makes me smile! Thank you for respecting our culture.
Yay a vietnamese dish! With perfect pronunciation
Pickled red onion is one of those super simple things you can have on hand to brighten anything. I just made a quick little single serve coke slaw for my husbands BBQ pulled pork sandwich and remembered I also had pickled red onions. Both those things really elevate a fatty sandwich filling like pulled pork.
Diggin' this recipe! Thanks so much! #LeGourmetTV
Is it a little salty? I have a sweet tongue, so just ask your experience in order to adjust amount of soy sauce. Maybe it is perfect that way, i wonder.
Delicious Vietnamese Beef Recipe, very delicious Pailin, you are definitely a Master Chef, you get a like from me! Keep up the good work girl, I can see why you have over 50 million views and almost 6000,000 subscribers, congratulations to you on that as well!!
Thank you!
Just found out about this recipe. So similar to Filipino the recipe for beef salpicao. Instead of fish sauce, we use Worcestershire sauce though. I think same purpose, because Worcestershire sauce (which comes from fermented anchovies) provides the Umami component. Please check it out and maybe even make a video of it!
OMG your Vietnamese pronunciation is on point!!!!
Wow! When it's approved by Vietnamese it must be quite a compliment;)
Yeah
You’re right!!!
I was also surprised because of her pronunciation
I was LITERALLY GOING TO SAY THIS! I always felt like Thai and Vietnamese had similar sounds so it makes sense since we have such tonal sounds in the language. I remember I went Thailand and I kept thinking they were speaking Vietnamese at times 🤣
she's not Vietnamese?
@@2Chenzzzz No. Just look at her name. Thai and vietnamese sound similar though at least to me.
I like my beef shaken not stirred
jame bonds referenced [Gosh Dang!!!!]
Usually the tomatoes are served raw, but the cooked cherry tomatoes sounds like it adds even more umami - I'll give it a try :)
This dish was absolutely amazing, the smell when the beef was cooking made us salivate, we couldn't wait to tuck in... the wait was worth it..the taste was so good it made you want more.. and more.. Many thanks 🙏 we're so looking forward to trying more of your recipes.
Your Vietnamese pronounciation is so good, Pai.
In Cambodia we have almost same dish call Loc Lac. Same recipe but we eat with rice and fried egg.
Fried egg makes everything better!
Yep! Khmer Loc Lac is good stuff. More sauce and more onions, but the beef always seems to be well done.
This is more like the cambodian version. Vietnamese people don't really use the lime pepper sauce (teuk mrech).
First had it in 1997 @ Slanted Door in San Francisco.
you can speak vietnamese?????????????????????????????????????? I'm a huge fan and i've been watching your vids and love them all
Just a few words - but she's REALLY good with languages :) Cheers! Adam
Omg yesterday i was looking for this recipe, and today here it is by the best RUclipsr thank you so much!!! :D
OMG ... I have been following you like forever but didn't know you can pronounce Vietnamese very well ... actually better than me lol. Thank you so much for sharing the world Vietnamese Shaken Beef! Bò Lúc Lắc is our family favorite because it touches our soul, is simple to make, and is super yummy to eat. We normally eat our shaken beef with steamed rice and cucumber tomato lettuce (or tomato water crest) with honey vinaigrette so our shaken beef usually loaded with sauce. When I was living in California, I only used Rib Eyes or Filet Mignon. But now I live in the Midwest of Wisconsin, even the Flat Iron Steak will taste out of this world for this dish. Shaken Beef is a French influence dish so we like to marinate it with minced shallots, minced garlic, and crackled black pepper. There is no need for the black soy sauce either because on the hot wok, the beef will be seared with beautiful color. As for us, we don't put one by one cube in, we just add that whole bowl (since your portion is not that much) into the hot wok along with oil and butter and start stirring like mad ;-) for a few minutes then follow that with shaken the wok.
Shaking beef with a side of jumping lime😄
One of my all time fav Vietnamese dishes! Thx for sharing!
I used to eat this alot when I was in Vietnam. Btw, your Vietnamese pronunciation was spot on!
Ohh yum love you easy simple recipes wheres the Thai chili pepper at too lols .
"Bò (beef) lúc lắc (shaking)" hahaha P'Pai said really Vietnamese tone, surprised!
The other recipe comes with a lot of onion, bell pepper (yellow, red and green) cut into cubes is also very popular in Saigon.
P'Pai, why should we have marinated with oyster sauce?
Love the way you cook
My mom cooked this with oyster sauce as well. Everything that is stir fried is good with oyster sauce.
Yup the most popular or probably all the bò lúc lắc in Saigon has onion, bell pepper and fries. In fact I think that is the best combo to eat with this beef tbh. Just beef, veggies, and fries. That's a perfect Saturday night for me.
And the marinate has oyster sauce in it because oyster sauce gives much more depth and complexity. Since most of Western refrain from using MSG (originally the Vietnamese recipe adds in teaspoons of MSG and what we would call "gia vị", I still don't know exactly what it is but we still use it a lot lol), adding oyster sauce brings out the sweetness in veggies and beef, also it colors the beef when cooked.
And yeah, oyster sauce is good with any kind of stir fry, obviously.
More tha one ways to cook bo luc lac bro.😀
Nice dish with shaking...Love the tender that you got there. we went to Oregon and there were one restaurant call bo luc lac there, it's crazy crowded but it was good.
When you said about marinade sauce, I know there will be fish sauce ☺️
I made it tonight. It was like OMG at the first bite. It is so easy and amazingly good. The red onion pickles is a must.
I love this lady. She always have good stuff.
i thought you were vietnamese for a second, with the way you pronounced the dish! your pronunciation is almost better than mine
😉 love that taehyung you got there
Actually, it's first called Bò "Xúc Xắc" (which means the Dice Cube)..Over time it's miss pronounced to "Lúc Lắc" (means Shaking). Either way it's a funny name and a super delicious dish lol
My girlfriend, who is NOT a meat eater has asked me to make this TWO NIGHT'S IN A ROW!!! DEEEEELISCIOUS!!!!
This looks really wonderful and totally delicious 😋
Hi Pailin
Do you have any dishes cook with pickle garlic. I went to a Thai restaurant in Toronto and my friend ordered a stirred fry dish with pork and pickle garlic. I had a bite and it was delish but do not know the name of the dish. It was really good, the pickle garlic has a very nice flavour and it was very different as well.
If you do, love to see it from you.
The best bo luc lac I’ve ever had was in San Francisco at 6th and Mission, a little restaurant called Miss Saigon. So good!!
Add a 1/2 tsp of cognac or VSOP and set it on fire wonderful flavors
I love your Viet "Bò lúc lắc"
Looks so good and tasty. And something my American friends would eat.
My favorite dish my mother in law makes! I’ve ordered this at restaurants but they are all so different . Sometimes they serve it with French fries. Another time it tasted like a Lao beef jerky
Pailin,
Love your recipes for the fast simple dinner. I think I’ll try this marinade on pork chops and grill them.
There should be no surprise that Pailin's pronunciation is perfect, because Thai has even more tones than Vietnamese! :)
Omg I love this recipe!!! I would like to see more Vietnamese recipes in the future!
This is one of my favourite things to eat, but I've never been able to make it as well as they make it in the restaurants. The fact that you used to cook it in a restaurant gives me hope. I'm going to try your way and see what happens.
Looks wonderful the way you do it. BTW I recently saw your new kitchen -- congratulations! It looks marvelous!
Awesome dish I tried it last night got home from work cut the beef (fillet steak) did the marinade and by the time I had a shower it was ready to cook love these fast recipes this is my new favourite dish
Oh looks so good!! Gonna make it this weekend. Thank you 😊
Add some habanero in the red onion pickle. Its a Mexican thing but might be a good kick to the dish... imo
I made this for my partner and I tonight served with mustard greens and wasabi mayonnaise on the side, thanks for another great video ❤️
Your videos make me happy...
Website www.PaisKitchen.com not recognised please?
Hi Richard - and sorry about that! For some reason the redirect to hot-thai-kitchen.com stopped working - fixed now and thanks for letting us know! Adam
Almost similar to salpicao
i was eating while listening to this and had to look up when you said bo luc lac, you pronounced it perfectly! when i hear thai sometimes i feel like it's similar to vietnamese
perfection! i love shaking beef!
My family used to go eat this all the time when I was a child. Brings back so many memories!
This dish is very popular in cambodia . we call this lok lak sach ko . sach ko mean beef .
I want some beer after watching this.
One of my favorite Vietnamese dishes to make because it’s so simple but iconic!
Hello, I’m one of your biggest fans! I’m 6’6 and weigh 300lbs!
Wow...amazing once u said " bo luc lac"...😍😍😍😍😍..that would be perfect for me to serve it with tomato fried rice 😄
U are more irresistable than the wok dish but i love beef too! hehe cucumbers would be great addition as well.
Fantastic. I'm happy that you do many recipes from different cultures. That's very delicious looking good recipe 👏😀
Hi Pai! Thanks for another great recipe! Your pronunciation is really good by the way. For the marinade, my mom taught me to add a little bit of "húng lìu", a flavoring powder (a mix of chinese cinnamon, sweet basil seeds, star anise, cloves, amomum tsao-ko, and some other spices), which is not easily found in other countries and can be substituted by Five Spice powder. It makes the dish very distinctive just by the smell :)
THanks for the suggestion!
My favorite Vietnamese dish, I used to live off this stuff in Vietnam
Thank you!!!
Really this is best
Oh god ! Your "bò lúc lắc" is pronounced so correctly. :'>
Love u Pai !
Wow, " bò lúc lắc ". Did she just say that? I'm amazed.
This looks really good! Would be something I would love to try! Lots of love from Sweden😊❤
Super cute smile!!! Thanks for the video!
Oh I make this for my dinner tonight.
Tried this recipe and I think 30 min is not enough time. Maybe an hour.
Simple yet dangerously delicious..
Great recipes! Thx for sharing.
You actually forgot a few slices of white onion and butter just right at the end
You deserve more subscribers 😌
I love bò lúc lắc
I always look forward to your videos Pai!
What did she say?? Pickled ONION??
But if i want well done beef i have to keep it more on fire? how long? coz i know that beef gonna be less soft but how to make it soft and tender but well done?
1-2 minutes longer should do it.
I thought "Lok Lak" is Cambodian dish... i had dish when i went in Cambodia
There are many similar dishes in Cambodia and Vietnam.
Omg I have the best shaken beef this weekend and will definitely be making this!
That would go well with a garlic yogurt dip 😄😄😄
Thank you! It looks easy but really delicious~~~
Yummy and great pronunciation!
You are so cute! This looks so good and easy! I shall try this soon!
Love this! So quick and easy! Plus you get to 'shake'!
This is also similar to a Peruvian dish called Lomo Saltado, except there are French fries in there :)
The Vietnamese also have a salty, steak stir-fry dish with tomatoes, *and with fries!*
Le Huy-Anh Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks for the info! 😀
PAILIN U R SO PERTY I willing TO MARY U LIKE HEART BEAT
Saved me $18 per person now. Thank you
What's the difference between BLACK and DARK soya sauce? Is the BLACK kind the sweet type that is called "kecap manis" in Asian countries?
Black is a specific type of soy sauce that is unique to Thailand, and it's in between dark and sweet soy sauce..
Pailin's Kitchen thank you for your response. Do u happen to know a name that is easily referable to in Asian supermarkets? I love this beef stir fry since 10 years ago but I wasn't into cooking back then. Now I'm into cooking I have come to understand that are a wide variety of different grades and types of sauces. Is the sauce you were referring to a variant of soya sauce? Again I thank you for your response.
I feel like I can smell all the deliciousness right from my office here 😋
