Just love how this dresser came out... I actually think your trunk dresser hack looks better than The Pottery one ..endless inspiration and possibilities 🥰👍
It was a lot of work getting the fabric on and painted and all the wood and tacks…but what an outcome!! Beautiful! I do like the aged look too! Great job and I love your videos. Sometimes I look at your before and think there’s no way this is going to look better and then you pull it off!
I actually am speechless! Your vision, and what you did to that plain dresser, was beyond remarkable. What an inspiration on how to enhance boring furniture. Thank you and well done!!!
Absolutely one of the greatest makeovers I have seen in my humble worthless opinion. As for you calling it a Pottery Barn piece? This piece makes PB furniture look like IKA furniture.
That was really cool! I have no idea about Pottery Barn and what their furniture looks like. But if you were going for a Steamer Trunk look you got it. A lot of work there but appreciated seeing all the steps.
W O W!! I LOVE it!! Great “dupe” of the PB dresser and the black glaze was exactly what yours needed. I thought it looked fantastic when you finished (for the first time), but the glaze gives it a richness. Excellent excellent job!💜💜💜
What a great job! I love it! I liked it before the black glaze, I probably would have stopped there. But you were right! The black glaze really kicked it up a notch. Pottery Barn? Who cares about Pottery Barn when you can do this???? Bravo!
JUST STUNNING-I just discovered your channel, delicious :) I am doing a refurb on old mica kitchen and I need this stimulation to cook up ideas. Blessing to you to have continued creativity-thank you-
The edges if the piece look a little too crisp to be old. You could use a piece of 2 x 4 held up against the sharp corners and hit the block with a hammer to round those out a little bit. It would look like it had been used and shipped around a lot. A few "fly specks" wouldn't hurt either. It is beautiful, and I think I am going to do this. I would think a half gallon of cheap carpenter's glue would work as well as the modge podge. Right? Thanks again, you are amazing.
Hi again Tom! Thank you for the coffees!!!! I keep forgetting to thank you in my video!!! Seems I am always under the gun to get them out and I don't think to add it until I am posting it on YT. You were so kind!!!! THANK YOU!!!
The wood color made such a difference. While my impulse was that something was missing, upon your darkening trim, I think you were correct the first time. Lovely in either case.
What a fantastic remake! You are very detailed. Your's is the best dupe I have seen in a long time. Your glazing did the trick. Keep up the god work. You got a sub and a thumbs up from me.
I think you have more than accomplished your goal with this piece. I'm glad that you decided to keep this for yourself after all that time investment. Don't be surprised, though, if you get requests for a piece like it. Great job, and I enjoyed watching your process. 🙂👍
Great idea and outcome. A really good re imagining whilst staying true to its ikeaness. Have a look at your mitre saw. It's cutting a whisker over 90 deg. If you cut a fraction under instead of over, mitres will meet at the tips and be easier to fill. There's a little screw you can adjust... Would love to know if the mod podge holds on the finished surface longer term I've never used the stuff myself.
Gosh, so creative. Inspiring. You’ve got fabulous skills. Great job editing too. (About that “fertility” table you refurbished, best the buyer doesn’t put it in the bedroom, unless…..!)
Thanks Nancy! I work hard at the editing. It is weird that no one ever mentions it!!! Glad at least one person appreciates the fact that I edit so much of the actual work so it is not boring. LOL!
I have watched a lot of your restorations, and like the way you walk us through every step of the way. Helping us to easily comprehend each process. Also, what is the name of the country artist who sang the second song.
Sorry I do not know. I got the music from epidemic sound. I had a problem with my computer and lost the layered file so I cannot go back to retrieve the name of it. Here is the link to their website: www.epidemicsound.com/
It turned out so nice. Yes, it looks like an extremely expensive piece! Being a mom of boys though, I cringed at a textured top! LOL I envision everything spilled on it that is sticky from candle wax to Kool-Aid.
Hi Christine! HELLO !!!! So nice to hear from you. I have never used it before and I was amazed how well it took the stain. I did not mention that in the video but it is now my favorite wood filler when I am going to stain it!
❤️Your video just popped up on my timeline so I watched it as I love upcycling. Great job. Looks just as good as the Pottery Barn original. So that’s a thumbs up and subscribe (with the ringing bell) from me. Looking forward to watching all your past videos and upcoming ones too.❤️
Real Nice!! I think that using the iron to pre -crease might have made the process in the corners ans edges a bit easier! Great look! Thanks for sharing :)
This is a real duplicate of your inspiration piece! You put on so much effort but the result is excellent! Beautiful! I think that you could have used upholstery nail pins of another color, instead of gold, maybe brass like ones, and you would have skipped the glassing part. Thank you so much for sharing all these tips and for being so explicative about the process of your work!
I agree that I should have used different tacks. I was not planning on putting the glaze. I also could have saved money by NOT getting brass corners. Again- I was not planning on painting them black.
hmmmm... did not think of that. The glue seemed to stick quite well though. I kept this for myself and I am looking forward to seeing how it holds up. I'd like to find a better glue than Mod Podge for adhering material to a piece of furniture.
So funny. I was sitting here in Australia watching you instead of cleaning the toilets like I should be and i saw timber mate. I was thinking oh is that an American product but no, it’s ours
I agree that black tacks would have been better. I certainly did not want to go back and pull them all out and replace them LOL!!! Thanks for watching.
The fabric was only $5 a yard and I used about 2 1/2 yards. Grass wall paper is super expensive. I have enough fabric left over to do another dresser. I saw one where they left the fabric the same color and painted the dresser tan. It looked really cool. Or.. perhaps put is on the drawers of a desk and paint the desk tan. So many possibilities!
The dresser was $200, corners $48 (ee gads!), fabric $20, upholstery tacks $23, Mod podge (I used a TON!) probably about $40, paint $15, wood $70 and drawer pulls $28. I think that is everything. $444 in total. I would NEVER have done this dresser with the intent of flipping it for a profit. I did this dresser to enter it in the Makers Challenge contest on Instagram AND because I personally wanted it for my home. I also wanted to show my viewers via this video some new ways to refinish and restyle furniture. I could have cut the cost a LOT a dresser I purchased on FBM, etc. In fact, I have one that would have worked (I paid $10 for it) but I wanted to use an IKEA dresser so anyone can dupe this. I also used the expensive mod podge on the drawers and personally I do not think I needed to. I could have just purchased it by the gallon and saved about 50% on the price of mod podge.
We hope this particular dresser was not on the IKEA recall list for dressers that were tipping over on small children. Another medium for applying almost any fabric, wallcovering or even art paper to flat surfaces is any of the clear polyacrylics. The overall effect can be varied by selection of the gloss level. The main or initial adhesive can also be almost any of the adhesives from Walmart and other big box stores. These adhesives should not be confused with Elmers (Borden) school glue that is resoluble with water. For those who do not wish to work on actual furniture and prefer smaller projects, some great finds in fabric store odd and ends bins is the use of tapestry roll ends applied in much the same manner as the video with one small tip. Ditch the chip brushes. They shed, they are full of loose bristles and dust when new or unwashed. The ferrule on these brushes rusts. If any iron oxide (rust) get into any of the coatings, it's forever. For more techniques similar to this application, see any book or books for the professional wall covering trades. For those who might be hesitant using single edge razor blades. There are holders for same and also razor devices with snap off blades. In the wall covering trade the single edge blades are best priced by the box and the pros use one edge then the other and the blades are not used for the same purpose again. Another sort of trick of the trade is to seal or "size" substrates for equal adhesion especially if the substrate is raw wood.
Ganz toll gemacht 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍💞
That was a lot of work and yes, I liked it even better when you “aged”it at the end. Great job!
Thank you!
Nice work 👏👍
Thanks ✌️
great work, i think this looks a lot better then the pottery barn dresser.
Absolutely awesome!! Love this piece 🖤🤎
Glad you like it!
Best Ikea hack EVER!

Thanks! We ended up putting it in my husbands office. He had not seen it and was pretty amazed when we brought it home. It was a LOT of work!

Yes, the second idea looks much better, and your inspiration always brings out the best in your creativity.
Thank you for your kind words!
Absolutely one of the greatest makeovers I have seen in my humble worthless opinion. As for you calling it a Pottery Barn piece? This piece makes PB furniture look like IKA furniture.
LOL! What a lovely compliment!
Wow! That looks like it would cost fortune! Amazing difference!
Right?! Thanks for watching!
That was really cool! I have no idea about Pottery Barn and what their furniture looks like. But if you were going for a Steamer Trunk look you got it. A lot of work there but appreciated seeing all the steps.
Thank you!
It looks better after the black covered up the tacks.
Big and beautiful.
Yes I agree. I wish I had used different tacks. Geeez I think I used 10-15 packages of tacks in all!!!
Nicely done! Enjoy your work.
Thanks for watching! I am glad you enjoy the videos- they are a lot of work but a labor of love!
W O W!! I LOVE it!! Great “dupe” of the PB dresser and the black glaze was exactly what yours needed. I thought it looked fantastic when you finished (for the first time), but the glaze gives it a richness. Excellent excellent job!💜💜💜

Antiques are my thing.. but this dresser is finominal .. I love it.. has that Harry Potter feel..
It does have a HP feel.. I had not thought of that before! Glad you liked it.
its great. I liked it before... even old trunks were new at some point. But it's so much nicer with the black glaze on the edges
I think that black glaze made it look more realistic. Thanks for watching.
love it really nice
Thank you! 😊

I will check my mitre- thanks for the tip. I will update you regarding the mod podge since I am keeping this dresser.

Could 3M spray adhesive have been used? Thank you for the uploads! Great work!
I don't know about whether 3M would work. It's an option I guess. Glad you liked it!

Your work is better than IKEA. I can see this being at Haverty's Furniture Store
Thanks Mona!
It would have helped if you had quickly sanded the cabinet so the glue stuck better

I love Timbermate!
You are very patient, I wonder how many hours you spend on this dresser...
hmmmm.... Let's see..... probably about 8 hours in total. I actually entered in the Makers Challenge contest on Instagram. So, fingers crossed!
Yeah the end was better. Ok if I would do it after seeing this I would consider using black tacks.
I agree that black tacks would have been better. I certainly did not want to go back and pull them all out and replace them LOL!!! Thanks for watching.
I think you did a terrific job. The black wash did the trick. I’ll give you my address so you can ship it to me!
LOL Cynthia!!! I am keeping this one for myself. It is really cool!
Wow
You could probably save a lot of work by using grass cloth wallpaper instead of fabric.
I am wondering if we couldnt do the fabric adhesive with poly matte clear coat?
Love this. Just curious about the total cost. 😍
The dresser was $200, corners $48 (ee gads!), fabric $20, upholstery tacks $23, Mod podge (I used a TON!) probably about $40, paint $15, wood $70 and drawer pulls $28. It could have used some distressing, scratches, dents, chipped surface. All in all it looks good.
We hope this particular dresser was not on the IKEA recall list for dressers that were tipping over on small children. I was wondering if the polyacrylics would be a better choice as an adhesive. Even crafters are moving away from mod podge for large items.
I have to look into poly acrylics. Thanks for the many tips! I very seldom use mod podge and know there has to be something better!
Dusting this thing will be a pain in the you know what. Intriguing look though
I use my hair dryer and blow the dirt off. Thanks for watching!
