Soooo...give me your thoughts. Did it work? When you're done here, check out the video on how to protect your food budget against rising inflation. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/w_AnVLWMsOM/видео.html.
What an accomplishment! The cupboard looks beautiful! makes me want to clean out mine too.
It’s funny how one has an A-ha moment! After being married for 42 years I realize that I wished I had thought of this sooner. Baking spices and flavorings should have be separated from the seasonings I use when making soups, casseroles and other main course dishes. So I did this and absolutely love it. I too have limited space and am utilizing tier, small turn table and have now added a plastic basket to house my new separation of my supplies!! 👍
I love your idea. Send me a picture. I'd like to see it. Just email me.
I too put my baking powder next to the vanilla extract, salt with pepper, etc, makes sense.
Love the final look. 😁 Kay is amazing…I adore you both! 💜
I have two adjustable width spice steps that are wonderful for making them fit any shelf or counter space, and a sliding two-stacked basket storage unit. My counters are a bit too high, but putting them on my counter helped me a ton! My family can see everything at a glace, and the items we'd typically store on the counter do well in the cabinets. The baskets hold the tiny items or bagged spices wonderfully without letting them fall all over the place. I would definitely encourage anyone who doesn't have enough cabinets, or ones located conveniently in their kitchen to consider moving a few counter items to the cabinets and move the spices to the counter.
I love how organized your shelves look and I love YOU too, Denise. Your soft spoken manner is so pleasant to listen to. Though I use all three shelves in my upper cabinets next to the refrigerator and stove, they aren't as wide as yours and they aren't adjustable. I would like to attach those little spice racks you have to my cabinet door. I think that would help a lot but I'm afraid to attach them for fear the screws would go all the way through to the outside. I love the lazy Susan with the tall sides that you used on the top shelf. You've given me some great ideas. Thank you many times over.
Hi Lois. I worried about the screws as well. I just measured the thickness of the door and length of screw and it all worked out.
All great ideas! I use most of those ideas, except the baskets. I do use a basket for refrigerator-seasonings ( like Asian) and for salad dressing bottles. My problem is keeping it neat! Guess it just needs a tidy up more frequently! Thanks, Denise for keeping us in line!
What a great idea for spices, I have clutter with mine and then I can't find anything!! Thank you Denise! God Bless!
I enjoy watching Kay at The Organized Soprano also. I have implemented the steps she detailed in that video and they have worked out very well for me. My favorite is designating a slightly hard to reach cupboard as a spot for my "back stock" i.e., the extras. That works out sooooo much better. My counter tops and cupboards have been very streamlined from information gleaned through Kay (The Organized Soprano), Dana K. White (A Slob Comes Clean), Dawn (The Minimal Mom) Cas (The Clutterbug) and you. Muchisimias gracias to you lovely creators for your help.
Hi Luz. I must say, I just love Kaye, the Organized Soprano. She is amazing and her tips are always spot on. My counter tops aren't too bad but they could use a little work. Any other Kaye tips you want to share?
I loved that book. Haven’t seen the movie…still deciding!
The book is amazing. The movie was good but the book! OMG
Thanks, Denise! I recently heard that the dollar tree has McCormick Spices…under their own label. I love The Organized Soprano too. She knows her stuff and I love her style.
Hi Cheryl, Thank you. I’ll check Dollar Tree . Isn’t Kaye amazing?
I read the book a while back. Thanks for info about the movie being out. Great video.
“Don’t use the size of the [cabinet] to pile more things on top of the [basket]. When the [basket] is full- STOP.”
Oh wow - I just love how you put that. And I put certain words in brackets, because my mind is already replacing them with others like room, closet, box, bin….. ✊🤨
Um yes! Did you see how in the one shot I had things piled on top of the basket leaning against the side of the cabinet. Not a good look. I'm decluttering or moving items so that is not a problem.
The lazy Susan is brilliant.
I do like the Lazy Susan idea. It works well for those tall bottles I have to stretch for. Any other Kaye tips you want to share?
I think they work. My spice cabinet is a little narrower than yours, therefore, I use the stairsteps in there and I use the lazy susans in my pantry. So yes, I know they work. Thanks for sharing and testing.
On the step shelves you should always put the tall stuff in the back and shorter stuff in the front.
I love it so much when you say “at sixes and sevens,” because I know just what you mean…….
Hahaha! Yes you do. I was watching something on ...somewhere...video? Audiobook? Can't remember but they said their house was at sixes and sevens. I was like, "Hurrah! Another sister..
I just bought some little containers to hold my most used seasoning and spices.
I have my herbs and spices in boxes in my cabinets. I can just pull out the small boxes when I need something. Separate boxes for baking spices, spicy seasonings, green herbs, flavorings, mixed seasonings, etc. Works for me and the containers don't topple over.
Lola I like the boxes idea but I don't have a lot of space. I am using baskets to put extras in the long term storage area. Any other Kaye tips you want to share?
Thanks so much for recommending the movie, WHERE THE CRAWDADS SING. I went and saw it and totally enjoyed it. I wii get the book as well. Please share the movies you liked in the future. Love your channel and all that you do.
Thanks for sharing 💕
I have tried several times to use the step organizers. I just don't like them. I am always knocking stuff off when reaching the middle or back step. I like putting all my spices and herbs in containers similar to the couple you used. I separated them by usage. I label the tops of the lids. I pull down the container and get what I need. It's usually a combination of spices from the same container. All my baking spices and flavoring and such are in my baking cabinet.
Teresa, I like you idea too. This way works out when I stay on top of it. Having my primary spices on the door really works. Any other Kaye tips you want to share?
I knock mine off too! But it is helpful. I try to keep them in abc order, but that goes the wayside quickly! Lol!
I need to organize my spice rack.
Hi Denise,
The spice cabinet organization look great! I utilize the turn tables for my bottles such as oil, syrup, vinegar etc.
-Laura
Hi Laura. I am really enjoying the Lazy Susan. Particularly the flat one. What other tips if Kaye’s did you like?
Your organization is wonderful Denise!
Hi Linda, it did turn out beautifully. I am so pleased. Now...to keep it like that! Any other Kaye tips you want to share?
Looks so good!! I have been Pretty happy with my spice area but there are a couple of tips that I want to change and use. Especially adding it to my routine for resorting regularly! Thanks so much! Love your videos!
Hi Debbi, yes...adding it to my monthly to do routine will definitely be a big help. Any other Kaye tips you want to share?
Yes!! I watched The Organized Soprano. Haven't implemented anything yet but plan on moving my junk drawer.
"utility" drawer 😉
Hahaha! Utility drawer. I’ve adopted that name for mine.
Yes. Move that utility drawer because that’s what it will become as you get more use out of it. What other tip stood out?
After years of trying different spice arrangements, I bought a 7-basket pantry organizer from Target and mounted it to the wall opposite the pantry. Each basket is 18" wide and 2 jars deep. I have the spices grouped by use, like broths, baking, dried herbs, etc. Now the only thing in the spice cabinet is extracts, which should be kept out of the light.
My spice cabinet is like Fibber McGee's closet. 😝 I need to just pare down spices to what I use regularly. But that is for another day...I'm working on my Art Studio.
👍👍👍
Hi Sheryl, thanks for stopping by. What was your favorite tip?
I definitely need to look my spices over, attempt to better organize. One thing I've done for some time is place certain things together, such as those used for baking, then those used for more savory cooking. Unfortunately my spices reside in a corner cabinet area. Always a bit of a problem.
I use a bin to get to things "around the corner". It has proven to be very helpful.
Terry, the suggestion Rachel made is a good one. Using a bin to put things in and tuck the bin in the corner. That should help you access them easier. Any other Kaye tips you want to share?
"Back & bottom," per Kaye. The around the corner bins are my infrequently used items.
Hi Denise, Do you make your bay leaf oil? Thanks for all your great videos.
Hi Sandy, no I don’t. I buy it on Amazon. It’s great to use. What other tips stood out to you.
@@homemakingwithdenise Thanks, Denise. I do just about everything you did in the video except I do over stuff my bins and shove too much in the cupboards.
I keep certain condiments in the refrigerator, using the top shelf of a cabinet doesn’t work for me. I am 5 ft 1 inch tall 🤣
I never remove labels until empty. Example if you loved a spice and then cant remember what brand it was to rebuy it
That’s a great tip. I don’t usually remove labels until empty as well. That bottle of paprika (half full bottle of red spice) was poured into that bottle after I used up whatever came in it. Any other tip stand out?
I'm sorry, but what kind of oil did you wipe down with?
Bay leaf oil
