    Hi Homemakers, I am just getting started with my Swedish Death Cleaning. I started with my cache of makeup and a few other things. I must say, it was more than a notion. When you are done here, I encourage you to check out my video on Stopped Prepping? It's Time to Get Back at It. Here's the link: ruclips.net/video/z-NVOPOQCyQ/видео.html. If you've seen that one then just do Thanksgiving Preps to Pick up Now. Here's the link for that one: ruclips.net/video/CdQMwR8TcK8/видео.html.

    My mom downsized and had everything in order when she passed. She had to help clear her parents' home and didn't want us to go through that. A blessing!

    Hi Denise, Wow! You are such an inspiration. I really need to do this!! I will make you laugh…I told our son that if anything happens to us, just sell the house furnished as is. LOL! Love, Mary❤️🤗❤️

    I've been doing this for about two years now, having no idea there was a new name for it. My parents are in their 90's, and we're in our 70's. Soon, I will be cleaning out my parents' home, and wanted to be ahead on ours. No plans to move, but wanted less for myself and children to deal with. Truly so important to take this step. Well done, Denise!

    I love that you made this video. I read the book and did the Swedish death cleaning. I really think it was a good idea especially because my hubby and I are childless. I sent a lot of our inherited items back to my sister so her kids can have a small amount, the other stuff went to our Buy Nothing local Facebook group. We just had to clean out my mother in law’s 3 story house after my father in law passed on. It was 60 years of stuff. It was so stressful. I don’t want to leave that responsibility to my family when we pass.

    I had the task of clearing my parents home in 2019 and then selling their home as well as mine. Here two years later in a new place I am now going through my own stuff. I learned after moving 800 miles I have way too much and if/when I move again I want to downsize as well.

    I can completely relate. My mum knew she had stage 4 cancer so of course none of us would have wanted her to waste valuable time decluttering etc. She wanted to do it, but couldn't bring herself to even think about it. She knew and said "sorry... you will have all this to go through". It was all ours (3 now grown up kids). Mum has been a single parent. Some sentimental items were packed away beautifully and heartbreaking to go through. We STILL 10 years on haven't completely cleared everything. A sibling got seriously ill and has needed years of treatment, my other sister decided to work abroad. I am clearing what I can do for my little ones in my house. Thanks for sharing

    You are doing a great job of letting things go! I must say this is a great idea; And I'm going to start de-cluttering My home as well in order to make life easier for my Kids just in case something happen to Me!

  • @LotzRemodeling
    @LotzRemodeling 2 года назад +7

    Denise - so smart to consider decluttering now while you have the time and can. Does make it easier on the kids, but especially if you want to down-size homes. My parents sold their house in the first weekend, but had to move in 3 weeks (sellers wanted to move in fast) and then they had to move 3000 sq ft of 'stuff' into a 1700 sq ft home. Was a nightmare. So good to do it as you go. Great concept. (Brenda, here, don't know if you remember me from 1.5 years ago from VRA member - we are in IL). I'm finally 'back' working on our own video uploads and production. Your channel has exploded. Congrats. Your hard work totally paid off. :)

      Hi Brenda, yes. Of course I remember you. Thank you so much for stopping by. The amount of stuff I have in this house after 20 plus hears here, just in this space, is crazy. This will be a continual process. How are you doing? Lfe has been a struggle in some areas for all of us. I saw you had another channel. I'll be sure to check it out.

      Memorabilia is hard to do. I am saving that for much later. Memorabilia is like going down a rabbit hole. You cn get caught up and just stay there. That has to be saved for it's own special day.

      someone gave me the advice of asking my self if i have looked at the item in the past year if i had not looked at it and just stored it in a box was it really the item that held the memory. asking this helped me get rid of a lot of things, some items i did take a photo of but that photo takes up space digitally rather than in my house so im good with that.

    I enjoy all of your videos. Especially your decluttering and routine videos.I just don't comment very often. Thank you for turning me onto the FlyLady system. It has built up my self esteem. I used to wear make up and nail polish. I am back at it again after around 33 yrs. I want to look nice for me. And my home deserves to be clean. (No matter how I'm feeling.)

    That is so funny...I was just thinking about this because I have lived here a long time. If somebody had to go through this house, they would not know where to begin. I think the odds are greater of keeping things when not overwhelmed and can look at the best items clearly.

    I have already downsized my husband and I. Right now we live in 320 square feet to be near his 93 year old mom. I really got busy with my own stuff after my mom died and it was a huge process. Someday we will do his moms and oh my she beats my mom in the keep everything dept. I’m not looking forward to it.

  • @LotzofClients
    @LotzofClients 2 года назад +1

    So what I struggle with is when I decide to do a deep decluttering, I tend to just toss what I want to get rid of. I struggle with the guilt that I am not taking to GoodWill or whatever. Is that bad to just toss? I know someone could use it, but I just don't have extra time to pack things up, load in the car, drive it to somewhere else. So I either get a Bagster and toss everything small, or I leave at our curb and we have in Illinois "garbage pickers" that come the night before garbage day and they take things left at the curb for free. BTW, I'm a VRA member and knew you from our second channel, Lotz Home & Office (this is Brenda from IL, don't know if you remember me from 1.5 years ago when I was more active on video production, I'm finally back in the saddle again.) Your channel has grown huge and I see you are selling aprons now - I will TOTALLY check it out.

      It can be overwhelming, I say stick to the curb idea when you can to help some of that stuff get a second life. In my town we have Freecycle and Buy Nothing groups. I take photos of what I have outside and list my address or have interested people ask for my address, and they come by and get it. "Curb alerts" we call them

    • @LotzofClients
      @LotzofClients 2 года назад

      @@francesrevetria8914 Yeah, I do try the 'curb' method with a FREE sign. I gave away tons of legos, a collector doll, 2 modern doll houses, etc etc. All scooped up in less than 6 hours. :)
