The answer is in your title. It's a "4 SLICE TOASTER". Why would expect anything else? With all do respect.

On the off chance that you had some old e-bike parts in the box, and did not hit the toaster, I can help with part of the problem. I have the exact toaster and had the same problem, which is that the
thin elements are not glowing orange evenly. This is because the wires are not evenly spaced out away from the gray material that they are mounted to. If they touch the gray mounting it will absorb the heat and the element will not glow and emit any infrared radiation. Get a long flat blade screwdriver about 1/4" wide, sharpen the end a bit and use it to get between the element and the
mounting, then turn it slightly to get the elements away from the mounting. You have to do this with each little loop of element. Start from the ends and get them all the same so that they all glow
evenly. You will have to test your work every few loops you fix. You will also have to give up a whole day of riding to do this. The farther from the mounting, the quicker they will glow. Worked for me until mine quit completely. I now have to hold the handle down if I want toast. Nothing else works. On the bright side, my fingers are getting stronger.

Breville is toast even though their corporate headquarters has a prestigious zip code

That is exactly what I needed to know. "The center elements do not get hot" as do most toasters. I will not be buying one.

Would hate to think what something like a stereo or television could do to his life. Could be downright ugly.

I toast my bread in a cast iron pan. With a little butter, and some cheese .... I make grilled cheese instead of toast.

I like how this comment progressed from toast into grilled cheese lol

Why would you want to make that perfectly fresh bread stale by toasting it to begin with. Unplug that Breville, make it unrestricted!

It might be like that for garlic bread. 🤷 I.D.K.
I've seen garlic bread that's soft in the middle and toasted around the edges.

Just worked out that way, usually that box would have been long gone but it was out of sight out of mind
