It's just that Tom Hanks has such a believable everyman quality to his performance that you completely understand why Woody did what he does. And Tim Allen being pompous but harmlessly deluded only added to that.
It was because of the Disney connection. If it was JUST Pixar they don't get those guys. Disney had distrubued The Santa Claus & was in talks to buy ABC (Home Improvement was running on ABC). It being an accident allows the audience to continue to root for Woody and Buzz to be friends because they know it wasn't deliberate.
I couldn’t believe that The Brave Little Toaster was originally meant to have 3D backgrounds. If only Disney had that chance. I wonder if the execs were eating their words when Toy Story became a hit.
Another Fun Fact: Paul Newman and Jim Carrey were the studio’s first choices for the roles of Woody and Buzz, but were deemed "too expensive" for the film’s budget. While I’ll FOREVER associate Woody with Tom Hanks and I’m glad Tim Allen voiced Buzz, I could weirdly see Jim Carrey voicing Buzz Lightyear. Plus I’d love to see how he’d play opposite Hanks as Woody!
At least Paul Newman did appear in a Pixar movie, Cars
Man, I've known Pixar's history for a long time, but it always amaze me. Brave people, having great ideas and having the guts to say the people in charge to f*ck off when necessary, resulting in an amazing movie... Thank you John Lassiter, thank you Ed Catcall, thank you Steve Jobs...
i really think its sweet how billy crystal got a second chance and eventually became the voice of one of the most beloved characters in fiction
Another great video. Good job👏
This was both fun and informative. I've yet to see a RUclipsr make a video this good regarding Toy Story's origin. Well done.
Wow, thanks!
I knew about a lot of this but this was a nice insight
Thanks for the amazing video ❤
Amazing script. Your conduction is unremarkable.
Congrats for the channel
Eventually I wanna see you do the infamous Circle 7 Animation version of Toy Story 3 which saw a defective Buzz and countless other Buzz toys being recalled and shipped back to the Taiwanese factory only to find out that the recalled Buzz toys are just being destroyed and replaced with newer ones
Jeffrey Katzenberg sure had a lot of confidence during the 90s, considering he was the man who would eventually think Quibi was a good, profitable idea
Toy Story Good Franchise!!!!!!!
That's a lot of people who rejected to be part of this movie only to change their tune once it became an industry-changing event.
Wow I never knew any of this this is great
I just got back from holiday and saw that I have two of your videos to catch up on. Hell yeah!
Welcome back!
If George Lucas hadn't gotten divorced, we wouldn't have Pixar.
Just a peak into an alternate universe. And so glad it was not a musical.
I had NO IDEA there was such a connection early on between Lucas, APPLE, Pixar AND Disney... dang, this was a great video!
Also the conversation between woody and buzz when andy is about to leave was longer but they cut it because they didnt think audiences would want the movie to be long
The fact the idea for toy story 2&3 existed before 1 is crazy
Also i love the old designs shown in the video, specially the venquilotrist and old woody designs
Woe now that was fascinating 😳 another brilliant video roll on next 🎥🍿 brilliant work
Thank you!
13:26 if only Disney used test audiences when they made The Acolyte, or Wish.
Woody is almost Like Lotso
Puppet Woody is a Evil Character
But not as Evil as Lotso
Puppet Woody is more like just a bully and a jerk
But a not a villain
An edgy Toy story sounds awesome and completely ruins my childhood with that one thought amazing video as always bnb
Haha thanks!
hehe coffee's ready boss-man lets start another banger and good morning big bro!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You already know!
Great video
Never knew that Steve Jobs was so much involved in the first computer animated movie too. I've been reluctant to say it to now, but yes, he was a visionary.
These videos are always a highlight for me when a new episode drops. Keep up the great work!!! What has been your favorite episode y’all have created?
Thanks! And that’s a great question. I don’t think I can give a proper answer as it’s like asking who’s my favorite kid? Haha
Great video per usual
What could have been Michael Eisner’s last business objective for Disney/Pixar leaving behind his excellent legacy as CEO
I love how Mattel only allowed Barbie in the movies after how much they made at the box office, even after they made a good point against it. Companies will do anything if it means more money.
EVERY week, I love this channel more!
This channel rules man
Fun fact: one of the few code names for the movie was ‘toyz in the hood’
Yeah that version of Toy Story would have bombed . I'm looking forward to your video on Star Trek Insurrection. Maybe some time you can do one on the original version of Star Trek 2.
This narrator reads every line of the video essay with the intonation of a question. Ear grating.
