- In this video you will learn how to cut and install sheathing OSB in a valley. Plywood install is what goes in the valley of a roof. How to build a small roof was the video from yesterday. So today I had to install the sheathing. Sheeting a roof is explained here.

Good job. I like seeing quality work. I've been a plumber for 50 years so I know good work when I see it. You know we plumbers need to communicate with the carpenters in order for the job to work out right. Plus a good plumber needs a good understanding of load bearing in order not to compromise the structure, something many people don't know. Growing up I wanted to be a carpenters, but I ended up not being one...

Great video man i'm currently a carpenter apprentice working on a roof system for a hotel with all types of valleys and hips, it can be very confusing trying to figure how to frame out the valley sleeper but you gave me clarity thanks man keep it up!

Great video I am a retired GC , Be careful I was blown off of a roof in 97 right at the ridge and have paid for it ever since. Stay safe and your work confirms my belief that there are still craftsman that take pride in their work. God bless.

Great work! Old timer here. You don’t see too many 60 year old production framers. Up and down takes its toll. Sounds nuts, but buy a manlift. Get a boom with 4x4 and gradeability. Money well spent. Just saw a guy do all the windows on a 2 story house all by himself and it’s fast.
Great stuff. Keep the videos coming. Wish such content was around 30 years ago when I was doing this shit. Well, I still do exactly this shit from time to time. Only thing available back in the day was library VHS tapes of Larry Haun hand nailing an entire house and an overpriced subscription to Fine Homebuilding paper magazine every other month. Now I design with SketchUp and have most of the details figured out beforehand. Thanks for sharing.

I work in commercial construction mostly building forms for concrete. Building a deck of a high rise in the wind, a sheet of 5/8ths MDO picked up off the bunk and flattened a carpenter to the framing. He got up, tossing the plywood aside and said, “I Quit!” The super shut the job down after that, but yeah. Working with sheets of ply in the wind is dangerous. Stay safe, Josh. We want to see more from you, not hear that you’ve been involved in a horrible accident. Scott from Kentucky Ballistics was almost killed providing content for his viewers. Scott is a super cool guy and I’m glad he’s ok… after a bunch of surgeries and a lot of time spent in the hospital. Don’t pull a Scott.

josh can you explain all the black lines on your osb do you put that on there?
The black lines are at different spacings, given different stud layouts. We simply would nail on the line that lines up with our stud out. I hope that helps!

what thickness is that sheathing? is 1/2" ok to use? Do most inspectors look for certain thickness?
Code is 7/16" or thicker, when I did my two car edition I use 9/16" thickness of OSB, just because it was my house. Don't forget to add metal plywood clips to put in between the trusses to prevent sagging.

I usually cut out a section for ventilation later on. So I can get back in there. But yes don’t want to leave it in there regardless.

No I don’t. The roof is intersecting another plywood roof so you don’t need it

OK iv never worked in the USA but see this all the time, can someone explain to me how you guys can do all this work without scaffolding around your buildings? And is it osha? Or something that's the USA safety body. Surely it must make jobs like facia boards a ball ache? And one slip, o fuck iv broken my fucking leg?? Obviously this isn't an attack on the workmanship, good on you for being able to do it this way. I know for a fact I couldnt.

Even being your own property is there no governing safety body that can enforce you to have some sort of edge protection?
@@christophercrowle9753 nope there is no safety person there on residential areas only in commercial work. If you don't feel safe being up on a roof hire a license contractor.
@Christopher Crowle we supposed to be tied off with /harness/lanyard/rope.
We also supposed to be standing on 18" scaffold while erecting roof/trusses.
But hut we say fuck itttttttt...until we get caught hahaha
