    This might be the best video on RUclips for intersecting the roof decking together with the chalk lines together. It’s not even super long in explanation but I’ll take it!

    A thousand thank you's. I am building my own home and this part had me a bit confused. I can easily see now how that works. It is actually understandable. Mark your angle on one, use the saw to cut the other angle. Very cool. I used the framers square to layout common rafters and it worked like a dream. Also good for stair risers.

    Excellent video. Helped me get the job done I'm sure in half the time. Only question I have is at time 5:09 to 5:11 you can see the corner that is created by the rafter tails. The 6:12 water drainage will hit the 8:12 rafter tails at a 90 degree angle. That is exactly how mine is. How do you frame/roof that corner or do you just put flashing on the side of the 8:12 truss tails where the 6:12 drainage will hit it?

      Not exactly sure what they’re called, I just got them from my local lumber yard, they call them truss spacers. They fold up and allow you to temporarily connect them at exactly 2’ without having to measure. You just leave them on there and sheet over them. Quite expensive but really speed things up!

    • @RathburnRanch
      @RathburnRanch  Год назад +1

      I’m not a carpenter but I believe the osb is more than adequate. If you remembered to do the math before hand, blocking underneath the osb at that intersection would be best practice. The rafters are supporting a vast majority of the weight so I wasn’t concerned with such a small roof. Cheers!

    • @BrianKrahmer
      @BrianKrahmer Год назад +1

      i think it depends upon how much load (snow, etc) will be put on the roof, and how long the ridge is. one end of the that ridge will carry 1/4 of the weight of the area of the assembly. if in doubt, just add some blocking between the trusses underneath the sheathing

      @rnRanch I've been stuck renting for 2 decades. We're in Arizona, and because of the clowns moving from California, real estate and rent has skyrocketed. We're moving to another state and I'm buying a lot and building a small home - about 1200 sqft. Kids are grown now. I have skills, but I don't know everything (obviously). So it's videos like this that will help me figure out the details - like how to join two rooves. It's going to be a ranch home, but I want to add a little character to the house by adding a front porch and foyer area in the front. So I need to join two roofs to do that.

    • @RathburnRanch

      I’m not an expert but personally I would never go flatter than a 3:12. I’d say if you can’t change the pitches, ice and water the entire bottom roof and 2 rows up the 10:12. Sorry to hear about the issues but congrats on the new purchase!

    Fast, fast and easy confusing
    No offense, you’re trying to impress rather then instruct. You know your stuff!

      The point of the video was for someone to reference when on the roof and forget a step. Sorry you were confused

    I get sick when people speed their video up at their most integral points.. makes me go elsewhere ( I have a mouse dude)

    YOU CAN ACTUALLY CUT THAT WHOLE ROOF WITHOUT MEASURING ANYTHING. ONLY DO YOUR LAYOUT. DO IT ALL THE TIME. TRICKS DEVELOPED 30 PLUS YEARS AGO. CUT IT ALL AT ONCE THEN ASSEMBLE..NO NAILS IN TOP WILL SAVE YOUR SAW BLADE

      Good to know! That was my first time building a roof like that so I wanted to be careful. I'm sure that can really speed things up though if you know the math. Thanks for the tip!

    All the info is great but I wasn't a fan of the choppy fast forwarding. I need a second to absorb what you're saying and, although I can rewatch the video, I would rather just have a second between points you're making to get it. Thanks for the video.

      Thanks and I understand that. I had the opposite problem when I was up on another roof. I made the video for guys who already knew the basics but forgot a certain detail. I tried to make it as concise and fast as possible for watching while on the roof lol. Thanks for the input though!

    Dude - I'm 60 seconds in and you're talking about everything that I can do and you're not showing me - what am I watching if you're not going to show me. You gotta do better than that. Don't tell me "oh, just go over there, do this, do that!" - Dang dude - teach me something here or just don't waste my time! I'm busy doing things - don't tell me to go watch 20 other vids. Stream line right here and make it happen!

      You spent longer typing that comment than I did framing the roof bud. 103,999 other people didn’t have a problem with it.

      @RathburnRanch You wasted his time by going to the trouble of making a video that even someone with basic roof framing knowledge could understand🤯 He'll be asking for his money back next😮 Oh wait, your videos are also free😵‍💫🤩

      The point of it was to make it fast for someone in the field trying to get a quick reminder not an educational video. Every video I end up watching in the field I end up maxing out the speed to get through the video so I figured Id skip all the bs and get to the point. Sorry it was too fast for you

      RUclips has a slowdown feature that will let you play videos at half speed. Sorry it was confusing for you
