    This brings back memories. When I was in Home Ec my Sophmore year, there was a guy in our class that made some basic shorts for himself, while the girls made more ambitious projects.
    He enjoyed his shorts so much, he got more fabrics and elastic and made like 7 more pairs of shorts. He still had lots of scraps left over so we showed him how to make scrunchies. I bet he made about 50 of them. Lol. He had so much fun. I still have a few of them

    You are hilarious! So much fun to watch and learn about new projects we can easily make at home. Lately, I’ve been learning to make scrunchies, ones with and without a zippered pocket. The one with the zipper took me about 4 hrs, I made several mistakes and that involved taking out seams a couple of times. While shopping at thrift stores, I stocked up on zippers…for pennies! It’s no loss cutting down a 7”, 10”, or even a 12” zipper when paying so little for them. I’m always trying to spend wisely! Thx for a wonderful video! ❤

Why don't you pull the elastic thru the tube at the same time as you turn the tube inside out and save yourself one step? Can't you pin the elastic to the wrong side of the fabric and pull it thru, or is my total lack of spatial perception showing up again? • @handmadeharriells
      @handmadeharriells  3 года назад

      I would just shorten the length of elastic, and maybe knock a few inches off the length of the fabric tube!
      You can wrap elastic around your hair for size (or measure an old hair band).
      The thing to remember about the fabric tube length is that you can always cut some length off if it’s too scrunchy once you insert your elastic-but you can’t add length back later! Better to stitch the tube up longer, and cut it down if you need to on your first scrunchie, then use that measurement going forward (because these things are like pringles, trust me)

I I think I picked it up in opera rehearsals long ago . It’s like pronouncing “voice” in Italian (“voce”, or voh-che...though “viso” is Italian for “face”.)
      That’s probably way more info than you wanted 🙃 Slippers are still on the list!

    YES! SCRUNCHIES!! We wavy/ curly girls never really gave them up because they're so perfect for our hurr. I can't pull off the headband scrunchie, but I had two adaptation ideas to share that I thing might help with the structure of it.
    First, I thought about sewing a channel along the flat edge for the headband to slip into. It would have to be wide enough to hug the headband and still stick straight up, but I thought it might help keep the scrunch arranged neatly.
    Second idea: why not do a long French seam on it? The added layers in the seam would provide structure to keep it standing up. It would be a pain to turn the tube outside-in then inside-out again... 🤔...I think that's right? ANYWAY, it might be worth the extra step.
    Love ya tons, Marcy! Your videos always brighten my day. Thank you so much for sharing your creative genius-ness with us!

      Doh!! I love the channel idea!! I wonder if it would lose some of the scrunch? *runs to pick up more headbands*
      I think the long French seam could work on wide (regular style) scrunchies, but yeah, pulling the tube through on smaller diameters would be a PITA. I also wonder if that seam would give it less loft when scrunched up 🧐

    I may just have to make some even though I’m not sure that 63 year olds should wear them. One question/ what is wax print fabric? I know I’m asking before I google. Lazy night

      Look up batik fabric and how it's made with a wax resist when dying the colors. I use batiks in quilting all the time.

    • @handmadeharriells
      @handmadeharriells  3 года назад

      Wax print is one of my favorite fabrics! It’s a cotton fabric that was originally intended to be a knockoff of batik, but became its own sought after fabric. As Debbie says, it’s similar in many ways!
      And, I’m positive you should wear whatever makes you HAPPY 😊

    At 21:10 on our right side of Marcy's head, a tiny point of light (almost like a spark) flies from her head and moves diagonally up and to the right of the screen. I think Marcy has a little spirit hanging around the house or with her. Actually, you either have one that keeps flying around, or a few more. I keeps seeing them. Some of them are just fluffs from the fabric and don't shine any real light. But there are others that do have an inner light.
    Did any one else notice them?

    • @Jen_S_Hassler1258

      Now that you pointed that out, I saw it, too! I never thought of floating dust mites as little spirits (or faries?) but now I'm disappointed in myself because I always believed that I'm all about the magical, mystical stuff, but apparently not. 🧚😳

    • @moonbear5929

      @@Jen_S_Hassler1258 Well, there are such things as floating dust and such that a camera may pick up. I try to be logical about such things. I dont believe that every "orb" I see is a spirit (or something paranormal). Sometimes it's dust, a flying bug, a reflection of some kind from a car. But some of the flying things here even though they were tiny, some of them did have their own inner light. Flying bugs will reflect light, usually at night in IR cameras, but this is broad day light in Marcy's house. A bug would not be reflecting light in the middle of the day and I'm sure she's not using an Infra Red camera. None of them looked like any sort of insect to me. I did see some fabric fluffs randomly floating on the air currents but they were fairly slow and had no inner light. Bugs often fly around erratically, and you can usually see their wings fluttering as they move. But some of these tiny lit orbs shot across the room as if they had a purpose, they knew where they were going and they were mostly straight lines with some speed.

      This little thread has me giddy. I wanna theorize!!! We’re lucky to have a wall of videos facing our workspace, with lots of indirect sunlight for most of the day. When I adjust my project towards the end of a video-when there’s plenty of scraps, and late afternoon sunlight coming through-the light from the windows catches all the fluff coming off of the project (of course, also dust, and we keep the windows open to the yard between takes). But it’s EVER so much more romantic to say that by the end of a project, through my ever increasing levels of joy at sewing, I have transformed any specks of fabric into light. I MEAN.
      (now, it would be interesting to see if I transformed any orbs in my mask videos 😅)
