Hi Angela. Thanks again for a great upload. Something, I am not clear on - why does the inner layer have to have a large seam of 5 eights of an inch/1.5cm? What would happen if the seams for both were the same? For example ½cm. Love and greetings from Pretoria, South Africa.
Hi Firdows, the fabric was cut the same length. The outer layer then was sewn with a French seam and that took up ⅝” in total. The inner fabric just has a plain seam. Both pieces need to be the same circumference when joined together. This tutorial is to show you how the entire scrunchie has a clean neat finish without any raw edges showing so sheer layer needs a French seam. You can cut length of the lining ¾’’ shorter if you just want to sew a ¼” seam. I kept the measurements of the fabric the same so easier for beginners. Sorry rambling a bit as it’s 1am here…. Excellent Tutorial! A few of my scrunchies have come out twisted & I can’t figure out what I’m doing wrong! I thought it might be the elastic not being inserted strait! Any ideas? Thanks
Fabric is twisted when the side edges are not matched up properly. Make sure you are accurate with your cutting and marking. Fabric layers should be equal when sewn together and lay flat and smooth. Make more notches on the sides so you can line up when sewing. Have fun!
