Dang I don’t play smash and have no reason why this was recommended to me, but you’ve got me convinced
Hankypanky has been reborn
does he go to med school
I hope he’s in accounting
who dat
Really Solid peach player who never leaves Ohio and has dubs over Plup and I think s2j?
@@thepengyknightan old peach player who has some insane wins but just can’t beat this one guy who (last I know) ranks 40
He’s the Protobanham of Melee. Great against the world, shitty against his own region.
that's because Proto's region is the strongest in the world
@@KingOblivThat was even before Japan was destroying everyone. He lost to people that would lose to the NA players he beat
The opposite of:
The guy too good to play his friends but can’t play in tournaments
“Great against the world, sh**ty in [their] own region” This probably won’t make sense if you haven’t watched TierZoo, but that sounds like humans in the African server compared to elsewhere.
nemo profeta in patria
Put him over plup to see if he’ll try samus again
Your pfp makes this comment sound like a royal demand rather than a simple suggestion. King, or Queen, Oshawatt lol
“He has the capability to beat the best players on any given day, if he feels like it.” -Prog
Bro's been consistently beating top 10 P+ players too. Dude literally only loses to like Rongunshu, Lunchables, Malachi, etc... Bro has gotten second at major P+ tournaments with Samus, an arguable bottom 5 character in that game.
Damn I had no idea Samus was so low tier in P+ :O
It's not so much that Samus is bad in PM - icemode is okay, and midair charges are nice... but she still has all her normal Meleeisms that make her mid tier here.
@Stupidiusity its debatable that shes bottom 5. Shes probably bottom 10 for me because she just has a lot of bad matchups in P+, including the normal melee ones. Shes very much usable like most P+ characters and is clearly shown to be able to be solo mained at a high level.
@@toolbar12423I'd like to see a more concerted effort on making a p+ tier list. Samus buffs greatly help where she's bad on the melee meta, but buffs on the higher tiers make her match ups very volatile. Basically if you can't get mids/heavy weights in the air and push them off stage, then you won't do well with Samus.
@vwtdi1579 its just really difficult due to the matchup spread and inconsistent use. Characters like Meta Knight, Ice Climbers, Donkey Kong, Lucario, and Wolf are all agreed to be good and possibly top 5, but will lose to random lower tier matchups or wont have any top 10 player representation. Having a definitive, majority agreed upon P+ tier list is just close to impossible.
My first ever tournament, he sat with me and played friendlies when no one else did. In bracket, he SD’d to one stock just to make it fun. I didn’t even know until years later who I was playing. Maybe 2016 or so in Grand Traverse
Epic.
Melee is sick
LMAOOOOOOOOO Similar story with a different dude. Ga native maybe around 2014-2015 went to first ever tournament and most other people were doing there thing i was on a tv grinding out link and a guy sits down and thoroughly trounces me. turned out to be fucking druggedfox. next week i decide to participate in the actual tournament and first game is against colbol. I have such shit luck but its crazy that some of these dudes been playing for so long
Proof that in any competition the GOATS are just the people that have the means to play and there could be some dude in Podunk, Mississippi who’s insanely nice on the sticks but is too rapped up in school or work or something.
Some of the nuance was lost in this short. Morsecode doesn't have any top 20 wins aside from Cody and Jmook. Morsecode is also ranked fourth in Michigan behind players that generally wouldn't be seen as top 20. On the other hand all of those players would have benefited from higher major attendance.
That is in large part due to slippi. It gives everyone access to high level melee practice.
This isn't proof of that at all. Morse is great but he's never even gotten top 8 at a major. What makes the GOATS who they are is their consistent dominance over a long time, not one off impressive wins a couple times a year.
It’s a function of Melee becoming increasingly easy to practice over the years
You can say that about any competitive thing. There could have been faster horses than secretariat, better basket ball players than MJ, better anyone’s at anything compared to the “best” at X thing who actually proved it, but not only does that lead to fruitless discussion, but it’s unlikely anyways. Knowledge builds off of itself and thus a community’s body of knowledge and competency is probably going to be greater than what any rag tag could do on their own. A samus causing 2 upsets and nothing else doesn’t really change that, I mean Morse was so lowly seeded at BH11 in the first place for a reason.
I clicked on this expecting hanky panky but got his essence reborn
It’s like one for all. It gets passed down and stronger everytime
Cody put him like top 20, he’s said he’s to consistent against the top 10 to be much lower
i mostly know morse for his pm matches but it's funny to see him like this in the melee scene.
Ranking players who play weird characters like this is hard because sometimes it just come down to matchups or personal skills. He might be really good at beating Fox mains for example, but might still struggle against Marth.
Consensus: He cannot afford to leave his home state.
Glass half full, he might end up in Area 51 by default
Spoilers, for anyone curious:
They put him at 18th.
Not sure why you said he had losses to 'almost anyone in Michigan' when he only has losses to KJH and Ossify (who are both also top 100 and he has wins over them too).
Probably because he has losses to those players and those players are from Michigan
@@turndownforwaltfun fact, michigan has more than 3 people in it
@@XovietYunion Got me there, I guess Cody did just move

@@quesadilla34 This is a fun debate of semantics but I apologize for misrepresenting the state in that case
Morsecode is a Michigan legend now. As someone who lives in Michigan, I respect it.
And now in 2024, he has another win over Cody and a 9th at GOML X
But it's 2024.
top level players CANNOT handle Morse's mind games, he just takes a completely different approach to the game. Also he funny :3
I'mma be blunt, in any given game, there are a LOT of casuals who can give the top pros a run for their money. They just aren't super interested in being 'pros' or in some other cases, don't have the TIME to practice to dial in the consistency needed to be a 'pro'. The 'pro' scene is a narrow slice of the playerbase and often consists of people with varying levels of access that others might not have. Literally, your high school having an esports club can be the difference between getting a shot at pro leagues and being relegated to pub stomper extraordinaire.
You actually see it fairly frequently in FPS games in particular, where good 'pro' players get roflstomped by a random pubbie when they are taken out of the regimented team environment and placed in the environment of chaos that is 2 teams of 4 randos who have never seen each other before that match, and aren't on comms. They are different skillsets. Sure, you get players who rule both environments, but you have far more who have that limited skillset that comes from not being able to do it as a full-time job. Or from it becoming a full-time job, and them not playing organically any more because of it.
You see it in fighting games too, where occasionally a REALLY good player who does well in competitions will run into some total rando unknown who bodies them 5-0 and then disappears into the ether.
Dude, there have always been a bunch of players like this. Now with online play, it just got a lot more obvious.
I remember when Armada was rising through the ranks very quickly. His brother told me a few players in Sweden were just as talented but never traveled anywhere.
The myth of CalleW. A young Falco main who regularly beat him, while Armada was a nightmare for any other Falco.
Shoutout to Carl Magnus Wall (CalleW)
Note: for future reference, it's "résumé", not "resumé"
I played Morse code in ult back in the day at a small west michigan local.
With how complex you explained how slope detecfion works on the player character, i'mnow interested how Sega managed to make curvy slopes works on their 2D Sonic games
Very much looking forward to what him and Wevans can do in the future 🙌🏼
Nah the funniest is still Glutonny having been the best Dark Pit when he actually never played Dark Pit because a referee got it wrong.
He just beat Axe too lol
Used to go eat with him and a bunch of players after locals, he would go to a bunch of ult tournaments too. Really nice guy 👍
>beats top players
>leaves
>refuses to elaborate
Feels like he's the bombsoldier of samus. Bombsoldier beat Captain Jack when Jack was #1 or #2 in Japan, but Bombsoldier's local region knew how to beat his Falco
He's a p+ player
Would love to see another top tier Samus. I miss Duck
Plup's glory days as a Sammy main as well.
yeah for a while it was just duck and hugs holding samus down.
Ayy that Samus intro render looks familiar 😂
UPDATE - he got ranked 18th
Much like Plup was a bracket demon for Leffen due to the matchup now so is MorseCode as bracket demon for Cody 😂
Either a lesser opponent doesn't excite him enough to bring out his full potential, or the state of Michigan is secretly hiding the scariest Melee players in the world
- Show up
- Annihilate the best players
- Have no existence outside of that
Simple answer, Michigan's melee world is just next level
after 20+ years a grappler has finally been added to stf
It's basically rock, paper and scissors but with ranks.
I see it as like, he can beat the top 10, but can't beat anyone from his place because of their playstyle, but because of their playstyle, those he beat can also beat them, despite being unable to beat him. So it just loops.
Morse is Michigan’s response to HankyPanky
Samus main in Melee?
I see you're a man of culture as well...
I dream of a day Samus wins a supermajor but the shiek matchup is like 99-1 shieks favour and the puff matchup is also really tough. She has the tools to take matches from all the other top tiers high tiers and mid tiers, but those two matchups are so bad you need a pocket high-top tier.
So basically "localized legend"
Is this that guy that Levy beat in Titled Tuesday?
he's also kinda like westballz, either he plays godlike, or he's a circus
I'd say that this is enough data to conclude that Michigan was founded over a reservoir of Melee jank energy.
Crazy what a 9-5 player can accomplish in their spare time
**Shows up**
**Kicks top players asses**
**Leaves**
**Doesn't elaborate**
What im hearing is, he's really good, but top players havent fought him enough to understand how to fight him yet. So his own region gets better results against him than some of the best ranked players in the game, just because they are familiar with his habits.
Dude's just playing tourneys while visiting his friends in Livonia and Flint
The elder code. Hes an ultra homie too
_Haloid_ footage used in 2024. The classics are being remembered.
Why does nearly every short have “let me explain” in it?
Qualifying events for ranks. you knew the answer but didnt want to say it because rankers always say the more games and tournaments the more true the rank.
Haloid SPOTTED!
He's a literal paradox.
"and thats why" fakeout loops are annoying
People in Michigan are just built different I guess.
Oh hey that's my video at 0:20
I started playing a month ago, instantly choosed Samus as a Main ❤ I don't regret it.
Did you just... made a loop?
He's made a bunch already :)
I haven't seen a RUclips short without a loop in quite a long time
Dont forget most importantly Melee is his secondary game 😂 homie is actually a PM player 💪🏾
Schrodinger's Wavedasher
Home court advantage is real
This kid is going places?!
It really shouldnt be surprising that a guy who most people havent heard of doesnt have the means to travel for tournaments all the time and most of his results are from tournaments in his region. Were talking about smash.
Went to high school with him, let’s go Josh!
Does the smash community not use known methods for this like glicko? He's just gonna have a big uncertainty value...
I haven't got Street Fighter Six for the PlayStation 5, Xbox S|X and Personal Computers yet, but i will buy this so the humans can see how good i am before i get it, Thanks Brian underscore F!
Morsecode is that poor friend who has potential, but you know he'll never leave town.
‘One of the best Samus players in the Midwest’ ‘And also possibly the best Samus player in the world right now’
So he has equals in the Midwest but at the world at large he doesn’t?
He did it again!
Bro has the hanky panky effect
Morse loses to two Michigan top 100 players:
"He loses to anyone from Michigan."
Gets called out in the comments:
"Why are you guys taking a RUclips short so seriously." 🤡
Because it's disingenuous nonsense, and we get irritated at people who fill our recommeneded bar with misinformation.
Some people are just good. Plays at home. But has too much of a life to travel to tournaments.
I respect the hell outta that. He's goated but isn't in it for the glory, just wsnts to have a fun time.
This is the most Michigan thing I've ever seen.
All you had to say was michigan for me to root for him
As a MI player, I can attest. We're built different
dudes surprised that people can't travel whenever they want for a tournament, dude we're fucking broke
By the transitive property, every Melee player in Michigan can beat cody schwab
MICHIGAN MENTIONED LET'S GOOOOOO
Schrodinger's skill level
Yeah let's have him play everyone on the list and just see how he does in a single set against each of those players right?..….….
Melee rankings are goofy...
Kinda proves how random and inconsistent samus can be. If you play someone who’s willing to be patient, you’ll probably lose, get someone overextended, you’ll cc downsmash them to pieces while taking a four minutes to bomb jump back to stage
Have you seen Morse play? He's the definition of weird.
Michigan's final boss
Nice loop
Woah its like no one lives to be a prof smash players and can go to every single con to play with other players, wow
Ranking players is insanely stupid
He's the best in the world he just doesn't wanna reveal his true power. He's a humble god
By inui logic, all of michigan has beat cody
Are Raycon earbuds ACTUALLY good? I need to replace my Pixel Buds.
I like them! I’ve been using them pretty much exclusively since getting the deal but I wouldn’t say they’re extraordinarily higher quality than other brands if you want my honest review!
@@turndownforwalt I appreciate it! If I end up getting them I'll use your code.
Is he the new Duck?
Someday I will be up there! I am gonna grind on Super Smash Bros Melee online and won't give up until I make it to the top!
Yeah… I think it’s not popular enough of a competition to really know the true rankings of competitors generally speaking nor to have the potential best of the best involved in competition.
Like most major league sports in the early days this isn’t wide spread enough. Take, idk, American football for example. The pay given to the players to play in the NFL in its early days was to the extent that the players all had “real jobs” cause football was basically just a fun hobby that paid for itself and a little extra cash after that (at a pro level).
Later on after the merger and during the Super Bowl era you COULD make enough money in the league to be able to focus solely on playing a children’s game for a living… buuuuut, only if you were really really good at it.
Then it grew in popularity enough that pretty much every school in the nation has it as a team sport (generating even more interest) and the lowest paid players in this meaningless competition are being paid absurd sums of money leaving them very well off and there are various ways to get paid enough to make a living off this silly competition that’s ultimately meaningless.
Smash isnt there yet and I doubt Melee is ever going to get there (mainly due to Nintendo). But fighting games in general seem to be at that second point (especially games like SF) where you don’t have to be the absolute best to make a living, the top of the pile are making absurd amounts, and people who’re in maybe in the top 80% of players don’t need to have another source of income and can make a living from what’s ultimately a silly waste of time.
In the early days of the MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL those weren’t the best players and often times colleges had the best players. Cause they had the free time to spend playing sports and didn’t have to worry about things like paying rent and going to work. So the better players fucked off after they graduated college to go and make money.
The only way Melee is ever going to have the best of the best is if Nintendo stops being hyper douchey and starts supporting the game as a competition. Like what Capcom does for Street Fighter. Aaaaaaaaaaand that’s never going to happen, unfortunately, so you’re going to keep having anomalies like this where it’s someone who COULD be significantly better than what you’ve seen but you’ll probably never know cause there’s too little reward and too much risk for them to care about it over something else like chilling in MI and working on whatever else it is they have going on in life.
Yeah but Plup exists.
I can't explain this to anyone. But I hope they win too lol
