- The 2024 Emilia Romagna Grand Prix was a bit of a slow burner, but it paid off in the end! There was a lot more than the final ten laps to delve into this weekend though, so here are all my, less serious thoughts...

Ah Italy, the place where you can play the french car bingo game with out being run over
TV Director showing the "battle" for 17th rather than Stroll and Perez overtaking cars to progress up the field was such a ridiculous decision.
True, those were probably the only legit overtakes in the race apart from Tsunoda making a few moves, and bwoah, it's either Piastri tailing Sainz, Magnussen trailing Zhou or Norris trailing Max.
I thought the commentators were going to explode from frustration, they rarely criticise it so openly

The hilarious thing is Max literally sees F1 as a side quest. First thing in the morning he was doing the iRacing 24hrs of Nurburgring 💀💀
He was doing it last night after qualifying too.
And it’s no easy race. I did it and felt like death afterwards so who knows how he can win an f1 race after lol
Isn't that what he said in an interview once? F1 is nice as long as it lasts but isn't life. There is still sim racing and his sim racing team.

Sad Lando wasn't able to have a direct fight with Max in the closing laps. But if Mclaren are going to be finishing that close to Red Bull consistently, a fight for the lead is going to happen at some point (hopefully).
McLaren will win at least three more races. It has been written.

I like the usage of “Lard” and “Poo” for the Indy car reviews.
I think we all knew Max was going to win, but what I don't think any of us expected was that he would get the win while being under some actual pressure. Seems Lando is starting to restore a small bit of hope that there's at least one other car and driver on the whole grid that can remotely challenge Max Vanderstoppen.
In theory, if he could apply pressure early enough, it could also open the door for a Ferrari as well if they kill their tires fighting each other.

I’m pretty sure somewhere in the great beyond, Senna’s eye twitched and he began to wonder why he suddenly got very angry for some reason.
Literally a third through this race and I questioned

One thing Imola highlights is how broken the current points system is. In theory McLaren should of gotten more points than Red Bull this race due to Perez's disastrous weekend, finishing 2nd and 4th should get you more points collectively overall than 1st and 8th... however in reality they got around the same number points (Red Bull 29, McLaren 30).
First place gives too many points, compared to the other places, what's even the point of having 2 cars when 1 car can seemingly carry a team to the Constructors Championship. Hypothetically if Perez failed to score any more points this season, and Max won all the remaining races, Red Bull would probably win the Constructors. That doesn't sound right, and that doesn't feel right. The Constructors title should reward the most consistently great team with both cars, not reward a team that focuses all their time, development and upgrades around 1 driver to the active detriment of the other.

That Toleman Ghasly got to drive at Silverstone looked more balanced and competitive than the 2024 Alpine. Yikes, where did Alpine go so wrong. As for why Ghasly drove it?
Toleman > Benetton > Renault > Lotus > Renault > Alpine
Also Seb got to drive the MP4/8 pre race as well and all I thought when I saw that was finally, a car that makes actual noise and sounds punchy and raw, not quiet and like the 2024 cars. C'mon FIA, give us that early 90s sound again with the rumored switch to V8s

The TV direction was so infuriating during the race. Every time there was an exciting moment on the front, they decided that : "Hmm lets watch Zhou trying to overtake Logan Sargent at 18th." Or when Norris chased Verstappen, he is on a knifes edge, but we won't show that, we're instead showing Zack Brown's nose hairs for a lap straight.

I think those last 10 laps were Max taking it to the NEXT...level! The Psy Ops Game! In an effeort to get the fans to stop complaining about Max winning every weekend? Sandbag the last ten laps, so we think it was a real close nail bighter, when in fact Max had all the performance and then some to keep Lando or anyone else for that matter from ever getting close enough to even try a long-shot move. Psy Ops! 😉
yeah.. the highlight of the weekend is when Will gets his upload done so we can all have a belly laugh.

It’s kind of sad, since Imola is such a historic track, but the circuit is just not suited for F1 anymore.
Would this circuit not be in Italy and instead somewhere in Arabia, everyone would shout for it to be removed.
Hopefully they let the contract run out in 2025 and replace it with Sepang or Istanbul…

I mean, wasnt Max dealing with Battery issues during those finals 10-20 laps? Something, other than having to stay inside the white lines, was slowing him down dramatically. He had a 5 second lead practically evaporate.

I always watch the race highlights on a catch up service in the evening. I saw this come up and thought maybe Perez took advantage of a safety car or did some genuinely good racing...just realised it was a joke

One thing lost in your review was Alonso being so far back the announcers thought he was done for the day when he pulled into the pits with a few laps left. He then came back out on softs thinking he had the pace to snag fastest lap. He didn't.

The worst part was seeing media heavily critcizing Max and someone else for not paying tribute to Senna when they ran out of the special shirts they made for the event so there was nothing those two could do.

@@nickvangeel Reserve drivers filled in for De Vries and others due to a clash between FE and WEC as well as one of the drivers breaking their hand, and 3 drivers had better results over the weekend than De Vries had in the previous 8 rounds.
