Very interesting results. I'd love to have one of these in my collection, as well as a BGS model. Loved the video Mike. I'll be interested to see what's next
the steel looks like he's probably of a lower hardness than typical eastern-block ones, as you can see on the 45acp failure for exemple, you can see that the steel plug that was tore from the shell didn't completely broke off in a glass-like faction, but instead bent out of the way when we take into account that the steel is thinner than on some other helmets, it also make sense (since hard but brittle steels are more efficient if you have a high nominal thickness + high slope, while it is counter productive if you have a low nominal thickness and don't have a lot of slope)
It would be interesting to do a chemical analysis of the steel to find out the carbon and possibly nickel content of the alloy. Have you considered using a cantaloup as a stand in for a head?
@@MikeB128Hey, can I get you a proper reproduction of a medieval helmet called a "Black Sallet" made out of 1.5 mm or 2 mm mild steel cold forged to test out? Since it's going to be fully forged coldly it should be a bit stronger than the repo helmets you tested. Sense in theory it should be I like to see how actually does.
Was going to comment last video and request this but didn’t know if you’d be willing! Great! Can’t wait to see. Already think I know what’s gonna happen but it’ll be cool nonetheless.
I really wanna see how a talker helmet holds up to the test, only issue is you dont have a Japanese navy vessel laying around lol, but i could imagine you and devin using a civil war cannon that you just have
Because I'm a moron who converted a PASGT to a LWH configuration without knowing proper chinstrap placement. Devin has already razzed the hell out of me for it lol.
Man, considering how poorly it fairs against even .380 I doubt it would even work well against fragments. The Spanish government didn't even care about its own troops but that's fascists for you.
@MikeB128Steel helmets? i know modern steel helmets can buy that's not surprising. have you seen the German police helmet's that can stop an steel core Ak 7.62 at 40 meter ish.
@MikeB128must have been the test standard then haha. the early version of the helmet had the Extra WW1 looking plate. but they have gotten "rid" of it in the newer version.
I see Mike, I see ballistic helmet test, I click.

Glad to see the ballistic test videos again. These are always fun to watch.
These are fascinating as all get out.
Did not expect that. The steel is thin and alot of the times warped from the examples I've seen but penetrated by 380 is insane.

I have a Spanish Modelo z stalhelm
This was the first surplus helmet I ever bought, way back in the mid to late '90s, still have it along with many other surplus helmets.

What a treat! Mike is spoiling us this week
Perhaps. Glad you like it!

In all your tests of steel ww2 and ww2 repro helmets, which one so far faired the best against the ammo used ?
You'll have to go through the playlist and see :)
Sweeeet video bro, that ricochet sound is crazy lol
Cool stuff as always! 😎✌🏻

I hope in future you can do Ballistic Test for Chinese GK80 helmet. Thanks!
In time. These are very pricey to make, if you became a Patreon Supporter, it would help expedite those sorts of things :)
Mike if you want a Spanish Marte I could get you one!
Would be cool, but I'm trying to downsize and pinch pennies right now :(
@@MikeB128 no problem, let me know whenever and I'll find you one!
Would be cool if you could find a rough-condition one to use in a ballistic test....
The Kryptech IOTV is crazy
Just curious, why do you have the LWH chinstrap in that way? More comfortable compared to using the suspension bolts?
Because I'm a moron who converted a PASGT to a LWH configuration without knowing proper chinstrap placement. Devin has already razzed the hell out of me for it lol.
Why would you do that to a half decent helmet?
Why would you bitch about it?
@@MikeB128 it’s just those helmets are quite expensive on uk eBay.

Luckily he's not in the UK...
@zeppelin5000 You beat me to it lol.
Don't destroy this nice helmet.......😌😪😪😪😪
Already done. Education often comes at the cost of destroying one of a MILLION items for the sake of research....... Relax....

A .380 moves at about 1100 FPS. Fragments from Artillery move at about 30,000 FPS, so yes, I agree it wouldn't do well against fragments.
only 2 helmets have passed the takerov
No, more than that have.

No I haven't, and yes, most Eastern Bloc helmets defeated the Tokarev. Go through my playlist and check it out.
