I've stuck with the Tango Down grip. It fills up my hand good and feels comfortable for me. Added some hockey tape for extra grip/ comfort. Also the added storage space in the grip for spare bolt parts, screws, Allen keys, etc.
After trying a few popular ones on the market I went back to a Magpul K2. Meridian Defense has a collaboration with Hogue for a new Ak pistol grip. It’s basically the Hogue grip without the finger grooves.
Great video 👍 I love the US palm and Tango Down grips. I have some old school stuff Norinco NHM91,Romy G, Polish circle 11 build that is original everything, and a Galil grip on a Russian combloc mutt build with wire folder. I also have an East German furniture on a WUM-1 first year import I love the German stuff. The AK is just a blank tactical canvas of your wants and desires nowadays almost like the AR platform.
Stark AK grip is the best i have ever found hands down. It has an extension over the trigger guard, so the rifle is easy to support with one hand without it digging into your hand while doing reloads or sling manipulations.
I’ve tended to go with the US Palms/Tango Down AK grips for most of my AK’s. Fits my hand well and has a reasonable level of stippling without trying to tear my hand up. Did end up sticking with the Hogue grip on my KS-12 though, because mag dumping 00 buckshot does cause enough recoil to make me appreciate having some give to soften the recoil to my hand.
Solid video and good info as always. Thank you. I did like the US Palm/Tango Down for a while but I found the Izhmash/Molot style works better for me. The hump in the back just doesn't mesh well with my hand (it's a bit smaller on the pinky side than I like - it makes my hand tired much quicker when doing lots of drills or shooting all day. was never a huge fan of the Magpul - it's kind of blah other than it being an upgrade from the standard crappy thin grips. I'm not a fan of rubberized either. I like the polymer - and if you always run gloves like I do, I don't mind a super aggressive stippling job to make it real secure.
Oh and if the Izhmash/Molot Russian grips are insanely priced - which is a real possibility these days... The TDI seems to be a fairly close facsimile and priced right - but I haven't used that one personally so I can't 100% recommend it yet.
Good info here. Personally I’ve found if I don’t notice the pistol grip when shooting it’s a good grip. The one that gives my hands the least complaints is the magpul K2. But depending on hand size and preference it might not work for everyone.
I wish everyone would stop pretending that magpul didnt basically nail polymer furniture for the ak. Grip: great ergos, good storage. Handguard: ok ergo, good heat protection, easy to mount a light. Fixed stock: ergo, good sling options, good storage. If you aren't running a LAM and are more concerned with function over form, then magpul is the easy button.
@Feldmutze yea man. Decent stuff but when you factor in value, it really elevates it. I think the looks hold it back. Love your content though bro, keep up the good work.
Thanks! The Kamysh jacket is an ANA P51 that I bought from Grey Shop several years ago. I checked Grey Shop just now and unfortunately they don't sell it anymore, but it does rarely pop up from time to time on eBay and the like, and hopefully they'll relist it on Grey Shop eventually too.
@@johndel1971able It thins out at the top of the grip near the receiver. So, my hand is always against the bottom of the bare receiver. Also, the rubber is harder than every rubberized grip I've used.
I have owned a bunch of different grips that I got my ak rifles. My current fav is the Polish Beryl which has a great angle to it that makes actuating a Armacon, WBP, Krebs safety lever really easy. I also have a Zenitco RK-3, I like it but I think it would benefit from being less blocky, its not as ergonomic.
Oh cool, I hadn't looked into the Beryl grips before but those do look like nice grips. Somewhat reminiscent of the Custom Arms grip except with less angle, and the Custom Arms grip could definitely have used a bit less angle.
I went from wrapping a basic grip with hockey tape, to a ZenitCo RK-3 and liked that grip, but I got it in Jungle green and it didn't really fit with my build. I've since gone to the Magpul K-2 in plum just to have the battery storage, and it is still somewhat alpha-build correct
Does being Soviet accurate matter for you? If not, my favorite grip is the Stark Equipment grip, which has an excellent palm swell, thumb rest, and a rounded shelf to protect your middle finger from rubbing against the trigger guard. Driven Arms Co also has a Shadow Crossover AK grip which looks very promising.
I don't specifically seek out Soviet grips, I'll go with anything that's good. I looked at that Stark Equipment before and wasn't sure how well that shelf would work out, so that's good to know. I had someone else recommend I try the Driven Arms Co grip a few weeks ago and I'm probably going to have a review up on it in a few weeks. I like it a lot and I think it's the best pistol grip for most AKs, but on some side-folders it pushes my thumb in the hinge.
I've heard of them before but I haven't looked much at their pistol grips myself. Just based on their photos, the grips look pretty good though I would prefer that they'd have more texture.
I hadn't heard of those before but they look interesting. There's a lot of Russian grips I've seen that are promising, but are unfortunately impossible to get currently.

I like the plain old Yugo grip quite a lot. Also AC unity makes a thicker traditional Ak style grip.

I use the magpull k2 as well. I've had mine for at least 2 years now. Never had issues
Tango down and US palm were my go to's... the best feeling by far Driven Arms Shadow AK grip.
Ooo that Driven Arms one looks nice
@JackTagar It's definitely a comfortable grip and palm swells are a chef's kiss.
That one looks cool
@Gregory-qu1ct honestly the best feeling grip made for the AK, especially with the palmswells.
@@Timshady1986 just bought one yesterday.
I am a Tango Down grip guy. Ordered one, to try on my SLR-104FR/AK74, and instantly ordered two more, for my M70 OPAP and KP9. :D
Hogue feels amazing I'm medium skeletor hands
I think the one made by Driven Arms Co is fantastic, also the Ak12 grip is always a fantastic one
my favorite grips are the rubberized + magpul grips for both Ar and AK. They have the best shape and texture and are first upgrade i do to anything.

I’ve been very pleased with my Hogue and RK-3 grip from Zenit on my two builds

I’ve been a Tango Down enjoyer for a long time. The Zenitco RK-3 and RK-9 are great too, but expensive.

US Palm for over 10 years. It’s all I’ll buy for an AK.

Don’t forget about the Polish “fatty”. Looks exactly like a normal AKM grip but slightly larger so it’s much more comfortable.
Driven Arms Co pistol grips is my best bet right now. And i tried a lot of them.
Tango Down grip
If you know you know

You bring up a good point. Usually I've regarded Magpul's furniture as just OK but for the price they really do offer a lot of functionality.
@Feldmutze yea man. Decent stuff but when you factor in value, it really elevates it. I think the looks hold it back. Love your content though bro, keep up the good work.
I prefer the Tapco saw grips which are hard to find now. However, the VEPR grips are awesome too.
I like the stock AKM grip ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Great video with lots of options! I personally went with and enjoy the Magpul K2. Where did you find that Kamysh jacket?!

I've been down the pistol grip rabbit hole. The best have been the VEPR-12, TangoDown/USPalm, and Hogue grips. The worst was the FAB fx-agr47.
What didn't you like about the Fab? I've been debating on whether to order it.
@@johndel1971able It thins out at the top of the grip near the receiver. So, my hand is always against the bottom of the bare receiver. Also, the rubber is harder than every rubberized grip I've used.
@modap3000 Thanks for the info bud 👍
Tdi russian ergo. Every time. I wish I could find something with a similar grip feel for ar15s but alas I cannot
I like both of the Izhmash variants but wish someone did a variant with texture. I despise smooth grips as I don't wear gloves when I shoot.

I've tried many types and personally like Houge grips for AK's n AR's ... be well MB ..
i just want a BCM gunfighter for the AK
Pistol grip is fine.
Have you ever checked out Khyber Customs grips?

Gladman, straight from Russia 😂. Real russian sof approved 😅

Those grips are very dangerous in CA
