That wasn't "normal dog stuff". That was the actual behaviour therapy dogs are trained for if a person gets a panic attack. All the more impressive that he did it instinctively.

Pretty instinctual dog stuff actually yea. Dogs are way more empathetic and intelligent than you're giving them credit for. Just further cemented in them as a procedure for a specific reaction through training. Not every dog, but definitely not just a therapy dog thing.

Death is just so great, one of if not the best DreamWorks antagonist ever. I like how, at the start, Puss was bragging about having "never been touched by a blade." So the moment Death was actually able to cut him, Puss became a scared, anxious mess. It's the moment he realized he's not invincible after all.

Death is genuinely such a good character, they make it so clear that he is death incarnate, the grim reaper himself. If you pay attention, you realise he only shows up when Puss's life is in danger which I think is sick.
And the reason he's "not a cat person" is because they have 9 lives, they mock the concept of death itself.
Also the scene of Puss having a panic attack is genuinely really well done, one of the best portrayals of a panic attack I've seen and also shows how much emotional support animals can really help a person.

I have no idea why this movie went so hard. And it’s opening the way for a Shrek 5. And while BOTH of these movies are so WILDLY unnecessary just on concept alone. If they try THIS hard, I’m not going to complain. Because this was fantastic. Anything can be good if you put the effort into it. And this is the absolute true proof. Puss in Boots 2 is unreasonably fantastic.

Everyone keeps calling death “The best villain!”. Now he is indeed a very well written character, I never considered him a villain. He’s literally death! Death isn’t biased, he’s a force of nature that balances out life. He dosen’t go after Puss for any vain or selfish reason, he does it because it’s his job. It’s Puss who abuses his 9 lives and disrespects the balance. If anything, without Death, Puss wouldn’t have his growth and cherish the people in his lives.

They didn't dumb it down. Sure as hell Disney would never show the main character having a full on panic attack much less as accurate portrayal as that. They just threw down the gauntlet to every other animation studio, but also set the bar darn high for their next films. I hope they can keep it up.
