If you would've came up to me a few years ago and said an animated movie about a Spanish cat with a hat and a sword would perfectly portray a realistic panic attack...I'd say you were crazy. But this movie did exactly that. 💜
So I went to see this in theaters last year with my sisters and nieces thinking it would just be a cute kids movie matinee. From the moment “El Lobo” showed up, I looked over at my nieces and my sister and was like, “Umm is this gonna be too scary for them?!” On the contrary, we were all HOOKED from start to finish. My young nieces didn’t squirm or get bored, and I was basically Greg wavering between laughter and tears all throughout. This movie still hits me in my feels, it was so well done and I would only want a 3rd if the exact same team came back to produce it.
I think kids can usually handle more than adults think. Heck, when I was a kid I was watching Lion King, Pinocchio, All Dogs Go To Heaven, Land Before Time, and Secret of Nimh, all of which contain some very dark material. I personally preferred stories with danger that felt real and had scary and dangerous villains when I was a kid, it made the stories more exciting!
@@JessAnderson1988Don Bluth once said kids can handle anything so long as there is a happy ending. The 80s and 90s era of children’s/family entertainment proved that; The Neverending Story, An American Tail, Lion King, Hunchback of Notre Dame, The Land Before Time, etc.
47:09 I honestly think that she did show up at the wedding, and that she was angry for a reason, but when Puss told Perito why things happened the way they did, she understood everything, and she made up a story to let him know that maybe this time he wouldn't run away, because she wouldn't have imagined ever hearing that side of him before, and she tells him to his face that his legend was more important to him than anything else, and that now she no longer sees that in him, seeing how much he values the people around him, and how he is turning into the person she's been looking for all her life, which is why she mentioned sharing the wish because she wants him, and he's left to make his own wish. She literally made up a story for him to let him know why he left, and how she now sees a change in him that he can't see yet in the movie.
@@abc.animal5143exactly. And how would she even know he didn’t show up if she herself didn’t? And Kitty just truly doesn’t seem like the type of person to guilt and shame someone for something she herself did also. She simply wouldn’t have been so hurt if she also didn’t show up.
Imagine a rated R DreamWorks Animation movie based around the Death hunting down famous fairy tale characters in the most brutal and cold ways possible.
I've been saying it for years... we deserve a mature horror animated movie for once that doesn't have an art style that makes your eyes bleed. Adults like cartoony, simple, appealing character design too, so I don't get why most adult animations in the west look so ugly.
Death is probably the scariest looking villain I've seen in an animated movie since Lord Shen from Kung Fu Panda 2. I've never seen anxiety being portrayed so perfectly in an animated movie until I saw this amazing movie. Death felt like an actual threat for Puss and for the audience when it needed
@aVisionaryaRevolutionary07I mean he did tried to kill him… even Puss’s past lives achknowledged that it was cheating, he just quit because at the end we wasn’t afraid of him, but he definetely was a villain, at least in my eyes
I love how emotional Greg was over the Goldi and Bears family aspect. It definitely also made me emotional; the fact that her family was still fighting for her happiness even if it meant she didn't need them, and her turning around and choosing them.
Wagner Moura NEEDS to do more work in voice acting. The Wolf/Death is one of the absolute best antagonists in big screen animated film history, the weight and power of his voice is absolutely chilling.
Perrito is voiced by Harvey Guillén from What We Do in the Shadows, AND he also did the Spanish dub for this movie! As did Antonio Banderas and Salma Hayek.
what i love about jack being so one dimensional is he reminds me of so many real life people lol. born with everything handed to them, and still want more - even if it means stepping (literally) on others to get it. ppl who have everything and simply want more. while others are competing for their quality of life or like...literal lives in some manners, this guys just like "i want it because i want it" and i rly appreciated that personally.
To me, I think the final fight between Puss and Death is a representation of Puss being fearless that he even faces Death himself. Something that Kitty wanted from him and the reason why Death can’t kill him.
Death is one of my favorite antagonists to come out of any sort of medium, Wagner Moura does so well in his performance of him. I specify "antagonist" because while he does have a personal vendetta against Puss, I don't consider Death an actual villain (THAT goes to Jack Horner). To me, Death is personally frustrated with Puss not necessarily because of the quantity of the lives he's had, but how carelessly he lived them, without any real appreciation. And like Greg suggested, Death is instrumental in Puss's arc in learning that lesson, and ceases to pursue Puss further upon his resolve to stand up for this last life he has. I'm a huge fan of these big life lessons in children's movies, it really does bring in the darker aspects of those classic fables and fairy tales that nowadays gets watered down because parents and adults erroneously assume kids won't be able to handle or understand such topics and themes. But kids are a LOT smarted than we give them credit, and are capable of understanding a lot, ESPECIALLY if you find ways to frame those stories in a fashion like this.
I absolutely adore death, he could be seen a villain or just someone who is doing their job. And all he has and been doing his job, and I think it's so sweet how when puss and boots finally learns to value his life and not waste it like he eas doing. Death backed down and let puss and boots basically have another chance at life. Now that hes finally learned his lesson. I just really appreciate how death could be seen as a villain given his mannerisms which could be seen as aggressive or something similar. But he really could just be seen as a character which is their to help teach characters a much needed lesson
It’s one of my favorite parts of the movie and I’m so glad they chose that for his voice after all Jimmy Stewart really was such a pure good hearted person
Fun Fact: The guy who voiced Jack Horner did a lot of improv with a lot of his lines. There’s a bonus feature that includes some of his unused lines, I’d highly recommend checking it out
I don't know if anyone pointed that out, but nobody got their wish, because each one of them told that wish to someone. Puss to Perrito and Kitty, Kitty to Puss and Peritto, Goldi to bears, and Jack to cricket.
Also couple of hints about Death which are obvious after you watched the movie. He is in the crowd, when Puss is fighting this giant. He puts two golden coins, which is follow up to Charon and old cementary traditions. He fights with scythes and is wearing dark hood. He is not presented in the map for The Wishing Star. And most obvious reference: Everyone thinks, is the one to defeat me, but no one escaped me yet. Such an awesome antagonist.
I love how Jack Horner was meant to be the personification of Disney. Comically evil toward his employees, has a monopoly over everything, and still wants more.
Seeing reactions to this movie in December 2024 Is hitting me with SO MUCH NOSTALGIA and excitement! This is still my FAVORITE Dreamworks movie!! It SHOOK animated movie fans for a reason!! This film deserves all the love it has received, and I think It'll always be top 3 for Dreamworks movies
Also I relate to the girl so much lol. I love how often she brings up how adorable Puss is!! I completely agree, the new animation style made him such a cutie! 💙 This movie DEFINITELY made Puss my new favorite character, he's come so far :>
I've LOVED Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas together since Desperado! Adorable in Puss in Boots and Beautiful bad @sses in Desperado! This is my favorite PIB. Thanks for the reaction. 😊
45:22 if you read the first letter of each row of the Fairy tale, you'll find a hidden message that tells Goldi: "You already have it." With the final text being "And they lived happily ever after."
First time I saw this and we were introduced to Death, I was all "Ooo, bad guy." Then he completely owned Puss. "Oh... terrifying bad guy!" And then 'Corre, corre, gatito.' ".... terrifying, MULTILINGUAL bad guy!!!" And such a wonderful bad guy he is. But he's not a villain by any stretch of the means. He's simply a Force of Nature. I think I love this movie so much because ultimately it wasn't JUST the headliners; because they fleshed out Goldie and the Bears so well, and the twist with our "Bounty Hunter". I know some people made the connection earlier, but I honestly took the Bounty Hunter label and it all made sense to me. I figured he was just a hunter that enjoys the chase, and a bit of a sadist in terrifying his prey before unaliving them. Just the way he tapped specifically on the part that was not "or Alive" on the Wanted poster reinforced that thought. Speaking of Lobo the Bounty Hunter, those weren't coins. While it looked like coins, and maybe that was the point, it was the reflective back of his eyes, like you can see with cats in low light conditions. Side notes: The captions company hired for this movie are worthless. Every point a character speaks Spanish in the movie, the captions shows "[speaking in Spanish]". Not the Spanish itself, not the English translation, [speaking in Spanish]. "Say hello to my [speaking in Spanish] blade." But I absolutely loved his rant at the end. "¡¿POR QUÉ DIABLOS FUI A JUGAR CON MI COMIDA!?" Why the hell did I play with my food?!
Yeah i totally thought he was just a bounty hunter the first time also. Right tell he reveals himself. I was surprised. I went back and watched it in the theaters couple more time. To me it was better then Avatar
The only reason everyone was able to hear and see death at the end was because everyone was susceptible to death, they could all die at any moment, other times it was just puss’ life on the line, but at the end everyone was
It's not that we think that they were originally made by Disney but in America at least, i can not speak for every country but all those stories were made famous for us by Disney. I would say most Americans do not know about the original ending to all the fairy tales. They only know the happy ending versions
2 clarifications 1:ray winston is not dead, check the gentlemen 2:There are some references to Shrek here because the first movie was during puss first life, He still didn't know him Extra fact: Kitty accidentally reveals that this is also her last life, So her love story with puss is mythological... After many reincarnations they met again at the end
If Antonio is too old to be active like he was in Zorro and Desperado these films will do, always been a fan of his! Rewatched this alot with my kiddos, great animation and mature themes and story 😅
There was a time where my two kids watched this every single day, multiple times a day, and not once did I ever get tired of it. The last fight scene is still so epic to me. *PICK IT UHHHHP*
It's really a shame this came out the same year as Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio since it would have easily won the Oscar for best animation. Amazing movie, there is no reason for it to be as good as it is and it's phenomenal and totally worth multiple watch to see all the small details (like, the horses Jack's ride in the beginning are actually Unicorns with their horns cut off, which is where he got the unicorns horns to begin with!)
The animation style is so different I honestly wouldn’t have believed you if you told me this was actually made by Dreamworks. The subtle drops in frame rate, the more hand drawn aesthetic character designs, it’s all subtle but it improves the animation quality by miles. Dreamworks animation better use this same art style for the future Shrek movies.
Hey this movie is great! I never saw the first one, didn’t feel like I missed anything. The wolf / death was a such a great antagonist. The terror of mortality.
My birthday just got so much better! Thank you so much for watching this movie!❤ I was shocked by how amazing it was, it’s so good! Definitely one of the best dreamworks movies imo. I love your reactions!😊
Love love love this movie, I'm so glad you reacted to it! Petition for Greg and Olivia to react together to more movies, especially with animals, like Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmarron and Fox and the Hound ♥
Death was actually terrifying lol, my 3 year old was so excited to see this movie till he showed up, scared the snot out of her. It’s cool that even though being Hispanic in accent, Death was a wolf, and used small scythes (used for harvesting). It’s very reminiscent of Anubis from Egyptian lore, the God of Death

Rightt? And right before this the movie established that kitty absolutely WOULD lie to comfort puss.
Makes more sense than her just gaslighting and guilting him for it like that.
Death having a face off with Lord Shen would be very fascinating, two of the most dangerous villains in DreamWorks history
Tbh I wouldn't even call him a villain, he kinda reminds me of rattlesnake jake
@aVisionaryaRevolutionary07I mean he did tried to kill him… even Puss’s past lives achknowledged that it was cheating, he just quit because at the end we wasn’t afraid of him, but he definetely was a villain, at least in my eyes
Not probably, he STRAIGHT UP is.😎💀☠️
I love how emotional Greg was over the Goldi and Bears family aspect.
If there was anyone that deserved that wish, it was Perrito. 💜
To me, I think the final fight between Puss and Death is a representation of Puss being fearless that he even faces Death himself. Something that Kitty wanted from him and the reason why Death can’t kill him.
I don't why... This movie made puss in boots look like a knock off in the other movies. This version is my definitive version in my head
Death is an entity, never a villain. Death is the ultimate fairness. It doesn’t play favorites, and comes for all eventually.
Take a shot everytime she says “he’s so cute!”
Greg: "Gipetto!" Me: "No, Jimminie Cricket!" Also, doing a Jimmy Strwart impression
That was the idea and worked lol
It’s one of my favorite parts of the movie and I’m so glad they chose that for his voice after all Jimmy Stewart really was such a pure good hearted person
When he showed up I died laughing in the theater
Love this movie more than the first one!!! So glad you’re reacting to this!! Always a pleasure seeing Olivia!!
This might lowkey actually be in the top 10 of all animated films.
One of the rare times the sequel is better than the original
Fun Fact: The guy who voiced Jack Horner did a lot of improv with a lot of his lines. There’s a bonus feature that includes some of his unused lines, I’d highly recommend checking it out
I was obsessed with this film after I first saw it. When death showed up in the cave of lost souls, I actually jumped.
29:26 I genuinely don’t think I’ve ever seen a cooler way of someone saying “I’m going to kill you”. That was horrifying
I think I made a point.
I think you piggybacked off my point.
...I soft rebooted your point 🤣
This movie is literally "the real magic was the friends we made along the way"
I love how Jack Horner was meant to be the personification of Disney.
This movie DEFINITELY made Puss my new favorite character, he's come so far :>
I've LOVED Salma Hayek and Antonio Banderas together since Desperado! Adorable in Puss in Boots and Beautiful bad @sses in Desperado! This is my favorite PIB. Thanks for the reaction. 😊
Who would have thought that Puss In Boots 2 would just so GOOD!!!!
45:22 if you read the first letter of each row of the Fairy tale, you'll find a hidden message that tells Goldi: "You already have it." With the final text being "And they lived happily ever after."
Best Easter Egg ever
"Say hello to my [speaking in Spanish] blade."
But I absolutely loved his rant at the end.
The only reason everyone was able to hear and see death at the end was because everyone was susceptible to death, they could all die at any moment, other times it was just puss’ life on the line, but at the end everyone was
I love how much she knows about fairy tale stuff 😄
"I don't like this guy" literally the coolest guy ever XD
When i seen this in the cinema with my daughter, i wasnt expecting much, but it ended up being one of the most emotional cinema trips ive ever had
I pulled an all nighter and as much as I want to watch this I need to sleep, so I’m coming back to this later.
Awesome
Goodnight
Sweet dreams
I was todays years old when I found out Greg is not Hispanic 💀😂😂
“I don’t like this guy” 😂😂
Well nobody likes death … but it comes for everyone & it’s inevitable
Deaths whistle was soooo good it reminded me of the first time in the walking dead hearing negans whistle
30:00 do americans think sleeping beauty, the fairy godmother, Repansale and such are owned by Disney?😂
It's not that we think that they were originally made by Disney but in America at least, i can not speak for every country but all those stories were made famous for us by Disney. I would say most Americans do not know about the original ending to all the fairy tales. They only know the happy ending versions
@@reuben3811you do not speak by all countries at all…
@theofficialmonarch i never said I was? As an American, I was only speaking for my fellow Americans not the whole world as you said
2 clarifications
1:ray winston is not dead, check the gentlemen
2:There are some references to Shrek here because the first movie was during puss first life, He still didn't know him
Extra fact: Kitty accidentally reveals that this is also her last life, So her love story with puss is mythological... After many reincarnations they met again at the end
I’m pretty sure they confused Winston for Ray Stevenson.
El Silbón, also known as The Whistler when translated, is a spirit that wanders the South American countryside.
If Antonio is too old to be active like he was in Zorro and Desperado these films will do, always been a fan of his! Rewatched this alot with my kiddos, great animation and mature themes and story 😅
Love olivia’s engery 10/10 keep gregg in check 😅
Love this film
The goldilocks & 3 bears storyline was definitely one of the most heartfelt and emotional ones of the movie to me
1:07:14 .....no. He didn't. He's alive and well.
Probably meant Ray Stevenson.🪦🙏
i am brave enough to say Death is a better villain than ultron was
Youre right and you should say it
Too bad death isn’t a villain lmao just say you find him more intimidating
Greg getting emotional gets me emotional 😭
There was a time where my two kids watched this every single day, multiple times a day, and not once did I ever get tired of it. The last fight scene is still so epic to me.
*PICK IT UHHHHP*
Scary how towards the end the only reason they all finally saw Death was because at any moment they all could’ve bit the dust 😅
This is the reaction I’ve been waiting for! This movie is a masterpiece! 10/10 for sure! 🙏🏼
24:09 FINALLY! SOMEONE APPRECIATES THE HORNER HEIST SOUNDTRACK!!!! God I love this track
Jack Horner is the best character in this. He's just so hilarious
Best pure funny villain. He just didn’t give a damn 😂
32:40 When something is cute: DOPAMINE
When something is very cute: DOPAMINE
When something is unbearably cute:
VIOLENCE
or passing out, apparently? 🤔
Would YOU Have Still Made A Wish?!
Yes
I would.
hell yes.
I would’ve just wished to never receive a Spanish splinter.
Hell yeh 😂
As someone who is adopted I adored Goldilocks story and arch
Love love love this movie, I'm so glad you reacted to it! Petition for Greg and Olivia to react together to more movies, especially with animals, like Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmarron and Fox and the Hound ♥
wagner moura killed it as death
29:45 if you were wondering what happened to the baby unicorns whos horns were taken for jacks collection, here they are.
One of the greatest animated films of our day.
This movie is dope the bears and goldi was my favorite part of the movie I was surprised as hell
Greg is literally me when I saw this film for the first time lmao 😂
So much heart in this movie.
14:15 Scurry scurry, little kitty.
it is funny to see everyone mistakin Death and the Big Bad Wolfe forgetting is already exist in shrek
3:56
i think its crazy how they romoved the song. i think
0:18 Jesus Christ!!
I forgot how good the art and animation is in this. Right from the start, breathtaking.
