If you've ever tuned to Open G and then jammed your heart out in the Key of G only to find yourself lost in every other key....then, check this lesson out.
We'll use arpeggios to map out sweet tones in a "DIFFERENT" key. And we'll put those tones to work in an example improvised lick or two.

As soon as I hear music theory talk my eyes glaze over. I have never been able to get into it, no matter how much I tried. I have worked out my own understanding of playing by just knowing the key I am in, and if what I am playing sounds right to me. If someone says something like “that note is not part of… whatever” I just know, that if it sounds good to me, it will sound good to someone else.
Sounds like it's working for you so go with it! I pushed away from theory for years. I could never make sense of things until learning a bit of the theory behind things on the fretboard. After I got a few wins from some small bits of theory I was hooked. But yeah, if you've got something that's working for you, roll with it.
Man, this is exactly what I was looking for to branch out my playing from the same old standard G, A, and D.

Allways messed around in open e ,after last two lessons I love open g tuning ,it has that haunting Mississippi delta blues sound,remember CROSS ROADS MOVIE,SOME HAUNTING SLIDE IN THAT,you can't help but feel that ,awesome

Very cool lesson John! Would you mind telling me what slide you are using? It looks less bulky than a normal one....
If only I knew what a flat 7 is...
The major scale being Do Re Mi Fa Sol La Ti Do (the last D is called the octave) 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8, a flat 7 is when you move the Ti (7th tone of the scale) down one semitone (AKA one half step, AKA one fret distance)
@@GuitarWithJamie would that b like for example in the scale of c you move the b to an a sharp?
Terry Johnston You’re right. Just one minor thing to add: In C Major, you would move the B to become a Bb (B Flat). A# is the same sound, same spot on the guitar, just in this case you name it with the same letter so there isn’t an A (the 6th tone) *and* an A#. Not a huge deal what you call it, but just thought you might want to know. :)
