At last, someone gave me an easy way to fingerpick. I had to relearn how to play completely when I had a stroke in 2010. I did alright on the relearn with everything but fingerpicking. Never could get the hang of it with all fingers. So now im gonna try your way for a while, Chuck man. And I like the fact that you play slide with a flat pic too. Thats how I play now. Kudos, brother!!
Thanks Sunka, good health to you good luck on your musical journey! FYI, I have just launched this range of slides and instructionals... www.backyardmusic.co.nz/bottlenecks
Tuned to open G and made a slide out of a canning lid and have been messing around for days. Got the blues scale down a little bit but I never knew I only had to press down very lightly. Also didnt know to go onto the fret wire! It makes a huge difference! This is exactly the information I needed, thanks for the lesson!!
Thank you! I've been trying for years to learn slide and totally failing. In one 14 minute video you showed me everything I've been doing wrong. Hopefully, with a little time, I can get past my old habits and finally succeed. You have my unending gratitude!
I've been trying to learn guitar since I retired at 60 a few years ago and have progressed to knowing some open Chords by watching RUclips videos. I can even play a tune or two but have always felt there must be more than just playing on the first three frets. It has got a bit boring to be honest. Last night I watched an interview with '' Sea Sick Steve '' who said '' Tune your guitar to find a sound that sounds good to you then just play what you want'' Today I've found this video of yours and BINGO !!! My guitar sounds so much better tuned to '' G '' I can now play what I like just by '' Ear '' and will learn how to play '' Slide ''as well. You Sir are a Genius. Wish I had found you years ago. God Bless you.
Finally!! A nice, easy to grasp Open G & Slide Basics for the average player. I’ve watched a few others and your lesson made the “light bulb” go off over my head... Gotta hit the store and get me a slide. Thanks for keeping it simple, relevant and offering some easy exercises.
Brother Chuck , Thanks man !!! Been playing 55+ yrs. & your style of communicating & teaching is commendable . Please keep up the good work you are doing . God Bless & best wishes from your newest subscriber !!!

I can't afford a regular resonator guitar so I had to just use my regular guitar. Maybe I can get one in the near future. I used a piece of copper water pipe that my finger would fit in to use as a slide. Just sand the rough edges smooth. Thanks so so much for the lesson because I can't afford the lessons at a shop due to raising a family and keeping a house going. My music has to be second to the family.

Thanks for the licks man, trying to learn a whole new way of playing can be daunting but those super easy and totally badass licks are just what a man needs when battling string noise, alternative tunings, and 100 other things I'm doing wrong.

i now understand g tuning and slide guitar this has puzzled me for years after playing in concert e for a long tong time . a new sound to try out thank you
I'm not kissing your ass here but this is the best explanation of open G and incorporating the slide that I have ever watched. I have been messing around with open G since the early 90's when my dad bought me a VHS tape at 13 years of age. I learned more in 14 minutes than I have in 30 years. I often wonder how different things would have been through out my life if RUclips was around when I was a kid. Anyway, thanx for the upload!!!!
Great instructional video...! I struggle a bit with the finger picking in the slide game, partly from arthritis in my fingers, but mostly because a lifetime of only using plectrum. I've only had my resonator (and a need for finger picking...) for a few months, so I'll keep working on it. Your videos are really unpretentious and tutorial. They helped me a great deal. Keep up the good work.
Bought some slides last month as love the sounds, stumbled on your lesson which is great,, now know I was using too much pressure, etc..will be back for more! Thanks, cool lesson!
