After playing 5 string banjo after all these years I just use open g on guitar play what I love on banjo such as Cripple Creek, Cumberland Gap, Oh Susanna, Skip to my Lou, Ida Red and many others. I playing without picks on my fingers because it has a nice more mellow tone and sound. I l know a lot of old banjo tunes on guitar in open g. I'm just gonna stick with that.
Thanks this video really helped yours truly Ed Ljungdahl.

Great video!! I’m from Brazil and just watched this video. English is not my language, bit i could understand you perfectly. You don't speak fast, so it helps a lot.
The first time I “heard” about Open G was last year, reading the Keith Richards' biography, where he tells about it! That was amazing to learn! I have never heard about before. So i tuned my guitar and came to learn how to play some of the Rolling Stones songs. It was incredible to see how was different and easy. Now i'm here to learn more about it and learn other songs.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge 👏🏻

6 months ago this was a foreign language to me. Things are making sense to me on guitar now. Some people don't learn the fretboard before they learn to play. I recommend drawing a fretboard on a good sized piece of paper that you can see while your practicing. you'll find every note on the board pretty quickly. use a power chord shape on say like all of the E notes up and down the neck. not all of them will sound good together mix it up and try rephrasing. once you can move around the E's, try the D'S. As you advance more, change to more of a bar chord shape, try different root notes(chords}. go from major to minor by lifting your 2 finger on and off the g string (3rd string in standard E tuning). Learn chord shapes also you can move them all around the fretboard. they sound awesome too! Good luck !😀

Your voice is very soothing. You would do good for voice-over work too.

Check this out. . 😊 I've been playing guitar 35 years. Mind you I started playing WAY before RUclips existed. And I've only known about "open G" since I stumbled on a "how to play like Keith Richards" video a couple months ago. It blew me away and I've been kicking myself for not having already known about this.. anyway, I've been tooling around with this wonderful tuning and was at home noodling around on my SG and decided to grab my strat that I had tuned to open G and started playing... And my wife actually walked in the room because she thought I had someone else in there playing guitar. 😲 She said she'd never heard me playing anything like that and thought it was someone else playing a guitar. 🤣
    😏 And I've just realized how old I've gotten.😕
