    • @jollyjames30
      @jollyjames30 7 месяцев назад +3

      The nation focuses on cricket because it's the only sport that India competes well in.
      If India had talents like Djokovic and Federer who consistently won grand slams for the nation, Tennis would be a much bigger sport in India and many many more people would follow it and play it. Especially young kids who would be inspired to take up the sport.

      @@BIBECHYOUTUification Really? Have you seen how many players go to get coached in tennis in India? Delhi alone would have over 100 training tennis academies with 50-100 trainees. There are dozens of cities like that. Competition is fierce.

If you watched WTL in December, then Nagal's performance here would be of little surprise. He carried that good form into AO & got the straight sets win over an opponent who expected an easy victory. Despite major pushback in the 3rd leading to a TB, Summit remained on top.

Solid game, no double faults, great ability to hit returns in the sweet spot and impressive forehand power. Very Fils-like. Excited to see what he can do -- if he gets through R2, he'll face Carlos in R3, which will be fun for his exposure at least!

    If Nagal could just make one change, that would be him not falling back on his forehand (weight has to be forward) every time. To achieve that, he needs to make sure he consciously has turned his shoulder and his left foot is decisively in front of the right foot (with the shoulder facing the right fence as opposed to the net) and finishes with the right foot in front of the left foot or at least in par with the left foot to get the torque. I like his technique on all the other strokes including return of serve. Kudos! Best wishes!

      Bulblik always look complacent but in a Grand Slam one would not expect that. In the third set when he got 5 games he was intense and he was trying to get back into the match but it was too late . He was very cold shaking hands with the other player who deserved a lot more respect and encouragement. I think Bulbik was mad and embarrassed by his performance and result.

    If Nagal can add little more sting on his serve like 15-20 km/ hr more then it would be more easier points for him on serve. At 26 years old he’s not a very young prospect for India. I hope and pray he achieves a lot in the forthcoming years which will be extremely crucial for him.

      @@AP15110 but govt should invest little in tennis. ATP shifted the only ATP tour 250 from India to somewhere else. Even challenger tournaments have been decreasing from past 5 years. How would Indian players get platform to rise in tennis.

      @@ajeetp470atp shifted because lack of crowd support. The tournament was struggling to attract top ten players.
      The tournament was also very far from Australia making it not very attractive as prep tournament.

    Extremely proud of him, such an inspirational story arc he has! Fun fact, Sumit and I both studied at the same school (Little Angels Senior Secondary) in Sonipat City, Haryana and he is a HUGE star out here! I think with the financial troubles sorted, he needs to work on his fitness levels a bit more perhaps (since he is anyways more of a clay court specialist) and who knows, top-50 might not be that far.
