Deadbaiting for Pike! (river fishing)

- Bait fishing isn't something I do a whole lot, I much prefer lure fishing but sometimes I have to remember to try mix it up a bit and hopefully improve my deadbaiting skills which is something i'm not vewry good at!

Deadbaiting is doing very well for me around a depth of 1 meter. My friend and I have caught 13 pike in this weekend alone. Also I hope you will be doing more deadbaiting this winter. Keep up the good work😁!

Great taste in music 🤘 love deadbaiting for pike. Rivers, rezzies, anywhere. It's usual for them to run and not sink float on small rivers. Mackerel, Smelt, sardines are my favourite baits.

Funny deadbaiting is the only pike fishing I do. I do have lure rods but never seem to catch, ledgering dead smelt though gets me fish.

Why is it so easy to weigh fish? Because they have their own scales!
Always much harder during these colder months, I had a session on Sunday ‘lake’ 6 hours one pike on lure and one on deadbait ‘mate’ most important you didn’t blank😉

Please, don't wait to long to set the hook! Because the pike can swallow the hook. If that happens the pike will die. You have to set the hook after 10 seconds.
If he smashed the deadbait and it stayes longer than 3 to 4 seconds underneath the surface, you can set the hook too. Maybe you already knew, but just in case I wanted to tell you this😁. Otherwise the fish will also swallow the hook.

Hey Dan, would you mind giving and overview of your setup? do you fish your deadbait on the bottom of the water or fixed distance under the floater?
Is that the torne at sandtoft if it is might see you down there some cracking fish in there
Never had a pike on a deadbait. Just can’t seem to get the ones in my area to take them. Or the Zander pick them up before the pike can get to the (which in that case, I’m not complaining)
I am lucky enough to live on a lake and when it turns cold and the boat is out the water (Canada) I like to dead bait from my back yard. I have tried the single hook thing, had many pike hang on fighting all the way back to shore then let go. Now I only use two treble hooks. Great video as always. Stay safe and merry Christmas.

I’ve been using smelts a lot and it’s non stop runs man can’t even get the bobbin on sometimes before the rod starts bouncin

Is it me or is lure fishing more fun, tend to get more adrenaline and a good snatch. Only just started luring myself always used bait before and bait seems to be so much more sedate type of fishing...
Horses for courses I suppose... at 65y.o. now and with dodgey knees, I prefer static deadbaiting... 🙄😂

Killing fish for bait. Deadbaiting is good and i found on rivers if the water is clear dead bream about 5" is best by far, lip hook with a small size 4 micro barb Drennan specimen on 2ft wire trace, You think the hook is too small? see were the fish gets hooked and you will figure it out. No more deep hooked fish. Unhooking is rapid and no hooks in nets. Well for water with colour a Jack herring is fantastic on same rig
What was water clarity like Dan? Think I’m off on Tuesday. One bait rod and small lures
@Steve Appy I’m no novice mate. That river doesn’t flood too bad. It’s the water clarity that matters there.

Blanked the last 5 times in a row dead baiting, but iv caught on lures.. Very strange, i used to always dead bait but have had no luck this year.

Not a fan of single hooks I still use trebles and take the barb off two and leave one for holding the bait
I’m surprised you lost that first one too, if I left my runs that long I’d be expecting to extract the hooks from its arse. I prefer to set the hooks almost straight away, I work on the theory that if it’s got the bait in it’s mouth then surely it’s got the hooks in there too, sure I drop the odd one but it’s extremely rare that I deep hook one too. And ide rather loose one than kill one..
I leave them a long time also .., I’ve had a few die on me but I never lose any 😉💪
