    Would like to see a video about how you hook your live baits. Everyone does it differently, some through the lip or nose, some through the tail others through the dorsal. For this rig, I would probably hook the top treble through the tail and the end treble in the flank or dorsal.

    You can fish this paternoster type rig without a float, just keep your rod tip high. I've used 3oz lead and a 'rotten bottom' weak link of 8lb mono. Depending on what mono line you have to hand if you tie one or two simple overhand knots in the weak link this further weakens it and ensures a break off if your weight gets snagged. I tend to use a long trace, 2.5ft to 3ft and a smallish bait which wafts around. Forceps are good for twisting traces but I'd recommend long pliers for unhooking.

    Great video👍🎣 have you tried fly fishing for pikes? Is very effective on rivers or canals as you can fish really slow much slower than lure and the pike are more likely to grab a fly than lure when weather is colder 👌 recent session brought me 21 lb river severn pike. So I think the fly fishing is the best method, if you don't like to sit and wait like with dead bait, and if u want fish slower than lures but still wana cover more areas than is perfect choise 😉👍🎣

    • @technomickdocumentalist2495
      @technomickdocumentalist2495 3 года назад +1

      I'll try and help you as no one else has answered yet.
      Most pike anglers just go in with straight dead/live baits because it is often enough for a bite, and is less hassle and far less mess ! Oh and costs less too. Haha.
      But I have used groundbait a few times, just go with either plain brown crumb, or if you think a quality pre flavoured fish meal would be better then go for it.
      I then picked out a few odd deadbaits, you know smaller or damaged ones, defrost them then chop and smash some up, some 1 inch chunks max and some mashed up flesh ( thawed out sardines are great )so your not throwing in half baits that will end up feeding them up, your looking for maximum attraction without feeding them. Also adding things like tinned fish, tuna or makerel is all good. And there is a whole host of potential liquid attracters to add in aswell, predator plus, or spicy shrimp n prawn, halibut to name just a few.
      What I always do is prep the powder ground bait first with water and any liquid attracters, like you would traditionally for regular fishing. Then I add the tinned fish, the reason I go this way is when I then give the mix a real good working over with my hands the tinned fish will basically disintegrate and spread evenly, I then let it stand for 10 mins, then give it a whirl to check the moisture content, then if I'm happy I'll then add the chopped and mashed dead bait flesh. Give it another 10 mins and then your good to go. Obviously the moisture level is variable and most dependent on the type of water your fishing, a drier mix for lakes n ponds and a wetter mix is better for forming stiffer balls for moving water rivers and creaks, and for deeper venues.
      One more thing I'd add is, that when you want to apply it, don't go in with the massive 2 handed balls, like the big round balls you sometimes see bream anglers making to lay a carpet feed, your not wanting this, you want big hits if fish scent being drip fed, to draw pike in, catch they're intrerst, I'd say one hand in the bucket and grab a medium amount, then slight squeeze , rotate round half way and another squeeze, usually makes an oval shaped nugget the size of about half a tennis ball, and a couple will do to start up, then just add another one every 20-30 mins around your hook bait. Always feed upstream of your hook bait in flowing waters for obv's reasons.
      Hope this helps.

    • @fishingtutorials
      @fishingtutorials  2 года назад

      You can fish this at any depth! Just slide the float stop further up the line :) if it’s a struggle to cast the float stop through your rod eyes, try some marker elastic tied to the line to stop the float instead. You could also fish this rig without a float and just have the line tight to your rod tip and watch the rod for bites :)

    Using saltwater baits in freshwater can on rare occasions transfer diseases that don't belong in freshwater and can be very damaging to freshwater fish. I don't know about the rules in the UK but here in Denmark it's actually not allowed for that exact reason. Maybe that's something for you guys to look into. Otherwise great video as always!

    • @fishingtutorials
      @fishingtutorials  3 года назад

      We use saltwater fish because freshwater fish can transfer diseases from other waters and it's not permitted in the U.K. Laws are funny! haha. If our bait comes from somewhere other than where we are fishing, we'll freeze the bait at -20 for 24hrs as that will kill any parasites.

    At my venues it´s only allowed to fish a single hook or one treble hook, which makes it difficult to present a big bait properly...

    My local river is roughly 20foot. Will I need to set float 20foot from hooks. This will be hard to cast????

    • @fishingtutorials
      @fishingtutorials  3 года назад +1

      Just use the float stop above the float, then the float will slide up the line to the stop :)

    Nice rig with weak link, but what if the depth is 3 to 5 meter and in a river? How can I cast it?

    • @fishingtutorials
      @fishingtutorials  3 года назад

      Push the float stop further up the line :) you wouldn’t want to come more than a metre or two off the bottom with your bait, so the weak link can stay short :)
