The magic words are JEDEC and XMP-profile. Some kind of RAM needs the XMP profile because they need 1,35V for the better specs an some don't need it so the JEDEC profile is the high spec profile and this works with the standard 1,2V. Same ath the Lenovo Legion series. The come with cram DDR 4 3200 RAM. The besst 3200 RAM iss the Crucial Ballistix DDR4 3200 but these RAM need XMP active to get 1,35V. But Lenovo also hasn't this option so the RAM only work at DDR4 2666. The Kingston don't need XMP and work with DDR4 3200 with 1,2V JEDEC profile. :D
Thank you for spreading some actual knowledge. I am going to pin this. Like I have said numerous times down here, I know a bit about the technology involved but in large part I am just a Layman what comes to intrinsic specifics of computing.
Interesting that you are mentioning Lenovo - I just bought a Legion 5 Gen 6 with AMD 5800H & 3070. It comes with a single SSD & 16GB @ 3200MHz, so I am surely going to add a 2nd drive and max out that RAM real nice. Most likely will be a video of it too. :D
@@PROcNATION I'll get mine (same specs) at christmas eve from my girlfriend. :D The stock RAM is crap. If you upgrade to Kingston Impact / Furry impact DDR4-3200 you'll get about 10-15% more power ingame. :) The trfc latencys are mad at stock and the Kingston has CL20 instead the CL22 of the stock OEM Samsung RAM. I'll also upgrade to second M.2 for the system (WD SN850 500GB) but only the 4k speed will rise because the Legion 5 Pro has juyt PCIe 3.0. So the read/writ speed won't go above 3500MB/s. But it'll be a litle more faste too. :)
But the max ram speed supported by his processor is only 2400MHz. So how is it running at 2666MHz at all?
@@janegoodall1837 a Raptor Lake supports only DDR5-800 and I can run a DDR5 Kit with 6000mHz and more ... unlinked fsb is the magic word ;)
@@coolhand2002bro i wanna upgrade my Legion 5 15ARH7H which should i choose Corsair vengeance or Kingston fury impact both 4800mhz but Corsair has c40 and Kingston cl38
thank you so much man, i couldnt make my mind up between the corsair or the hyperx but now i know, easy solution for me, i was leaning more toward hyperx anyway for the lower cas latency. thanks for the help!
Glad to hear this video was any use to you.
Thank you for watching and commenting.
The Corsair ones may require XMP profile that alot of laptops can't use with locked bios, instead, check it is JEDEC certified which works out of the box without editing bios.
Mr. Li, thank you for clarifying.
does it need to be xmp? as it is 1.2v only
You should also account for the CL number in each RAM.
Corsair 2666 might need XMP enabled
Thank you for the knowledge, Mr. Weerasinghe.
Hi! I have a question, does de corsair RAM works in I5-8400? I've read on the official webpage something about compatibility with 6 an 7th generation of I5 and I7. I want to know if they would work on mine, I5-8400
Google
*So does the lower latency of the HyperX units, (15-17-17), give you a quantifiable advantage over the slower Crucial units, (19-19-19)? From what I understand, having a lower latency, (all else being equal), gives you roughly the same slight increase in overall speed as you would get if you could slightly increase the memory clock frequency, (which of course, most laptops' bios won't let you do...) Could you do some benchmarks with the Crucial and the HyperX units see how the difference in latency between them affect overall performance?*
I should start off from saying that I am not that deeply into computers & computing performance. I would consider myself a casual user who uses bit more advance possibilities than... your mom (not a stab, just on descriptive terms). So, in all honesty, some performance measurements that I really do not even grasp really do not matter to me.
I would be glad to benchmark but I did not do it when I had the RAM available and I can not do it now since I returned the RAM I did not need. I just have the HyperXs in my PC & that is it atm.
Thank you for the interest & commenting on my material.
@@PROcNATION And thank you for the prompt response, as well as the cool video... I went ahead and ordered a 2x16 32gb 2666Mhz HyperX Impact kit for my Asus GL703GS last night from Amazon... The stock single 16gb stick is fine, but besides being only Single Channel by itself, it has the standard 19-19-19 latency specs... I also have found that in the maximized ram configuration of my laptop, two 16gb sticks of 2666Mhz 260 pin SODIMM, that the lowest latency sticks readily available are these HyperX Impacts... In learning about memory latency, I found that while most laptops' bioses, including my own, do not allow overclocking the ram, as the overall speed of the ram is determined by both the clock frequency and the Cas Latency, by having a 2666Mhz chip with lower latency such as 15, you can get ram speeds that you might see from a ram chip with a slightly higher clock speed such as 2933Mhz or 3200Mhz, but with a higher latency such as 19... So that's why I went for the HyperX... Not just the jump to Dual Channel and the doubling of ram, but the lower latency as well, so the ram itself was faster... The two sticks get here in a few days, so I'll see how things go then... Thanks again for the helpful video... I don't watch TV anymore... I watch these kinds of videos...
As a general rule of thumb you should divide the latency by the clock speed and then you should pick the one with the lowest number, assuming you are not a die-hard fan of any of the brands. To help you out - in this case HyperX is the one to go with - you just can't beat their low latency at low voltage.
I have my acer nitro 5 ddr4 core i5 4gb ram and a speed of 2667 mhz what kind of ram should i buy ? Please just got my laptop and i’m a begginer

Hi, I got a question,
I ordered VENGEANCE DDR4 2x16Gb with clock speed 2666MHz (and the speed display in the BIOS as well as in Task Manager in Windows Explorer), and my laptop is Alienware 15 R4, GTX 1070, 8th gen CPU.
When I install them both, (32GB of 2666MHz) the screen simply blackout, but the keyboard and fan are working fine, but when I remove one, 16GB out, the screen lights up,
I want to install 32GB in my laptop, but the screen doesn't display, I know that the 32Gb is supported for my laptop version,
so any help or recommendation for that issue, pls?
What I would make sure first is that you properly seated the RAM sticks in the slots. Kind of sounds like something was loose from somewhere although in that case the computer should display an error message, not black out the screen.
NB! Make sure you unplug everything attached to the computer first too. A lot of braniacs would tell you that you need "antistatic this and antistatic that" but doing something so little on my own computer has never caused me any problems.
Start off by putting the RAM in and make sure that the sticks are properly seated in the slot. Also, make sure that the RAM's contact patches are clean (and the slots in the computer are not dusty).
If still no good then you can try switching RAM sticks around.
Try the classic "shutting it down and restarting" a couple of times.
From there on you need someone more adept than me to diagnose what might be wrong.
I tried to switch between the two 16GB version, both are working well and boots up normally.
I later found out that it gives light-signal from the power button, which is (2,4) = 2 Red/4 Blue which indicates Memory Failure translated from Dell website page, I also check that the current BIOS 1.11.0 is not mentioned about DDR4 RAM support for 2666MHz at all, but I checked the older Version 1.1.6 it supports.
So, I am trying to figure out how to downgrade to older BIOS Version 1.1.6 so that I can try re-test the memory module again.
Until I have no luck in doing so,..
Hello, I understand that Kingston is good, I'm not saying that memory is very good with brend, but a 3dmark speed test etc... let's see if that's true?
Well, here is a watered down explanation. There are two agencies/standardizations when it comes to RAM frequencies
JEDEC and XMP/A-XMP (intel/AMD)
I guess Corsair one have JEDEC 2400 and XMP 2666
HyperX have SK Hynix ODM rated at JEDEC 2666 as well as XMP 2666 (I can confirm this myself) that too at ~CL15
Crucial have similar to that of Corsair, but with Micron ODM (obviously) but ~CL19, i.e JEDEC2400 but XMP2666
Dell only subscribe to JEDEC and doesn't officially support XMP
Thank you for clarifying to the Laymen out here - makes complete sense on the one hand but arises so many more questions on the other... :D
@@PROcNATION shoot me, let's see if I can find some explanation
@@PROcNATION Hep up mate..I had wondered about your bois short commings,& same with my MSI laptop I was seemingingly locked out for any sort of overclocking & XMP profiles. . maybe this might prove fruitful or put you on the right path..
Once inside the bios, press Right Control, Right Shift, Left Alt, and F2 at the same time. hopefully many more optitions will become available. & I mean many more
If this combination doesn't work maybe it's just a case of googling your mothersboards manufacturers..anwsers don't come easy though.. as I found..my search for answers brought me to your channel before actually finding anwsers.. hence why I thought I'd drop you a message in the hope it helps out.
@@Sandeepan @Sandeepan Sengupta It is not really something I am concerned over but practical aspects:
1. Why two different "standardizations" are necessary if these really are not standardizations, e.g. Dell (one of the biggest companies) not supporting one of these?
2. What are the practical differences between the agencies/standardizations or why these exists? Is it just an issue that two different companies do the same thing in their own way or the products are actually different and offer unique possiblities to their clients?
3. What does the end consumer benefit from this tug-of-war? Is this necessary? Does it drive the industry forward in any way?
These being just a few that sprung to my mind off the top of my dome.
@@PROcNATION
Short answer, capitalism, long answer, reliability vs performance
Watered down explanation
Say Micron is manufacturing RAMS and noticed some of their chips are running stable at 3200 but some are running at 2933, so they will packaged both IC in a single ram stick and rate it at JEDEC2400 (just to be safe)
Now Corsair will buy it from micron and notice it to be working at 2666 so they will market it at the same but to be safe, will call it OC (XMP) in the fine print and yes, running JEDEC2400 at XMP2666 will void your warranty even when it's well advertised
Now, intel/AMD will capitalise it as wee, so they will sell you Z590 or X570 boards at a premium and will sell you CPU that supports Memory OC by branding it XMP/A-XMP and yes, again, enabling XMP on a supported motherboard with a supported CPU will void your warranty
You should look for the SPD in the ram, these are the standart stats of the ram.
Edit: Beware of editing them.
Hell yeah, brother. 💰

Hey, I sold this PC back in February and I have been using a new one since January.

Hey, Josh. Thank you for checking out my video and commenting.
So, from what I read up HyperX is the officially supported manufacturer of peripherals for Alienware computers. HyperX in itself is nothing else but a brand Kingston uses to promote their gaming related equipment. Seems you can not go wrong with HyperX which is what I have been without a hiccup running since making that video.
Hope it works out for you. (Y)

RUclips's algorithm blessed you with viewers for this lol.
Ignore that comment, RAM doesn't "boost". To access the marketed specifications, you need to be able to access XMP (eXtreme Memory Profile) in your BIOS and switch to the one defined by the company that produced the memory stick.
If you can't find or can't access the XMP, enter your notebook manufacturer's website and see if you can find an update to your notebook's BIOS.
If you can't, you probably can't make use of the marketed speed.
Coming from a guy who watches "penguinz0" it is hardly a comment to be taken serious.

I do agree that for no real apparent reason this video is getting views... Beats me too.
How is this video any different... Well, there was an actual issue I raised. I do agree that the execution of the production is nothing special but Corsair RAM with correct specs did not work with this Dell computer as intended for one reason or another. i had 2666mhz in my laptop but i bought 32gb 3200mhz ram bcus i wanted better upgrade i hope it works
If the spec is correct then it will work. (Y)
I think its depend on your cpu. Try to check your cpu max ram frequency support.
Google is your best friend 😁
nice video. i am from Turkey
Thank you.
Finally which ram is best for laptop???

I always buy Crucial whenever available. Reliable and decent quality only trumped by Samsung.
which samsubg RAM is good for a gaming laptop?
Had a bad experience with crucial my ran DIED within 2 weeks kept getting bsod errors
just replace them they came with 10 years warranty.
Wth bruh ur not alone same happened with mine damn
Is Crucial 8gb 3200mhz better than vengeance 8gb 2666mhz ram?
3200 > 2666 🤷
@@PROcNATION crucial looks ugly, it's worth it?
What's looks got to do with anything? 😀
@@PROcNATION ok thanks 😅
@@legendman5354you are not gonna stare your ram in laptop like on desktop that has a side window

I bought the corsair vengeance 2x8gbs ddr4 i have an hp laptop with a i5 and 4gbs it will arrive friday
Good to hear.
@SKYZONE GAMING How was your experience with it?
@@skullrazor well... my laptop took a huge dump on me so I ended up getting a desktop gaming pc with the latest specs

What 2400mhz RAM is better?Corsair Vengeance or HyperX impact?
Anything that is the correct spec. Google is your friend.
Apparently, Crucial produces the chips for most (if not all companies), so might as well get up to spec Crucial RAM.
Samsung or Micron ddr memory 2 and only 2 to stick with, that's it
I am not 100% what your comment is aiming at but Micron DDR4 memory was fine.
Thanks for commenting. (Y)
It will automatically go to 2666Mhz when needed man, base clock is that 2400Mhz but the boost if it needs it, it will oc by itself.
On one hand, what you state does not sound illogical but on the other hand what kind of "boost" that 266Mhz additional RAM speed will offer? For a regular user the difference will never be noticeable. One must benchmark every day to have this minuscule power gain visible somehow.
I wanted to get what I paid for and my reasoning was never based on actual performance. My computer can handle 2666Mhz, I paid for 2666Mhz, I want to get that 2666Mhz.
PROcrastiNATION right so maybe it’s just a manufacture bad product? Like it didn’t come well? Or ??
are you selling your hynix ram?
Thanks for your inquiry. I sold it after making this video on eBay.co.uk.
You know what you discuss in this video i cant understand
I am sure you know equally as much. 😀
Confusion cleared
(Mr. Burns voice) "Excellent!"
Any RAM that has Samsung chips is best.
Which rams that has those?
crucial or hyperx which one and why?
Crucial (Micron) is apparently one of the few companies that actually produces RAM. Most other products are just rebranded:
www.crucial.com/support/articles-faq-memory/truth-about-memory-manufacturers
If you talk about the RAM you seen in this video hyper x are by Far Better than crucial ones .
Crucial 2666mhz cas 19
Hyper X 2666mhz cas15
@@Ralf986ms I found Crucial Ballistix ram at 3200mhz cl16 compared to HyperX 3200mhz at cl20
@@Ralf986ms You are correct though. I found my HyperX 2400hrz at C15 scored better then the Crucial 3200hrz at C16. The fact my laptop cannot enable XMP is big factor in this too
@@rodgermurphy5721 for those laptops that cannot enable xmp it's really needed to check ram JEDEC profiles
Nice video but i totally hate the irish song on background
The music is Spongebob's theme song's trap remix. The original is a "sea shanty" style piece. Nothing particularly Irish about it.
Thank you for the support and comment.
Hi I wanted to tell you that your cpu only handles 2400mhz ram that's why you don't get 2666mhz.
Cute story, bro.
1. Manufacturer rates the maximum memory speed at 2667Mhz: www.dell.com/support/manuals/en-us/alienware-17-laptop/alienware-17-r4-setupandspecifications/memory?guid=guid-38db72e6-e626-4775-ac5c-05355f02e5e6&lang=en-us
2. I tested with three different RAM manufacturers products and 2 out of 3 were at 2667Mhz according to the BIOS. The one working at 2400Mhz only adds validity in my eyes since obviously there were some chipset compatibility issues and that specific manufacturers RAM was not compatible, hence the slower speed.
On one hand, we have an actual real life testing.
On the other, there is someone's subjective opinion.
Now, go on and claim the numbers shown in the BIOS are some sort of conspiracy by Dell or whatever it is popular to do in 2021.
@@PROcNATION wow dude you are really sensitive 😂 the dude just guessed about what might be wrong and you go nuts, is your ego so delicate
I'd say you are sensitive if factual information hurts your flowery soul.
True, I added some of momma's cooking to what I said but that is just personal preference.
@@PROcNATION My friend, you are an actual genius with your brilliant comments
OK 😀
FK, YOU NEED 9-GEN CPU (AND CHIPSET) FOR 2666Mhz! 7700HQ max support is 2400Mhz (write in google cpu model, open intel link and you will see)!
My BIOS does not agree with you but I see where you are coming from:
ark.intel.com/content/www/us/en/ark/products/97185/intel-core-i7-7700hq-processor-6m-cache-up-to-3-80-ghz.html
Oh, and you can keep your "FKs".
@@PROcNATION No, not you FK...sorry, but that what are you trying to do! Can you get 2666mhz working?
You can change it in OC settings.
Well, not really as it is visible and evident.
hi good morning dear,
but please dont condemned my corsair brand.because im working with corsair brand now. 👍🏻👌🏻🙏🏼 however, make a comparison is a good info.
so much for alienware being for gamers.
HyperX was the recommended upgrade and it worked fine.
Crucial the same. 🤷♂️
@@PROcNATION I just can't understand why a laptop aimed at gamers would have such a locked down bios
My bet is that they do not want to have any shade on the reliability of their machines from people altering performance settings from BIOS and nuking/bricking their machines.
Makes perfect sense to me from the perspective of the manufacturer but obviously for advanced users takes away some of the adjustability.
This is old video but your cpu does not operate at higher speeds than 2400mhz :D sorry dude, i dont know what was u expecting. Did not even checked your pc stats. I dont know how you got 2667mhz anyway...
