The graph suggests the force required increases gradually, then increases suddenly to the point of activation, before dropping off again. 7:30 I don't think the actuation point on the graph is correct. The graph suggests the force required increases gradually, then increases suddenly to the point of activation, before dropping off again. Surely the required force would increase - let's say linearly - up to the point of activation, then drop suddenly as shown. (I'm ignoring the increase in force up until it bottoms out).
The key mechanism is quite interesting, almost like an inverse bucking spring.

I thought Cherry and Kailh had laptop form factor mechanical switches for a year or two now why is this the only laptop that is using them
Nope.
That thing is low profile switch, which currently popular in use for low profile dedicated keyboards (that switch is still tad bit too tall for use in typical laptop scenario)
This one is ultra low profile switch. Just about as tall as typical butterfly switch.

I appreciate your application of ISO 9000 management standards. It's frustrating to have an employer who smacks you down (or just fires you outright, in my case) for showing a gram of initiative.
I feel like they could make a decent mechanical laptop keyboard if it it was just a sliver thicker, based on my experience with the logitech G915, there are decent low profile switches and caps.
Keychron also makes some decent low-profile keyboards.

16:30 Probably the best feature of this thing. Who needs a friggen trackpad?
@Linus: Did you try out key combinations like WASD + arrow keys? Some 3 key combinations don't work - there is a ghosting problem. It only detects 2 keys pressed at the same time for W + D + right arrow, for example. Dell Alienware support isn't being super helpful in this regard. One type of gamer that isn't very common but does exist - uses the laptop as a CPU and uses all the peripherals of a desktop - monitor, keyboard/mouse, speakers, etc.
They need this as they require the additional mobility that a laptop offers - for work, game nights etc.
I got a mechanical keyboard, hoping that it responds more reliable.
The cherry MX brown are reacting to each keypress, no failure, so that aspect works excellent.
And I learned to appreciate the tactile feedback, which eliminates the need to hammer the key down to the bottom.

That’s no laptop, that’s a mobile battle station
I’ve got this exact setup with the 150hz screen and normal keyboard. It’s a portable desktop replacement that does gaming duty since I travel for work constantly. When at home it’s hooked up to a 34” Alienware ultra wide and Corsair mech keyboard, so no need for the better screen and keyboard. Paid about $2500 for it with some recent sales and it’s one of the few things I’ve purchased in the last decade that I don’t have any regrets about.
That Acer Predator is so nostalgic to see again. I remember it was a brand new thing back when I first started watching tech you tubers
Remember kids: Pretty much every switch manufacturer has surpassed Cherry in both quality and innovation, now that it has been several years since their patent expired.
That force curve looks incredibly similar to the Holy Panda switch, one of the highest regarded tactile switches for typists you can't get.
Thanks for promoting the desk pad even though it's still out of stock. Disappointment is a great feeling to have attached to your merch. 😉

Acer Predator is so freaking awesome if it wasnt so expensive. I mean it's a big boy and being able to carry desktop tier machine is fun for sure but 5000 for the base model was a bit too much.
Its amazing how smooth the sponsor ads are in their videos
So around last November, I was planning on buying a ps5 but was convinced by a PC gaming friend to invest into a pc but me being on a budget and knowing only that PCs can get expensive, I went to Best Buy and asked an associate for anything open box and he pulls out a Alienware m15 r2 with an RTX 2060 for $854.99 but the build price was $1899.99... it still had the plastic and everything still on it and no scratches and was labeled as good condition.. I bought it and as someone who was usually on console before, I love pc gaming...
But after a while I understand why not that many people like alienware...
