NEVER... NEVER buy one. Alienware (and HP) has the worst customer service I've ever had to deal with. First laptop had a cracked screen. They sent someone out to fix it. This was my mistake, I should have returned it and ordered another one. The guy was drunk and couldn't even put the thing back together, everything was out of alignment. I finally got them to send me a new laptop. I played with headphones for a couple of weeks, everything was fine until I realized one of the internal speakers didn't work. They said they had to take it apart to get to it to replace it.... NO WAY I was going to let them do that again. I tried to return it but by now it was past the 30 days. Never get it repaired if you're within 30 days.... because the clock is ticking while they wait for parts, scheduling, etc. I had to eventually dispute it with my credit card company because Alienware is so awful.
I gotta say, between my ROG 17, Legion 15 and AW 17R5, I much preferred the Alienware between the 3.... I can't always say the same when it come to productivity laptops with Dell, I guess that's just preference (I prefer older Thinkpads, they do plenty well), but my AW was definitely the most well built.

I dont feel comfortable with where temps (and power consumption) have gone nowadays. Watching some repair channels seem to support that, they show a lot of broken gpus and gaming notebooks. Yeah that is an average power brick for a gaming laptop. My M16 R1 has the real giant one.
@@scottharter1161We might have had the same laptop! Mine just had a GTX 965M though
Did you call Alex a boy? lol
@@lande.r1 he is a man thought, so OP is not very wrong
I had just got this for 2 days, and this how i felt, the performance of the laptop was good, but overall, u sacrifice the rgb light at the back along with the cooler, which will make thermals not good, and replace the rgb light in the the edge of the touchpad, but m16 r2 using core ultra 7 to reduce the heat was also a great way, im a graphic designer and i felt this laptop was enough for me to use, how should i say... you gonna have a less attractive laptop this time, but the performance was there and even cooler a little bit compares to the m16 r1, i do love the design of alienware m16 r1, but this version was more of convinient and easier for traveling, not saying the design was bad this time, but the lost was not nessesary, like its okay with m18 r2, like they still keep the design and develope the performance at the same time and that was perfect, this version was more like close to what you actually need a gaming laptop to belike depends on your budget, like how its looks as a gaming laptop and how its works as a gaming laptop.
Unless the performance overlay is totally messed up I saw CPU temps up to 104°C in Valheim when playing and recording. Honestly that's unexceptable, what kind of thermal performance is that? Straight trash.
I think with the mouse pad, I prefer to have a mouse pad that every time I place my hand on the pc to type I don’t touch the pad.
I think the r2 has the perfect size for the real state it offers
the Screen brightness and trackpad size alone are gigantic no-gos. This is a Laptop. It is MEANT to be used on the go and without a mouse connected. And those two are pretty much the most important things there next to a good keyboard.
Thumbs up only because the comment 'the guy was drunk'. LMAO.
0:04 "Alienware... Out of this world" ... I see what you are doing Alex. Well played 😏
Thank you for adding the blinking red dot, very helpful
I'm at least glad the Alienware team gave us upgradeable ram, Wi-Fi & storage unlike the XPS team.
"waaaaa, I don't like the barrel jack." FFS all gaming laptops worth a damn need power way above what USB-C can provide. Stop whining about it just because you like to daily drive a HP Dragonfly. Not everyone can afford both a killer gaming desktop and just get a top-notch ultrabook for daily use.
To be honest, I'd prefer having a smaller trackpad, you just have to adjust it to a higher sensitivity and that's it
The noise of the fans upset me even only watching the video big NO for me !!
The best thing about this channel is gaming laptops... Would love to see alex try the galaxy book 4 edge tho.
I bought this laptop and out of the box the fans are all over the place. like shown in the video here the fans where way higher than they needed to be for the temperature, but unlike here where he was able to get it to run at about 50% speed I can't get mine to go under 70 while under a load and low CPU temperatures than he had here. I would love some help with this if anyone knows a solution.
Sure go to msconfig and dissable a.acs.alienware control center.
From there go buy IETS 500 V1.
now plug and play only when cooling pad at 80% or higher.
Now the questions you have, why, what for,how come, and WHAT?
Alienware is shit product ,i have m15 r3 2020.
He got crack on lid from zipper, dont ask.
And scratches from anything and everything.
Now back to first part, fans on laptop are shit and all alienware runs at 80c usualy,or 93 c under load.
By dissabling acs you will improve cooling air intake and control.
Now why that product?
It has air filter you can remove.
Andjustable fan speed, yes with togle/button.
And other nifty stuff like 360 circular air flow to cool off.
After i got it my alienshit never gone above 60c ,and i live in hot country
Enjoy
😂
theyre 1300 right now. im debating on this.. or the acer predator with the i9 and 4060 for $999.. still undecided
as a m17x owner I bought it to be easier to travel with than a desktop and as that it was phenomenal. as a laptop for someone who is a student I would be hating life.
6:23 - Is RAID 0 less reliable than a single drive? Asuming the raid config has two identical drives.
You guys always talk about RAID 0 being this disastrous thing. Is it really though? 🤷♂🤷♂
Yes. More things to go wrong. Though data loss is the same regardless. It's gone on both if it fails.
@@TalesOfWar Fair point. So basically if you can make a Raid array it's wasted on Raid 0 and so on.
@@zackzeed If you want performance, go with 0, if you want redundancy then 1 (assuming two drives). You can always just use a larger, slower (thus cheaper) drive that has as much as the two combined drives as a backup.
@@TalesOfWar Noted. Also that's pretty much what I've used in the past. A Raid 0 array and some older bigger drives to the side as backup.
Why is that power adapter so scratched up? Did it come that way?
Is the screen too dark to use for non-gaming , daily work ?
The laptop can be customized with 64gb ram too without costing $4k+.
Those fans are very similar to those in an XPS, and the speakers appear to be the same. Better order spares of both before taxing it too much... Coming to think of it--why do you think XPSes sound better? It's the exact same speaker module I see in there...
Absolutely love being able to upgrade ram, add another ssd and even swap the Wi-Fi card with ease! However the cpu being pegged at 100c in valheim while the fans are pushing that much air is a bit concerning.. we’re you still in balanced mode here?
Very awesome, I found this exact model at bestbuy for $1300.00 new on sale and $1100.00 open box. Ended up buying the new one BUT THEN I also found the M18 with the AMD 7900M (16GB vRAM) for $1450.00 open box. Not sure which one I was to get, both are very pretty
**Had to return the M18 due to issues :(** super sad I had to return the bigger laptop but still using the M16. So far everything is working well, ended up upgrading the ram to 32GB and the storage to 6TB
Thanks for mentioning the weight in both Pounds and Kilograms
It’s on sales for 1699 at Best Buy. I know some people said not worth for original price but what about 1699? Reviews are great at best buy
I just got it today and it’s running pretty great, you just got to optimize everything or it’ll sound like a jet engine.
If you remember let me know in a week please how it’s going
@@IAmJeka yeah well I returned it to get a pc because it was overheating
@@jaidenschildhauer oh shoot really?!? Oh man. What pc did you get
What are these specs? I see other people reviewing review units, and they're usually given the highest configuration
A light up track pad! Love that.
I have this laptop, just a quick question can I use an external gpu with this?
does it do integer scaling well? 200% too much?
Who is using a trackpad on a gaming laptop? The speakers would be a bigger complaint for me but in most cases I would put on a headset anyway and I would have a controller or mouse plugged in.
Why are you guys not doing the arm laptops?
But why does it have to look like that?
Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.
I got an Alienware labtop 4 years ago and the keyboard always gets really hot. Is it still that way or did they finally fix it?
I made an on the spot decision and layaway this laptop just to play rust can it run it or should I just cancel before I pay more on it?
So the trackpad is small, the screen is not that good, the speakers are bad, the laptop sounds like a jet engine while still being hot and the design is outdated. Alienware outdid themselves
I dont feel comfortable with where temps (and power consumption) have gone nowadays. Watching some repair channels seem to support that, they show a lot of broken gpus and gaming notebooks. On my desktops i spend a lot of time to keep them well under the spec temps and power limits, and i try to the same with my only (and last) gaming notebook.
How portable is this model? Could I carry it around the airport and university? I have an old 17 R14 so think it can’t get any worse than that
Its trash, get something else.
The buy link just takes you to ther LTT Forums?
Thinking about ordering the intel ultra 7, rtx4070, 32gb ram and 1tb option that’s on sale for 1500 directly from dells website. I’ve had good experiences with dells warranty department in the past so that’s why I’m considering this one. Need something for work and that can do light gaming away from home.
That’s exactly what I’m looking for. I just ordered the one you’re talking about from dells website and now it says ‘sold out’ haha
Just purchased the M16 R2 with Ultra 9, 4070, 32GB, and 1 TB for $1700... But feeling buyer remorse after this review...
same😢
How is it? I just ordered it today and also feel that way
If eating three-egg omelets causes weight-gain, budgie eggs are a good substitute.
RAID 0 is NOT unreliable.
It's just 2 disks working as 1.
Same as most computers having 1 disk - if it fails, all gone.
Downside is the price because you buy 2 disks to get double the speed but half the space.
The trackpad could've been bigger given the space. Still, the overall package seems solid and definitely worth considering if on sale.
I miss the old Aleinware laptops feom back in 2010-2014. 3D Vision, and just a better design.
Holy shit! 104 degrees on the CPU?
I dont know why some gaming laptops have this cool factor about them. I have a desktop, this would be a downgraded experience. Do i still want it? Yes.
The body piercing didn't go exactly as he expected.
I want Windows laptops to start coming with haptic touchpads like on Macbooks. That way you can press anywhere to get a left click. And there's less thing to break.
100 C IN VALHEIM????
103 in rocket 🤣
"It feels pretty light - place on scale - oof that's pretty heavy" man decide on one XD
0:26 If you have seen the size of the OLD 240W AC adapters you will not think that this newer 240W charger is big at all.
got a legion with 3080 and 16gig vram .... needing a 40 series with similar vram... seems like a lot of them are skimpy
Can I do some 4k video editing with this?
Did u even look at other brands 240w adapters?
Could you make a review about the HP Spectre x360 14“ & 16“?
The AC adapter seems reasonably sized for a fanless 240W adapter
