Having restored a Victorian house, mostly on my own, I totally understand the overwhelm of one huge job after another. Don’t burn out, there are plenty of smaller jobs to do, pace yourself. The progress you’ve made to date is extraordinary, take time to enjoy your achievements x
Also some good advice I've heard is "finish one room first if you can, so you have somewhere clean and nice to retreat when you're overwhelmed."

@@carlotta4th He's got his glorious Yurt to live in, so he has a comfy retreat. I understand what you're saying though. In a big project, getting just one small corner somewhere completed, habitable and attractive can be an inspitation and boost your energy!
If you make the roofs now in the spring/summer you will have a sort of winterproofed Chateau by winter, and you can start with restoration inside! Do the roof Dan, it will go so much faster!
I get it yes always get your roof done first. Only problem is u can’t get up to frame to set rafters etc unless u have a floor. This château has some unique framing involved

He looks like he's going to do this wings roof structure in the Summer, it still leaves the central section and that is the worst part, a lot of stonework and brickwork involved!?!

@@OUigotshe is a friend we first met on The Chateau Diaries. A friend of Stephanie’s. We started seeing her here about a year (?) ago, and is apparently in a relationship with Dan. She has a demanding job that has her traveling a lot, so we don’t see her very often.😊

As a staircase manufacturer its way to early to introduce a finished piece of joinery ,the dampness will destroy it and as it drys out when you finally get heating on it will shrink and creak .. Build some temporary stairs for access till the building is at least sealed .. Love the channel 👌
I'm pretty sure that's the plan. I think he spoke about it on another video.
A temporary staircase can be made with stacked and reinforced wooden pallets

Guess we're going to once a week vids? That's OK as they're always filled with great shots and good news. Like the stair mfr. wrote, if you want to make them before the chateau is sealed they should be temporary. I totally get the desire to have them, but what he wrote is totally true!
Getting the entire chateau roofed in would mean so much for build progression. Dan wouldn't have any more wasted days due to rain. Finally he could get work done on the interior even with bad weather.

Stairs are what he needs to get done, or else like Dan stated it would make the repairs alot faster .

For you, this side of the roof is no where near such a daunting task. You’ve completed your roof apprenticeship. You’ve done the calculations. This next roof side will be a lot easier for you. Look how quickly you’ve erected the flooring on this side of the building with lessons you’ve learnt, and your mind’s ability to streamline the processes. Extraordinary Dan. I think you will surprise yourself and enjoy the crafting of the roof this time. Be very, very proud of your accomplishments. 😁

@@virginiahelloseriously? There is a fast forward button. I skip stuff I don't want to see by using it. Considering how much craft and history knowledge the Petherick channel inparts you are missing out. Especially now Michael is back in the videos.
I still like the occasional drone footage. It helps see the overall progress and reminds us of those beautiful views we'll one day see from the highest room in the restored chateau.

I think it is a grand idea to let us contribute to various things for the Chateau. Slate for the roof, paint for the interior walls, plants for outside and more. That way instead of just watching we can feel like we are really part of this wonderful building! Just my humble opinion.....

Ok, here's my comment that covers 75% of the comments here. Cat, it's spelled with a 'C', wished her DAD a happy birthday. Dan's bday is in December. She isn't his wife. Dan's never been married. They know each other from when Dan worked as a gardener at Château de Lalande and she was a volunteer. And no, he can't attach a drill to his lifter because it has a safety mechanism that locks if it goes too fast. And lastly, if safety is of utmost importance to you, you're on the wrong channel 😂

@@liongod1000he’s explained that in an earlier post, for some reason it can’t be done.
It's because of security reasons. The lift stops if it goes down to fast.

Can you work on something for us this week and saw you once you are inspiration you are put us every day to watch you do admire you. Please work on something for us, do not have anything from Château for several days. It’s not working for me and I’m sure other people miss you too.
I usually try not to tell ppl what to do but DO THE ROOFS DAN!!! Seriously, you have a water tight chateau coming winter and you could putter all warm and dry around inside the chateau and start on the walls. Instead of hanging off the roof in January/February next year.
The roof is a serious situation and needs to be addressed now! Dan Risks losing everything, if he doesn’t take it seriously!

Dan, have the roof done that way you don’t have to worry about rain inside the chateaux…everything will dry properly by the time you get to the interiors….my humble opinion ❤
waiting a few weeks between the top floor and the roof won't make that big of a difference tho. still plenty of other floors to put in before he can even think of the interiors.

Some lead roll will stop the roof / wall plate leaking Dan. Probably what the zinc sheet was used for on the side that you are on now

If someone don't understand, It's simply not explained "correct". We do all have different brains. The success of trying to teach something, is highly based in understanding how you best explain something to the exact person you try to teach. You need to be slower,, much more specific and detailed to some than others. Give Kat an month working with Dan and they will suddenly start talking the same language.
