Funny how with the stairs (without the banisters) it seems even less safe than the ladders -- but rekon the pyramid builders would be proud.
I was thinking the same thing. There is an illusion of safety where you can feel a bit comfortable when it isn't just a straight drop but it's still a one false step and you're in trouble situation in the middle of the staircase. Temporary railings would help. They're doing such a great job though!
@@martinfurtner2136 Is that Austria or Australia?
You sound Australian to me. And I do agree with you
TOTALLY AGREE
@@martinfurtner2136Illegal on a commercial build, which are strictly regulated for employee safety, but I know of nowhere that enforces such regs on a private self-build.
Thats pretty unsafe. Get some bannisters in
I'm 75 and one of my greatest wishes is to see Dan complete this chateau in my lifetime.
Are you also happy with your own achievements? Just asking 😊
I have to say Dan, that watching you build the temporary stairs to the top of the chateau, for me, is a HUGE deal. It’s been so long since you’ve had such access. Thanks for bringing us along. Cheers.
I agree😊
Absolutely!
Yeah Why Not, a Vintage Tuxedo, or a Stylish dinner jacket
I agree one hundred percent. God bless all and keep safe.❤

Yep, and in style: Narrow, sphincter puckeringly high with no safety rails.
0:55 Nic solves how to install the second landing in 3 seconds. Thats a combination of intelligence and experience right there. That Hero has exploded the pace of construction on the site so often.
OH MY OH MY OH MY! How you can go up and down the ramps like that just amazes me. I would be crawling down, clutching the walls and gibbering to myself. You have an incredible head for heights and spatial awareness. I thought the wibbliness of your scaff rig was bad enough but l could barely watch as you worked higher and higher up the ramps adding the rungs. 😂 It's certainly a day's work that's got your eyes twinkling with joy! ❤❤❤
No doubt his skills at that have improved greatly!
Men know where they are in space.....very annoying gifted gene...some women have it, and not all men...but when guys whip past you on a crowded freeway.....geez...
So pleased to see the ramps but then I went wobbly too. Now my brain is shouting ‘what about a handrail’. 😂 Us viewers are never happy!
He's turned into quite the mountain goat in the process! I have trouble with y balance at heights, I'm always amazed looking at Dan! ❤
With Nick and Brian showing up and helping Dan with the stair structure install this will move the Chateau's progress forward so much! Like Dan said now he can carry stuff up without climbing up ladders to so many floors. Looking good!
I can just see you, Dan, trotting down the stairs in your dinner suit, heading to the dining room, ❤to meet your friends and loved ones for a celebratory dinner, toasting the finished chateau. Magnificent! ❤❤
Dan in tuxedo😊
Oh yes .will be so good .
He'd still be wearing Converse, I'll bet 😄
Only if he gets a decent staircase.
GREAT!
Don't forget the hand rails because the last you want is for someone to lose their balance while carrying something and falling into the middle 3 stories up! :(
Stair way to the top of the chateau. What an amazing step!
handrails a must, great progress
Thats not gonna happen but in fairness its way better than the ladder lark the lads were at
Definitely need a safety rail. Fall off ladder = 1floor and survivable. This is 2 floors! 😮😢
Funny how everybody seems to agree. in theory one would think it would get safer with these "stairs" compared to the ladders, but on the ladders, you had hands and feet "connected" and needed to concentrate while as-/descending, while on these "stairs", walking is upright, much faster pace and feels safer, which can lead to lapse of caution/concentration and with no rails... oh my! stuff of nightmares.
How does he get away with this? Where I am he would be shut down and fined to the max for all the safety violations.
I believe when you have workers vs when you’re doing it yourself, allocation of the law is different. Nobody can stop you from burning your own finger so to say.
Stairs?! You've come so far, so fast! I'm so proud of you and how much you've accomplished in such a short time. I'm in awe of your skill and the effort your friends are making. It's incredible and I'm so happy for you--and for us: getting to watch this all unfold. Thank you!
For some reason, this is the video I’ve been waiting for. Even though they’re temporary and make-do, I’m excited that you have stairs. ❤ Love it!
That is a chicken ramp, not stair, and he is not chicken, very scary
@@raffaellavitiello1762 Maybe he’ll make some modifications for safety. Let’s hope so.
AAAARRRGH! Captian Dan's version of Walk the Plank ☠️🦜 A telescope on the top floor would be very cool 🔭 Just imagine that night sky over the chateau. You and the boys could see the galaxy.
Brilliant stair solution! Way to go!
Now that would be cool 👍
The ramps are not only practical. They also help me to visualize what a finished staircase will look like.
That wobbly scaffolding raised my heart rate. 😱
So glad to have you back Dan and team , mynwee daddy passed away , so he will not get to see your finished work , he loved watching this vlog , with nick using still saws and all wish i could sent yous a picture on here of him when he used to , saw tree down , in northern Ireland xx
Blessings to you. ❤🙏🏻
😢 So sorry for your loss.
Our condolences, thinking of you at this time, lots of hugs
That's so sad. 😢
So sorry you've lost your dad. ❤
Handrails please! You stumbled in this video just putting in the next tread-bars - you are likely to do so again especially when carrying heavier or unwieldy loads...
Are you with OSHA? Ever been on a construction site?
@@allenharris2549 This setup would never be allowed on a construction site - way too risky! It'd be shut down immediately.
Tbh I'd just assume handrails might be more dangerous, bc how fit this ramp with really dependable ones? False security is worse than none! However, I do get tge safetynet comments. They'd catch tools and any debree as well. But it's not gonna happen. He's becomea death defying mountain goat and scrolls past all tgese comments coming every single time he puts out a video, evennthe dailies. He's immune to that sort of advice now. 🤷♀️
Todays video shut you up lol
That is a deathtrap IMHO. One wrong step and you fall, all the way.
7:56 Dan you look like an elf, and the glee in your eyes just accentuates it! 😊❤
I believe Nick and Dan are beginning to mind-meld!
Temp safety rails a must
Dan, you are the first to walk up the staircase in the house for decades. Soon a real.staircase will grace the house. Amazing progress
Little known fact ! Building regulations around the world state that "To me, to you !" is compulsory on any build when a plank of wood is being moved. Well done Sir !
Fabulous! Glad the dailies are coming back. It's very strange how much I've missed them. You don't know me or most or your Noggin-ites. Yet I have such interest in this one place in the world I will probably never see. Everyone knows not to bother me "if Dan is on". Congrats on the stairs and I love how Nick was swinging from one of the beams.
All angels watching over you Dan, Nick and Brian. So well done! Looks so easy but it hard work but you're still laughing, having a good mood. Sprinting to the next finished part of the wonderful Chateau 😀
So good to see you have help Dan. Nick to look after safety and keep you and Brain in check😊❤
Another major achievement in a relatively short time. How proud and happy you must be with all of these milestones. Looking great, Dan!
Such great progress, I agree with others about handrails, not just for outright "slip" accidents, but also for support to better carry things up.
I love the grass on the balcony landing
Looks like the lawn upstairs needs a little trimming and a smig of fertilizer ;) Place is coming together!!!!
Those ramps are going to make life so much easier for you and should help progress move forward faster. At least the ramps save having to protect finished stairs from the wear and tear and damage building will cause.
A request though, please video the dogs realising they can come up and help you now hehe
Every video I watch I am overwhelmed more and more with how talented you are and how the chateau is a work of love. When all done it will be stunning.
Hey Dan, I'm sure you have this covered, but the physio in me sees those stairs without a handrail as a huge potential cause for a really nasty fall a very long way down. Safety first!! Looks fantastic though! Very excited for you and the chateau!! And Brian is a bit of eye-candy...just sayin'...
Great progress. Handrails, even if they are basic. Nothing is achieved if you fall to death.
I absolutely am agog! You’re walking to the top!! I NEVER THOUGHT I’D SEE IT! Congratulations!!! Milestone. I can see a house here now! 🎉
Great to see how the stairwell gives a better idea of the views one could have from different windows and balconies. Great team work.😊
You're really "ramping " things up! The workflow will be so much better and done in a timely manner! 👌 Love it! ❤️ ✨️
Dan, you’ve got such a sparkle in your eye 🤩 Glad things are going well 👏💪😃
Hey Dan, good to see a form of staircase going in, gives a good idea of what it will be when you get to do it properly. As you probably guessed us worriers won’t be satisfied until a handrail goes in 😂😂😂.
See ya in a couple of days ( soooo excited for daily vlogs 🎉🎉)
Brian is a blast from the past for sure!! I remember Kirsty being in that boat clearing the moat with the flamethrower!🤣🤣 I really miss the music you used to use in your videos.
Get some cargo nets for each floor, fix it to inside the stairs with strong hooks so can be removed if you need the winch stuff up.
I always screw boards down takes a bit longer but saves destroying the boards on removal, boards are always handy to have around.
Excellent- been looking forward to this!
Need to be super careful if you have any mud on your boots
A good banister that you can’t slip under is essential
Handrails, please, Dan!
To me: this is a project of optimism and possibilities more than building stairs or a chateau. And as such, it is a great service 🎉
Thanks for the boost!
So simple. So brilliant. Save us from heart attacks watching you negotiate ladders with loads on.
remember that one safety rail you installed... perhaps hand rails might be a thought?
Or a big circus net🎉🎉🎉
@@Mindsi Circus net, Dan and 8' of 8"x3" - that sounds... fun?
Silly and dangerous ramps.
But, it could be fixed fairly simply. Space those timber stringers about 3'/1m apart for starters. Then add horizontal treads out of your same timber materials. Simple 'L' shaped metal brackets underneath to support the treads or long lag screws through the stringers into the ends of the risers (more difficult with stringers against stone wall). And, as others have said, add a railing. It only takes one fall for your project (or a life) to be over.
I am horrified how dangerous these ramps are. It’s just not worth it. It’s tempting fate!!!!
@@vivanasperen3339 If you are so worried then STOP watching.
Fantastic simple but effective. Got to say although it's been said you need something safe on the stairs, especially if kids pop round.
This is awesome progress. The stairs should really help.
Think I'd want a handrail between me and that yawning drop 😁
Hey Dan. There is actually a very similar building with this one in Romania. It is called “ Palatul Ghiță Pleșa”, situated in Obarsia de Camp. From what I know it was built in 1892 by a local land owner who had a son in France studying Law. He eventually got married in France and later died there without having children. The building is registered in Romania as National Monument with identification Code: MH-II-m-A-10367.
I hope this helps in your journey of rebuilding. Best of luck!!
That's what you need Dan, some extra muscles. Walking the plank up to the next levels. So exciting. Yay to our daily fix. 😄
Happy Sunday Dan and everyone x
I have to say that I was expecting steeper slopes between landings. I’m glad that it looks like the incline is easily walkable. I don’t think anyone will be pushing a wheelbarrow up though.
Well done!
The walk area is quite narrow and precarious without any kind of safety railing. Definitely want to carry anything on the right shoulder or side of the body to remain close to the wall.
What a great strideforward Dan, literally. I love the idea of the gangplanks and rather than destroy them when you finish,I think they would go towards making a good kids play area to a treehouse or something of that sort. What a wonderful experience to have an old friend return. He must be amazed at your progress but I expect he’s been keeping an eye on your RUclips channel and what a wonderful mellifluous West country accent! Wow it’s all happening man.
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉 Stairs!!!! Well done Dan, Nick and Brian!!!
Great Job! Put another big crossmember in the middle all the way on top with a winch so you can haul up larger stuff in the center of your beautiful new "staircase"...
Another suggestion here for handrails. One wrong step while carrying a load and you'd be hospital-bound, at best.
they are so concentrated, therefore they hold down badluck.
I am 100% rooting for Dan, but sometimes it feels like he takes crazy risks on purpose. I’ve had to cut back on watching…wish he would learn more from his wise friend Nick.
Congratulations on the stairs, Dan. You, Nick and Brian, are chateaux stars!!
Cheers
Thank you so much to Nick and Brian for helping Dan. Things went soooo much faster with those extra hands. I am probably wrong, but it seems to me that it would be safer and just as easy to put in actual steps instead of the slippery ramp.
Its way easier to catch your toe and fall on stairs than on a ramp. This way you only have to lift your foot that two inches to clear the cross beams, not actually match the rise of a stair tread.
I haven’t even watched it yet and I’m excited lol
Are you going to add some sort of hand rail? Looks like a dearth trap without!
I agree. Where I live above approx 1.6m requires hand rails.
At least some catch netting🤔🤔😯😯
No need, it's not a permanent staircase.
This is a funny - like the whole thing isn’t a ‘death trap’ - he’s managed just fine!!
Great work. Please be careful without a guardrail... but great work... glad you're not on as many ladders. Cheering yall on from TX
That was a nifty incline tool. Congratulations Dan! Full speed ahead. See you in a couple of days
Angle measurer.
@@jmk1962 Thank you!
I just made a super sketchy stairs and its gonna be totally fine
hope you put in some guard rails as well
Yes! I have been waiting for this day ever since you took the old ones out! Ok, I know these are officially stairs but.... Amazing!
It looks amazing, so I can only imagine how you feel being able to walk all the way up. 👍🌸
Hopefully you’ll put a bit of a temporary balustrade along the edges.
My first thought too.
You know he probably won’t lol
I was thinking the same thing
Dan! Get a HAND-RAIL-SYSTEM in place.
Handrail a must as I felt almost sick when Dan was walking up the staircase and the drop at the side! Def looks more dangerous than the ladder.
Excellent transformation. I think a rope handrail would be a good idea. It wouldn't really affect the material handling width but could be a crucial thing to grab onto.
Never saw you so happy to have a staircase🥰I 'd say it rose you up.😊
That is going to change everything... Absolutely everything! Great work!
There's no grass ever going to grow under your feet Dan!! Great progress. When I think back it's amazing how much you've accomplished. I'm glad you've had good helpers come along. Looking forward to seeing what happens next.
I couldn’t imagine these stairs but, wow how great this will be for you, Dan. Good job!!
I just found this channel and I’m hooked. Hello from Mississippi, USA 🇺🇸
Welcome and enjoy the back catalogue, we are so happy to have you in the ETRF fam!
They do just reach out and grab your attention! I'm sometimes on the edge of my chair, watching them clamber all over while guiding a huge piece of Iron or wood! The work ethic is amazing👍.
I live in Mississippi also, but I've been subscribed since he first showed the place. I live in Gulfport, MS and am glad that more people are finding out about this in Mississippi.
Savannah Texas here. There are several chateau builds on RUclips but this is the best one.
How the world is small.
A welcometo you feom Mississippi to France from a girl in Switzerland who is watching a British guy building a chateau!
😊

Amazing, and then there were stairs! So glad you are aren’t afraid of heights.
Nice line at a funeral 😅
After all those months of climbing ladders with wood and buckets of stuff, this staircase is a luxury Dan.
I'm absolutely thrilled to see the temp stairwell going in! Just amazing how much this will help the upper re-building! I've been waiting to see this point for so long! KUDOS! Dan and team! Well done you!
So nice to have good weather to work and helpers make the work go faster.
Dan you had some incredible camera angles. The ramp/stairs are cool.
The stairs are a game changer. You can really see the progress and the beauty of the Chateau.
Wow, y'all got a lot done today. To see the start of stairs, really glad for you. Thank you all.
Hope you are going to add some hand rails for safety. That is a long drop you want to stay alive to finish the chateau! Good job ..continue on❣️👷
I was thinking that myself. Dan's fearless around heights, but some handrails would be a good idea.
Give 'em time! This much is miraculous in such a short time!
@@TheTheatrefan Time isn't an excuse. French law has hefty fines for unsafe working conditions.
Rails should have been put up as they went.
Yes if Dan has a fall people will say that's sad but if one of his mates falls then it's JAIL for our Danny
@@dnomyarnostaw Only for commercial building sites. Do you think they fine every DIY-er who has a mishap?
Cant wait untill ou can sort out the top brick work
Dan, you really are the most creative constructor I ‘ve ever seen before. Be careful when using such a narrow stair, please. Only a little bank can lead to terrible disaster
Stellar progress.
I knew that those stairs, or gangplanks would be a game changer....esp when you need to go up and down so much
Loving watching the château coming back to life. Well done boys. Cheers 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺. The boys really love playing with their toys don’t they. Loving the workshop & how much easier & quick the boys are getting through the job, & so much is getting achieved in the day.
Wow a game changer. Congratulations.
Love it. Clever. Glad you had good help and that it’s being installed so quickly. I gather you solved the trespassing problem before the lumber equipment was delivered. Always enjoy everything you do there, even repetitive work (since for many of us it’s educational).
What a team… Getting things done…. I’m just a wee bit sketched out when those boards get wet… Maybe some non skid tape. We all know you will be putting railings up, correct? 😊😊😊😊
Brilliant idea on those stairs! Great job!
Great progress on the temporary stairs Dan, and to think i was proud of myself for wrapping a parcel in brown paper to send to a friend today. 🤣💪
😂😂😂
OMG Dan, I just love the stone Arches as you walk up the temporary stairs ! Your chateau is a thing of beauty 👌
I would frankly be terrified to use those. They send shivers up my spine just watching you use them. I'd need them to be twice as wide as they are now before I'd attempt them, mostly just so that if I stumbled, I'd have somewhere to fall that wasn't down an open shaft.
You just sit safely in your armchair and watch life go by 😮
I had such a smile on my face the whole time watching you put in the staircase ! It's such a joy to see how it all comes together !
Phfwoar Brian is an absolute unit !!!
You said what I was thinking. The accent has completely seduced my ears 😊
I completely agree - those arms 💪💪
Nice job!
And I echo those who recommend a bannister. 30 foot falls from a ramp can seriously inhibit the progress of a restoration 😄
Hang in there Nick. Lol this is exciting. I love watching Dan get all excited. He lights up like a Christmas tree.
You will know every inch and every nook and cranny like it is part of your family. Your tenacity is so admirable 💎🙏💕🐨
