Your First Homemade Bread - All Purpose Flour

  • Homemade bread made with All Purpose Flour. My Deep South Texas video "Homemade Bread for Beginners" has received hundreds of comments asking if All Purpose Flour could be used in place of the bread flour. It seems most beginning bakers do not have, or are not familiar with bread flour. In this video I follow the same process using All Purpose Flour. As in the original video, there is no sugar in this recipe. A couple amazing time lapse clips show the dough and bread rising like crazy! The overall results were exceptional. Ingredients below.
    7 cups All Purpose Flour
3 cups water, warm to the touch
    2 Tablespoons instant yeast
    3 tea spoons salt
    2 Table spoons oil
Loaf Pans are 9.5 in by 5.5 in, 3 in deep
    Bake at 400 F for 40 minutes

I just made a loaf of this recipe and oh boy does it taste great. Entire family loved it. Thanks for your recipe and for showing us how to do it. It turned out perfect, crust was crisp and tasty. I didn't even ask my mother for help, I did it all by myself thanks to your instructions. I'm kinda proud right now ahah. Now I might have to buy some real bread pans as one pyrex isn't enough.

Larry, I have been trying bread recipes for a while now and not satisfied with the texture and taste. I tried this recipe yesterday and it's right on where I want my bread to be. Great crust and soft fluffy inside. The taste was great too. Some turn out cake-like and either taste like yeast or too salty. This makes perfect bread. Many thanks!

I made my first loaf of homemade bread yesterday. I didn’t know if there would be a difference with bread flour and plain flour. I used all purpose flour and it was delicious. I ended up baking it 70 minutes though before it was golden brown. I only had the oven at 350. And my dough made four loaves. I am making another batch tonight. Have it rising in the pans right now and going to bake these four loaves at 400. I also put four small loaves, side by side, in each loaf pan just for fun. I thought it might make it easier to store afterwards also. I don’t know where to get loaf bags so it will be sandwich bags for now. I have a loaf to Mom and one to my daughter last night. My husband finished off the first loaf that we had eaten two slices from while I was gone. I’m thinking he liked it. 😊

I have been baking bread all my life and I am 45 years old. I started making bread with my Mother when I about 4. We have always used all purpose flour and have Never had a problem ever. There are a few steps that do not need to be done here, as the bread rises absolutely just fine without the extra steps. Also you shouldn't use butter or Margarine to grease pans. A baking spray (release spray) works just fine. It also will not turn brown if burn like butter can.

Thanks. I am not sure if it was the APF, or too long of a rise, or too long out of the oven before I buttered the top (changing Camera setups occasionally causes delays). It is not really an issue when you slice it. It tasted wonderful. 🤠

    • @tootsnoname8586
      @tootsnoname8586 2 года назад

I used APF yesterday with my very first EVER attempt at making bread. Mine did not crack at all. It was quite crunchy and fluffy-soft on the inside. I buttered the top and that softened that area pretty good. Personally, I didn’t mind the crunchy except I thought I did something wrong. I don’t know if my grandchildren have tried it yet or not but Mom loved it.

Every time I make bread I get holes inside. I do I stop that from happening. I follow the Betty Crocker recipe. Everything else looks good on the outside the taste is great.

Betty Crocker was my go to cook book before the internet. The only thing I can suggest is to keep the flour on the board to an absolute minimum, or none, when doing the final shaping. The dough needs to stick together when rolling it up. Good luck. 🤠

When sticky, I knead the dough in the bowl with the spatula

Use flour when kneading it, doesn't hurt nothing and you don't have to messwith it as much.
