That didt cost a £1 to charge thats the connection fee, you were charged at 0.39p per KW you will get a bill. My model long range costs about £15 at rapid charger (average) and about £9 home charge per charge. VW sponsor pod point/tesco you can charge any car there. Battery degradation is different on all make but 6% in the 1st year is not uncommon after that it will slow to 1-2% per year hope that helps. Kwh is the capacity . kW is the power. An engine has 100kW but the gas tank has 50litre or gallon. You dont say the gas tank has 50kW. No, when talking about battery = Kwh ( capacity) and the power is kW. ( charging rate or motor).

Good video but really misses a fundamental benefit of running an EV.
If you're able to home charge then you'll hardly ever have to wait for the car to charge as you'll wake up to a full battery every day.
Sure there will be someone out there that drives hundreds of miles every day but for most people, a 200 mile range is more than ample. After all, 12,000 miles per year is 230 miles per week, not per day.
And when you do drive a long way, you'll only need to charge after driving about 3 1/2 hours.
After that, 35 minutes at a Tesla Supercharger will give you another 3+ hours of driving.

Really good balanced video. I’m getting an EV later this year (not a Tesla - too expensive) as a company car but can honestly say I wouldn’t get one as a private buyer yet, even a used one. I’m lucky I will have free charging at work (once a week) so 99% of the time will not need to use public chargers - just on the occasional longer journey a few times a year. I appreciate they don’t make sense yet for a lot of people but this will change over time as range increases, costs come down and charging infrastructure improves. A few years away until they overtake (excuse the pun!) ICE vehicles but having test-driven a few and spoken to many EV owners, I think the vast majority of people will love their EV’s.

Travel sickness is due to mismatch between motion inputs from your inner ear and vision, modified by your brains anticipation and expectation of motion. Worst in back seat (you can’t see what is happening as well), front passenger seat better (vision better match for motion) best when driving yourself (brain has better idea of what happens next cos your in control and therefore anticipation of motion accurately matches inner ear measurement).

For the infotainment, the Model S infotainment is slow compared to the one in the Model 3/Y and the Model S refresh!
However... The original 2012 Model S infotainment is still faster than the ones in pretty much every other car.
I have a 2019 Model 3 Performance, it's got an IPS display running at (give or take) 60 FPS, when I have a loaner 2016 Model S whilst my car was in for service it felt like a huge downgrade. The screen had some goasting, it was portrait and the colour accuracy kind of sucked so it wasn't great for Netflix, etc. - Entirely first world problems of course. :)
For the travel sickness, you've just been with bad drivers. If you hold the accelerator steady the car won't lurch around. Drive it like you would an electric forklift, it's the same concept. Accelerator position equals a certain speed, you get used to "This position is 30mph, this position is 60mph". New drivers do let off too much though!
Also... Never use anything but Tesla's own chargers or home charging unless you want to worry yourself to death about broken chargers! The UK is an absolute nightmare for broken chargers. As you noted, the CCS adapter is only for Superchargers. The new Model 3 uses the bigger connector that you need an adapter to use.

Agreed. I've had a Tesla for a few months, now, and prefer the quiet smooth ride. I had it over 100mph on the open road with a passenger comfortably sleeping in the back seat. No vibration or engine whine. It'll beat most ICE vehicles in the quarter mile without waking the wolves. And, Tesla charging stations are so good and so common that I can't imagine long distance travel in any other EV. Definitely digging the Tesla Experience.

It’s not all about performance. For example. I would rather have a Taycan Sport Turismo 4S than any Tesla including the plaid version. It’s about ownership experience and how you engage with the brand. 0-60 times are going to become completely irrelevant soon when everything ends up hitting 60 in 2 seconds.

It 's good that it's good what Americans call a FRUNK! (they call the BOOT a TRUNK. So a boot at the FRONT, becomes a FRUNK, therefore! However, does this come at the expense of a SPARE WHEEL COMPARTMENT? If not - where does r the spare wheel go? Many cars don't even bother to have a spare wheel now, even when there's tons of space for one (like M.G.'s estate car - one of the only estate cars on the market, now most people buy S.U.V.'s.) So what happens if you get a puncture? The R.A.C. can't fix it if there's no spare wheel to put on! They couldn't keep spare spare wheels, (if you get what I mean) to put on people's cars, because ALL cars have different sized wheels. The only thing would be for people to order a spare wheel from the maker, to keep at home, so the R.A.C. could travel to the person's home to get it. But not exactly if someone,'s halfway across Europe, on a touring holiday, or in Scotland, if their spare wheel is at their home in Cornwall! By the way, the Renault Zoe has a sort of sat nav, to SHOW where nearby charging points are. Some other makes have this facility, but stupidly don't advertise the fact. Perhaps the TESLA has it after all! Well thought out video, congratulations, and keep up the good work!

One issue with EV’s that petrol heads and EV owners are finding difficult to understand or accept… When EV’s become mainstream, the cost of charging/electricity will rise significantly - to counter loss of revenue from fossil fuels.
Remember folks. The cost of any energy has only ever gone one way - UP! Want free charging. Buy a big house, loads of solar, wind, batteries and inverters, etc. you will never get you investment back. But always have electricity

Is Cal a car dealer with motion sickness? ha where do I start. So If I had air sickness I should be pilot (and I am one) If he is a car dealer I’ll give him a big piece of advice about buying cars that I give to single mothers. If the previous owner didn’t care enough to keep the owner manual they didn’t care enough to keep up the car. As a used car dealer, I wouldn’t deal with the hassles of buying a run down car (and yes I once floor planned for one).
Cal when on and on about opening the car and in school testing they say RTFQ, so Cal RTFOM! That might also tell you about reducing or biasing out the regenerative braking.
Point taken historically about American interiors but we have caught up with the Europeans. Much worse is the fact that the Europeans can’t do electrics (what I mean is crappy reliability especially power equipment groups). I guess Tesla brought the secrets of electricity with him when he left Europe for the USA. Then Japanese stole it and greatly improved on it.
I could go on and on but I have to fix my Porsche master cylinder because it lost both circuits at once and I nearly crashed. Good thing for my quick reaction pilot skills. Oh, and I didn’t get motion sickness, no brakes, at least the Tesla has them

138,000 miles isn’t exactly high mileage for a Tesla. You have to get over 250,000 to be in it’s “middle age”. I would say 400,000 to 500,00 is high mileage and even then expect it to be in good overall working condition (even the battery pack).

If I jump in a BMW M5 that's done 150k and had a engine swap.. and I think its a bit shite and wouldn't want a M5 again... would you say I have based my judgment fairly? But even worst your opinion may influence 16k people...

  • @brodiewolstenholme3086

Err where to begin. 197 miles after 2 hours on a 150kW fast charger says that the BMS is used to the car being hammered. If the replacement battery was an 85kWh pack the range should be closer to 250 miles. Turn up the seat heaters and turn down the cabin temp.
Handles can be set to auto-present when you walk up to the car with the keyfob. But simply pressing on the door handle would make it pop out.
The car is so old it likely has free supercharging for life, so why not pop into the supercharger at Newport Pagnell services. Or use the mobile charger and plug it in at home.
But I'm glad to hear another petrol head say that he'd liked driving it.

I came across your channel for the first time as we are considering an EV and live near Milton Keynes so your comments on charging were especially relevant to us.
BUT :) I'm not convinced that it only cost £1 to charge (happily be proved wrong). If you fill a petrol/diesel car up at tesco using the pay at pump option it takes a £1 charge to validate your card - the remainder of the balance appears in (or out!) Of your bank a day or so later.

£25k plus for a knackered old tesla, I don't think so. The battery and motor may have been replaced but I doubt that they have any warranty if they go pop after a year or 2. Motor cost to replace £10 - 12 K, and even more for the battery around £20k plus . I would rather buy a brand new Nissan or similar for the same money and get a four year warranty....Peace of mind my friend not overpriced liabilities. Good video, enjoy the channel.

The problem with the charging EV is simple.
    1) charge at home if you can, if you do that, you almost never have to charge anywhere else unless you do long 150+ mile trips
    2) charge at a tesla supercharger if you can since Tesla specifically made it for their car and are seamlessly integrated with the cars navigation system
    3) look up third party charging stations in with google maps
Really, the whole painful experience could be avoided very easily, yet the reviewer failed that

    • @phareztrinimand
      @phareztrinimand 2 года назад

IT`s painful because its not efficient, so we move from going to any gas station to planning out with one works from which doesn`t, home charging yes, but fast charing not so much, that reduces the life span of the battery if you use it often

  • @mbak7801

Every mistake possible with charging was done in this video. Thirty seconds on google and all could have been avoided. This means the whole game was deliberate which is tacky beyond belief. If you do not like EVs be honest. Do not google 'How can I make regen braking cause me to feel sick'. Your excuse is invalid if you change the regen. Basic, basic, basic.

Free electric just like you get with petrol or diesel.....Bloke is some what naive when it comes to how long it takes charge huge battery. There is a difference between AC and DC charging. This size of battery would keep the average home powered for 5 days . So it needs a high powered battery to charge it in a small period of time. If he was charging at night this would not be an issue. Guess video will be borning then.

So' it needed new batteries before 150000 miles' I wonder what that cost .this is not good value . 1500000 miles is not high mileage with a proper car. The chrysler slant 6 engine for example can easily do 350'000 miles and in some cases 500000 miles. And then reconditioned and do it all over again .Electric cars are for the gullible.

Big issue is charging like with the time it takes to find a working or suitable charging station and then the Time to Charge. It’s ok if you commute in the range of the battery or have the free time waiting. The other issue I personally buy secondhand cars and the recommended battery life is around 8Y and batteries on decent evs tend to cost more than the car is worth at that stage of life or at best well over half the value. Witch I can see this corsing issues with the second hand market where the average road user buys. Openly emit I am not a Fan of EVS but they are suitable to those who like or afford them and have the luxury of free time.
