    How you installed the catch can will do little to keep deposits from forming on the intake valves. It is the PCV valve that lets the oil into the intake system and the PCV valve on the 2.0 Ecoboost is on the side of the engine behind the intake manifold. To keep that oil from getting to the valves a catch can needs to be installed on the line from the PCV valve to the intake manifold. The can you installed will keep moisture and oil mist from getting into the turbo and intercooler under heavy loads, but the line you used is to vent filtered air for the engine.

      Yea this is the 3rd video I see of people installing them like this. The j&l tutorial tells you in great detail that you need to loosen the intake manifold and the intake valve and PCV are under it.

      Installation this way actually works to keep fluid and film out of the intercooler. A second can can be installed like in the j&l video to help with deposits on the valves. Both are known issues. Ill be installing one like this to keep the intercooler cleaner but ill just C&L spray my valves at every oil change to help combat the dreaded valve build up as i dont feel like screwing with removal of all that junk to get to the pcv line.

    Great instructions! Very clear. For anyone doing this, I bought the hose at Autozone. They didn’t have 5/8 but had 19/32 PCV hose that fit the connectors perfectly. Also don’t forget there are 2 locations that need the catch can. The other comes off the PCV valve. There are other videos that explain that install.

    I installed this catch can yesterday on my Maverick Lariat eco, I had to drill another hole about 1 half inch below lower of bottom hole of upper set of holes because hood was hitting can and would not close. Works fine now.

    Nice work! I was hoping something like this would come along. Watched a guy with a Honda Ridgeline put one on with costs around 20 bucks. The ones that I've seen and you've seen are expensive. I'll drop you a subscribe as you've got Maverick content. I even watched the Ford Boss me guy here on youtube and asked him about catch cans, he also said to install one on the Maverick. Thanks again!

    First, let me tell you, I use oil catch cans when needed. I have a 2021 Mustang GT and I get a few ounces of oil caught in the catch can every 5k miles and it only has 17K miles. I bought a new Maverick with 24 miles on it and immediately added the catch can. At around 1200 miles, I had to drop the car off at the dealer for an unrelated paint issue, but removed the catch can to be on the safe side. When checking the can, it had at best, about 2 drops...that is right...about 2 drops of oil in over 1000 miles. As such, when I got the truck back, I did not put the can back on. My guess is that the valve cover design does a good job removing the oil. Hey, but to each their own.

    I think it's a great idea. I have a 2018 Focus ST and it's basically the same engine and I get about 4 ounces every 3000 miles in my catch can.

      I added one too, different make turbo 2 L. I don't get much oil in the can, but do get quite a bit of dirty water. I"m glad this crap isn't coking onto the valves.

  • @driftx2

    I did one on the pcv dirty side as well.. same mounting point on the other side with about 8 ft of 3/8 in hoses. I noticed the hood hits it a bit when I put a camera to seewhere it's mounted so I swiveled it under the fender.

    Cars used to have a foam filter which filtered out all the blow back under the valve covers before it entered the air intake. They don't do that anymore? Also, they used to make a mini filter which plugged into the hole on top of the valve cover where the hose is mounted. One would simply remove the hose, install the valve cover filter, and plug the hole into the air intake. The filter was designed with a lip to prevent oil loss while allowing the gases to vent. I guess they don't make those anymore either.

  • @tjsskier

    I have put a catch can on two Ford 3.5 eco-boost engines and they pull a lot of crap off that would for sure "coke up" the valves. I have had my truck in for multiple warranty claims (including having two engines torn down for "cam phaser" noise and replacement) and my dealer has no problem with having a catch can on and several techs and service writers have told me they work and use them on their own vehicles. The reason Ford does not do it from the factory is stupid states like California (where I live) that don't want you pouring out the crap the catch can pulls out! If you are worried, keep the old hose to put on when you take it to the dealer... but if you plan to keep your DI injected car for over 100k miles... you would be foolish not to put one of these inexpensive catch cans on your motor. Every oil change I dump mine and it pulls lots of oil and moisture out that would be baking on to the back of your DI engine valves. When my Maverick comes in, its the first thing I will do to it when it hits the driveway. Thanks for the video!

    I'm a newbie... Does this mean the brand new truck leaks oil??

  • @Aaron_Voltz
    @Aaron_Voltz 2 года назад

    I bet the reason why the turbocharger internal waste gate is failing in these 2.0 EcoBoost engines would be because of the crap from the PCV being ingested.
    Most of what the oil catch can will catch is water. Take notes people who live in freezing weather cuz the catch can will need to be emptied more often. The water will freeze in the can. Otherwise, the catch can is definitely a good mod to do for turbocharged engines with direct injection.

  • @ryaandnice
    @ryaandnice 2 года назад

    I found out after more research, this isn’t going to do much at all. There are two paths for crank ventilation to intake, and this is the minor one. The one that really contributes to intake coking is under the plastic intake and really intimidating to get to. This mod won’t hurt, but is only very marginally effective.

    • @ryaandnice
      @ryaandnice 2 года назад

      Ok. So I was wrong. What you did here catches the vent before the turbo, so good to protect the turbo some. There is also a crank case straight to inlet that probably sprays more oil on the back of the inlet valves. I'm going to do both.

    Nice presentation! Not to rain on your parade but the 2.0 engine has 2 PCV circuits on it, so you are only half done because this is the Clean side of the circuit.
    Check out this video; ruclips.net/video/8Zqxb5MRgO0/видео.html and you will see how this guy plumbed in the Dirty side circuit from the PCV valve on the side of the engine block (around 4:08) teed into a single Catch Can and ran into problems. So he had to mount a second catch can to the PCV valve to take care of the Dirty side by itself, and he didn't have to take the manifold off, he shows how to disconnect the BLUE fitting disconnects without breaking them.
    Check it out!

    Ford has used this platform for ten years. If this was really needed, it would be on there already ! Don't add this ! "It may void your warranty" ! You pull into the dealership with a warranty issue, they take one look at this, you will feel like a fool as they escort you off the lot telling you your warranty is void !

    • @peterbonaccorsi3445
      @peterbonaccorsi3445 2 года назад

      Also may void your car warranty and may fail your emissions test.Just saying.

    • @drewthompson7457
      @drewthompson7457 2 года назад +6

      Well, it does add expense, and I believe the main reason these are not factory items is that they require maintenance. The engine has an oil separator built in to the PCV system. I put a catch can on my different make 2L turbo, and it does catch a bit of oil, and quite a bit of dirty water. I"d rather not have garbage coking onto the intake valves, I keep my vehicles longing than the warranty. I Installed mine so that I could easily remove it for warranty work.

    • @skullsroad3642
      @skullsroad3642 2 года назад +9

      Ford can't "void" your warranty. They can deny a claim if they can provide evidence that the catch can was the reason for failure. Which it won't, because it's literally a metal cup holding liquid. It's not included in the original design of the Ecoboost because it's an unconventional maintenance item and expense that would have to be introduced to customers.
