Probably not a great idea to ask people if they’re native. I can go into detail but unfortunately there’s racism and classism against people of native origin, by the ruling elite.
As far as asking about the "Native" thing in Peru goes? YES most of us here are Mestizo (mixed Ancestry of European (mostly Spaniard) and Native (mostly Andean). BUT! That is FAR as you can go with THAT in Majority of the Coastal Cities. But be CAREFUL with that, cause most Peruvians DON'T take kindly to that (I actually love it because I grew up in the US) but for the most Part. Peruvians have a HUGE Complex about that. So you may want to tone down on asking People about the whole "Native" thing. In the High altitude Cities, like Cusco and Arequipa and also the small Andean Towns yes. The People there have a more accepting Mentality about it, so it's cool there. So keep that mind Guys. Welcome to Peru and Enjoy your Visit. 🇵🇪

As a Peruvian, I have to admit that Lima is not, by far, the most cleanest capital city. It is also dangerous in certain zones or districts, but also safer than other Latin American capitals or big cities
I am a Peruvian also and l emigrated 35 years ago , now I am ready to retired and go back to my roots ; but I don’t feel safe . I might have to move to the country side maybe a small village where everybody knows each other and it’s less polluted. I am glad they founded Lima nice and safety .

Lima was the most visited city in Latin America for several years! It is considered the culinary capital of Latin America, it has 3 of the best restaurants in the world, the best female chef Pia Leon also has her restaurant in Barranco. Welcome!
@@maurogotuzzi770 No, never was. Cancun received 7 million tourists in 2019. Peru received 4 million in 2019. Cancun has been the most visited city in Latin America for decades, and receives more tourists than all of Peru.
I am Brazilian and went twice to Peru. Peru is a fantastic country! Great cousine, lovely people, a Lot of history and fantastic places. You have to go to Cusco, Ollantaytambo, Pisac and Machu Picchu to check Quechua Empire places. You must Try causa peruana, rocoto relleno, seviche and food from popular market in Cusco. Take a train from Cusco to Águas Calientes It is marvelous trip with amazing landscape where you can see the Andes
I went to Peru (from Sao Paulo)for my first vacation ever, in 2004 - stayed around for almost a month (including Inca Trail) and loved everywhere I went. In Lima only 3 days, but very good impressions of the city. From there to now, everywhere I´ve read is that it is way more organized, clean and rich. Go to the historical center. The San Francisco Cathedral - and its Catacombs - is really great!. And I remember walking around in there and seeing some Chinatown portal - but it was almost 20 years ago, so who knows. For food, try the Ceviche, is wonderful - just be carefull that it´s super spicy.
@@JetLagWarriors Been a while, but Al Toke Pez (was on Street Food Latin America), Sangucheria El Chinito are a few that come to mind. Make sure you eat picarones too - they are amazing!!
Yes, you are in the rich parts of Lima where everything is green, clean and safe. Unfortunately, there is a lot of poverty in the provinces and middle of the country but it’s improving and it has gotten better with time 👍
As someone from Lima: 1) yes, there are a whole bunch of buses that 90% of the times are the reason for traffic, but they're public transport used by the majority of the population 2) there is no underground metro, i think that was a parking lot or something else. You can do public transport by taxi, bus, the electric train or the metropolitano (which is a more decent bus, kind of a metro that has a set route and stations). 3) i don't really understand what sebastian was trying to say, maybe something about the way you should edit te shit of the chicha, with the name under it and then he said that when you go to cusco, you should walk slowly because the body is not used of the altitude and you could have the feeling of lacking oxygen. (Thats called soroche) To help the dizzyness you can chew coca leaves of coca candy (it's just coca, not the processed drug) 4) 10% tip is completely ok, it is always nice for the workers to get a tip 5) the lady at the restaurand said "voy a traer salsas" which means "I'm going to get the sauces" (as in ketchup/mayo/etc.) 6) other national beers are cusqueña, cristal, la peruana and golden for example 7) for "cheers", we say "salud!" 8) the cats in parque kennedy were brought many years ago to get rid of a mouse plague, which they did, but then they just stayed there 9) lima is actually dessert but because of its location next to the pacific ocean, it is very humid. Thats why you can see a lot of clouds even though it barely rains. Fun fact: some people call the city "Lima la Gris" (=Lima the grey) because of the clouds always blocking the nice blue sky. 10) chifas are tge restaurants that serve a fusion of peruvian and chinese gastronomy. Where did the chinese come from? Back in 1849 the president Ramon Castilla promised to get rid of slavery, which caused the lacking of workforce. This is why a massive chinese migration happened, they were called "culíes" and they worked for the most part in the fields. Unfortunately many abuses and injustices took place but they had no choice but to stay. Many formed families and both chinese and peruvian culture were mixed. You have definetly been to really nice places in Lima, theres still a lot you can see and do. Hope you had a great time and I'm really glad you liked my city!! Cool video
Lima Pacific is so beautiful, Miraflores, Barranco, Magdalena del Mar, San Isidro, Jesús María, Chorrillos. The food 🤤 best food in Latin America absolutely 🌎

I am Peruvian 🇵🇪 i used to live 2 blocks away from the Huaca Pucllana , the pre-inca temple, where they used to make human sacrifices … and let me tell you, because of that, my house was freaking haunted 👻and many other places around the Huaca 😬 I grew up , seen, hearing, and feeling spirits every day, it was king of scary at the beginning but through the years i got used to it😉 thanks for this lovely video, I loved it ! It was really nice to see my old neighborhood🥰 many blessings to you guys😇🙏🏻
Great video! I am a Peruvian living overseas and your video made me homesick. Miraflores is one of the nicest districts in Lima, relatively safer and tidier than other areas. Be careful in Lima, as it is not very safe. Miraflores gives a very misleading first impression of Lima. I would be very careful filming with a big camera. Areas closer to downtown are more dangerous, as well as some areas in the far north, south and east of Lima, and districts near the airport. Enjoy food in Lima (Ivana is right, it is a gastronomic city) and the museums, perhaps Larco Museum and the National Museum of Archeology and History in Pueblo Libre district are the best. About the best beer, get Cerveza Cusqueña, you won't regret it! Enjoy Peru!
@@JetLagWarriors you're welcome! BTW, I notice that when you were walking on your way to get some food, you passed by Cafe Haiti, which is next to McDonalds. That café is one of the most traditional ones in town and it also offers some classic Peruvian food dishes. Worth trying in case you have time in Lima. Too many places to eat 😂. BTW, my name is Carlos. Enjoy!
You said “be careful, Lima is not very safe”. There is always a dumb like you who put down their own country! Comparing to other Latin America cities, Lima is safe. You said Miraflores is misleading??? There are at least 10 districts in Lima similar to Miraflores in terms of cleanness, safety and accommodations such as Surco, San Isidro, Barranco, Jesus María, La Molina, Pueblo Libre, San Borja, etc…. Do you think you are making Peru a favor by put it down?
GUYS. I am peruvian and when you said the city is clean and safe I could NOT stop laughing (in a good way). What you have seen is the literally the 1% of the city. You have been pretty naive but I really love those nice comments about my city.
este es uno de esos videos donde los gringos se ponen conscientemente ignorantes y clueless, no es de tomar en serio. soy de california y también yo odio estas vainas. abrazos desde califas!!!
"Lima is an incredibly livable city! No graffiti, no homelessness, and friendly people all around" Damn I must have gotten confused and lived in the wrong Lima for the last 17 years, ´cause I would never expect this to be a description of the city. Joking aside, its always so heartwarming to see people enjoy this city and the country in general, cheers from Peru!
As someone from Peru, I can tell you that Lima is safe in certain neighborhoods, don't get too comfy and be always aware of pickpocketing, Miraflores, San Isidro, Barranco are the safest, but other places are just really dangerous, be aware please
Hey guys! Miraflores is really a nice place to be…there’s a neighborhood nearby called Chorillos… the view on a road that runs on the edge of a mountain is stunning and there’s a restaurant up in there called salto del fraile which is very pleasant. The other neighborhoods that I visited are not so fancy like miraflores, but I’d say that the real magic starts when you guys go to Cuzco. I hope all the best in your trip! Cheers!
In November 2019 I spent 10 days in Miraflores and loved it! I stayed in an airbnb about a 3-minte walk from JFK Park and walked the same streets as you're walking in this video. FYI Lima has LOTS of poor neighborhoods. Miraflores isn't one of them and it's the most popular place to stay for tourists. But if you go the heart of downtown you'll see poverty. As for food, Lima is the ceviche capital of the world. You can't leave without having ceviche. Also, yes Chifa food! Lima has without a doubt the best Chinese food of any city in Latin America. I wasn't aware of a specific Chinatown but Chifa restaurants are everywhere. Obviously some better than others. Ask locals for their favorites. Sandwiches. Don't miss La Lucha Sangucheria Criolla which has a couple of branches in Miraflores. Fantastic and cheap sandwiches. Lima is an incredible city and I know I'll be back!
Thank you! I was going to say that about the poor neighborhoods . These people are in Miraflores , which is super safe. I was born there , and when visit , don’t go out of Miraflores!
Downtown poor? 😂😂 Man I dont know what Lima you went to hahha. San Isidro, La Molina, Surco, Miraflores , Barranco, Magdalena del Mar, are the BEST districts of Lima and form Metropolitan of Lima. The rest is middle class outskirts of Lima and some poor area's, that no tourist should visit. Just like New York and their guetto Area's!
This is the first that I'm watching one of your videos. I'm from Lima so the reason why we have many buses is because we don't have metro. What you saw in park kennedy was a place to pay the underground parking. About the church there is a huge chatolic influence so you guys will see many churches all over the city. Miraflores is one of the most touristic places is really beautiful. Lima is huge it will be nice if you could explore more places that aren't only Miraflores or Barranco. Try to go to Antigua Taberna Queirolo to try some pisco sour in Pueblo Libre if you are overthere you should try to go to Museo Larco as well. If at any time you run out of money there are many cheap menus in Miraflores in Calle Berlin around 12 soles (the menu usually comes with a starter, a main dish and a drink) You should definitely go to downtown Lima (centro historico de Lima) is really nice as well. In the case of the food I'd recommend you to try ceviche, arroz con mariscos, pollo a la brasa, chicharron de pescado, chicharrones, seco, anticuchos, humitas, picarones, mazamorra morada and arroz con pato. Also due to safety I'll recommend you to always take taxis from apps rather from streets you can use uber, beat, didi or cabify. Enjoy your time in my country 😁
Corn drink is delicious . I love people from Peru ... I have many buddies from Lima, they are so open and kind . From Brazil , enjoy as much as you can .
Steve and Ivana, your Brazilian fans are not happy that you left Brazil and they are very jealous now. Brazilians accept only eternal monogamous love lol
Lima looks a lot like Goiânia here in Brazil. similar desert climate and architecture, except that Goiânia has no sea and has more skyscrapers and is more wooded than Lima. and the population is also very different, as Goiânia has only almost 2 million inhabitants, but the video gave me a vibe that they are very similar.
Its really amazing! I am happy because I've suggested u guys to go to Peru! One interesting thing is that Peru in Portuguese means turkey the animal, and in English the same animal also named a country hehe!
If you are still in Lima, there are tourist buses ticket booths right by the church you passed earlier where you can buy tickets to visit the oldest Civilization of the Americas; it is over 5000 years old. The civilization is called Caral. This Civilization lived peacefully without Army and human sacrifices for 2000 years.
It's not Ok to ask people if they're natives. That's rude anywhere in the world. Huge city (it's a lot bigger than any city in the US with the exception of LA and NY), great food everywhere you go, paragliding, surfing, cycling, heavy traffic. Stay in Miraflores, Barranco, San Isidro, Magdalena or Jesus Maria. There are other nice places in Lima but far from everything. The best sandwich restaurant would be 'El Chinito', Oh and there's no Metro in Lima, what you saw is an undergroung parking lot. Nice video overall!
3 de las ciudades favoritas son Lima, gran São Paulo, y CDMX. Talking about how light the traffic is I can’t believe you’re in La Vitoria or Miraflores yet :) Salteado = stir fry/sautéed
Im peruvian from Lima. You went to Miraflores which is the fancy/tourist part of Lima 😆. I live in san borja which is far from Miraflores but i love Miraflores, it feels like another city

So what Sebastián was trying to say is that you should zoom in to the glass to make a close-up shot. He may have been a photographer or some other related job. The spanish translation for close-up shot is "Plano detalle". He was just giving you tips and then enthusiastically giving recommendations for things to do in the country/city
Wow! I've been following you Guys for the past two weeks now. Loved your Videos in Brazil (my Fiance is from there). It's REALLY nice to see you Guys in my Country. Yes Miraflores is Awesome, but all of Peru ISN'T like that. Lol. Our infrastructure has a LOT to be desired, Peru is a Developing Country (you'll see as you go to other Districts like San Juan De Lurigancho, El Agustino, La Victoria etc).
miraflores is like the beverly hills of lima, peru. careful when you get out of miraflores, lots of pickpockets, crazy traffic and mayhem lol still love my country! and the food is amazing everywhere
Peru is a beautiful country, I'm Peruvian and talking from my perspective the "touristic areas" are always really clean and and well organize. As an advice don't go out of that zone!! bc at least Lima is not the "safest" there are a lot of cases people not returning with their phone or their wallet, especially don't really walk around with ur phone or camera on the hand. In the other hand people is really friendly and always wanna to help if u need it, also the food is amazing. have a great time here and I'm really happy u had a good impression of my country :)
My wife is from La Victoria and I’m very comfortable walking around that area, I’ve also been to some dangerous parts of Lima. Obviously I’m not wandering around dangerous areas looking at Google maps on my phone, I’m careful but I think it’s a shame that all most gringos like me see of Lima is miraflores and barranco.

Guys if you’ll both back in Brazil please visit Blumenau/ and or Curitiba! You will be impressed! Some of the cleanest and best cities in the country in my opinion!
Maybe I can translate what Sebastian tried to say. We have many museums and archaeological sites in Lima, one of them is the Huaca Pucllana, the entrance fee is 10 soles. And if you visit Machu Picchu, try not to get too agitated, because the altitude affects the lungs.
20:08 It is not very common in Lima to ask if someone is native, but you can ask if they preserve customs or traditions of some ancient cultures. It is difficult to find people in Lima who still believe in the moon, the sun, the pachamama, the apus, but in the provinces, the sierra or the selva you will still find people who maintain those beliefs. It is beautiful to see my city from a Canadian perspective, I hope to be there soon, I would love to see Vancouver!
Im so toxic that I want them do stay in Brazil forever, or at least, hate everywhere else hehe PS.... not true!!! Lima seems amazing... Im literaly planning to study spanish abroad and I just included lima in my researches
Yeah buddy! Peru is really great. We’ve got lots of videos coming about the Native cultures. Really great stuff that we enjoyed learning about. Hopefully the videos do it justice lol but yes, Peru is a great country for travel
I'm from Lima currently living in the US. Great city to live and visit! thank you for doing this video... but most of all I would like to thank your guide who didn't take you to the most dangerous, tagged and dirties part of the city hehe... and amazingly steered you away from the homeless hehe that's a feat.
Lima doesn't have a metro which explains why the traffic is a freaking nightmare. You're in Miraflores which is one of the nicer areas. If you want to see the flip side go to Callao and La Victoria. You camera, phone and shoes will be gone in a minute. But as far as cuisine and history goes yeah Lima is at the top in Latin America.
I’m Limeña but I’ve lived in the US since I was 8 and I never really encountered questions about my native ancestry until about high school. We were going over the Spanish Casta System and someone said “ hey you’re Peruvian! Aren’t you like half native?” And I stopped to think and thought “oh yeah, I guess I am.” I remember that in Peru (at least in Lima) no one asked about that, and if anyone ever did, like for census, you’d just state “mestizo” (mixed blood) or any other ethnic group. Although a lot of people at the time would say “white” because that’s what was desired and you’d ignore your native blood. Many Limeños come from migrant families that moved from the sierra (mountains) and loose their native traditions in favor of more Western customs. For example, my father’s from Pucallpa (an Amazonian city) and my mother’s family is originally from Cajamarca in the Peruvian highlands. Yet I have no direct connection to my native ancestry. I know for a fact I have native blood, but I can’t say for certain which ethnic groups I come from. I’ve tried asking family members but they can’t give me a specific answer. It’s very sad that we loose our native traditions the moment we migrate to larger cities.

Thanks Chaw for this great comment and all your support!! We have heard (from many comment's, even from locals) that Miraflores (the place we're staying in Lima) is much more fancy than the rest of Lima. So, we will try to explore other parts soon to give a more broad perspective :). But, so far so good in Peru!!
You can only see "clean and safe city" in Miraflores and San Isidro, maybe some other districts too but not everywhere. Lima is a dangerous city depending on the place, for example where I live is pretty much safe but if you go like 2 or 3 blocks away then it becomes a lil bit dangerous. Miraflores is a good destination for tourist, a bit expensive for locals, but a nice choice to walk around. For example the meal for 2 that you paid 66 soles is a bit expensive, in other places you could eat like that for 12USD. Both of you could even get a whole meal for 10USD or less if you go to other districts. (btw I think it wasn't worth it bc the plates you chose are not the best options, delicious, but I wouldn't recommend that for tourists.) Anyway, thanks for coming to Lima and I'm glad you enjoyed it.
If you want to ruins, and ancient cities fortresses. You need to look into Cusco, Chachapoyas, Cajamarca. For impressive trails go to Cusco, and Chachapoyas. For food Lima, Ica, Iquitos. For jungle nature animals. Go to tumbes, Iquitos, Chachapoyas. For desert fun go to Lima, Paracas, Nazca, Ica. Almost all regions have things to show these I showed here are the main attractions and known tourist must go cities
Sebastian is a typical peruvian guy, called "mestizo" mixed of races. Probably, black, native and white. Most of peruvians, living in Lima, they're not sure about their origins, they are so mixed, in the country side is easier to find out it than in the capital. You can ask it, no problem. Welcome to Peru. Have a great stay!
Sebastian es un tipico limeno de la Victoria pero no representa a todo Peru. Depende de la Zona. La gente por ejemplo de trujillo o cajamarca es distinta. Lima no es todo Peru.

1.Peru has a highly ranked gastronomy. Maybe the best in South America and one of the best in the world. 2. I don't know about recent chinese immigration but I've read that a research concluded that the Inca's DNA is more related to ancient chinese than to any other native american people. Therefore there is a theory that the chinese may have "discovered" America centuries before the europeans and settled in the Andes where they developed the Inca Empire. 3. Corn is native to the Americas and in the Andes region there is a huge variety of corns: yellow, white, red, purple, etc. Most of these corns have very big grains/seeds.
@@JetLagWarriors Peru have the most variety and rich cuisine in Southamerica, but one big negative that people are unaware is the fact they do abuse of monosodium glutamate = "ajinomoto" in whole Peru, if you not familiar with it this "chinese-salt" tricks your tongue to make it feel more tasty than actually it is. Google yourself about the use and chemical side effects.

My Wife is Brazilian she loved the food here in Peru. We will one Day go to Machu Picchu. :3
We loved Lima when we visited back in 2018! This brought back great memories - loved walking by the coast along Miraflores and Barranco
Any favourite restaurants/ spots here??
@@JetLagWarriors Been a while, but Al Toke Pez (was on Street Food Latin America), Sangucheria El Chinito are a few that come to mind. Make sure you eat picarones too - they are amazing!!
Yes, you are in the rich parts of Lima where everything is green, clean and safe. Unfortunately, there is a lot of poverty in the provinces and middle of the country but it’s improving and it has gotten better with time 👍
Beautiful city! 😍 Tenham uma boa viagem no Peru!
They are in one of the wealthiest areas of the City. Of course it all looks good. Lima, over all, is an UGLY city.
As someone from Lima:
1) yes, there are a whole bunch of buses that 90% of the times are the reason for traffic, but they're public transport used by the majority of the population
2) there is no underground metro, i think that was a parking lot or something else.
(Thats called soroche) To help the dizzyness you can chew coca leaves of coca candy (it's just coca, not the processed drug)
4) 10% tip is completely ok, it is always nice for the workers to get a tip
5) the lady at the restaurand said "voy a traer salsas" which means "I'm going to get the sauces" (as in ketchup/mayo/etc.)
6) other national beers are cusqueña, cristal, la peruana and golden for example
7) for "cheers", we say "salud!"
8) the cats in parque kennedy were brought many years ago to get rid of a mouse plague, which they did, but then they just stayed there
9) lima is actually dessert but because of its location next to the pacific ocean, it is very humid.
Cool video

I am Peruvian 🇵🇪 i used to live 2 blocks away from the Huaca Pucllana , the pre-inca temple, where they used to make human sacrifices … and let me tell you, because of that, my house was freaking haunted 👻and many other places around the Huaca 😬
I grew up , seen, hearing, and feeling spirits every day, it was king of scary at the beginning but through the years i got used to it😉 thanks for this lovely video, I loved it ! It was really nice to see my old neighborhood🥰 many blessings to you guys😇🙏🏻
I love Peruvian food!!
Enjoy Peru!
Thanks for this great comment. I think we will do some museums tomorrow :D
Is Peru dangerous in the countryside out in the farms and small towns?

Joking aside, its always so heartwarming to see people enjoy this city and the country in general, cheers from Peru!
As someone from Peru, I can tell you that Lima is safe in certain neighborhoods, don't get too comfy and be always aware of pickpocketing, Miraflores, San Isidro, Barranco are the safest, but other places are just really dangerous, be aware please
@0o0o0 o0o0o0 Thats kinda racist, but yeah is also kinda true
Miraflores, Barranco, San Isidro, San Borja, La Molina, Surco (except Surco Viejo), Magdalena del Mar, etc. The rest isnt real Lima but GUETTOS

What about el centro?
Is Peru dangerous in the countryside out in the farms and small towns?
The city looks amazing and the food looks delicious! Now I also want to go to Peru. I hope you guys have fun there!
Cheers!
Thanks so much for the reccommendations, Andre!
Thanks for the tips👍
The downtown isn't poor, it's the historical center of the City. The poorest parts are the areas outside of Lima also known as the "conos"
Thank you!
I was going to say that about the poor neighborhoods . These people are in Miraflores , which is super safe.
I was born there , and when visit , don’t go out of Miraflores!
Downtown poor? 😂😂 Man I dont know what Lima you went to hahha. San Isidro, La Molina, Surco, Miraflores , Barranco, Magdalena del Mar, are the BEST districts of Lima and form Metropolitan of Lima. and yes Miraflores is one of the wealthiest parts of the city were you are allowed to walk around if you don't live there. Other parts are gated
Thanks so much for this! It’s always nice to get advice from a local👍

JAJAJAJAJ si claro
🤣🤣🤣

It is not very common in Lima to ask if someone is native, but you can ask if they preserve customs or traditions of some ancient cultures. It is difficult to find people in Lima who still believe in the moon, the sun, the pachamama, the apus, but in the provinces, the sierra or the selva you will still find people who maintain those beliefs. Excellent video and thanks for sharing

Peru is amazing. Half Peruvian, been there 4 times, it is amazing.
Vale a pena comprar um imóvel em Lima? Me parece um mercado sólido. 11 milhões de pessoas.
As a Peruvian, nope. Miraflores is really pretty, save and clean but that’s just one of the many districts. There’s a LOT of other places where there’s traffic, trash and a lot of robbery so yep. But of course we have good things haha so come :)
First world Lima for sure. That’s all beautiful
I AM PERUVIAN AND WE LOVE CANADA AND OF COURSE CANADIAN CITIZENS.
As a peruvian I must say that Lima is everything but clean lol
PERUVIANS LOVE PEOPLE LIKE YOU POLITE AND REALLY CLEVER.
Cheers from 🇨🇦
Haven't been to South America yet, but thinking of going there in 2023 but most likely 2024. Peru looks like a great jumping on point
Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
@@samneksret9489 do you know of any studies that prove the side effects of msg? I think it is also found in tomatoes
@@etchalaco9971 It is like sugar, it can be found in canes but when it is refined it becomes potentially more harmful, In the same way with flour, wheat flour is less harmful than white flour (white flour is more refined).
@@3dviz332ok, but still waiting for studies that show that it is "potentially more harmful"
