Bro, thanks for such a complete video about my country, there are few videos about Peru and its great geographical wealth. What a joy that you had us in mind, Peru is a large, beautiful country with humble and smiling people. You will always be welcome to our country. ¡Muchas Gracias amigo!
Peru also has by far the longest and richest history of all the countries of South America. Mostly because of the Incan and pre-Incan civilizations which began in Peru at least 2000 to 3000 years ago and spread to the rest of South America along the Andes mountains. This was even long before the Europeans( Spanish and Portuguese) conquered the continent.
In my opinion Peru is wonderful! I've visited just over 65 countries and Peru is probably my favorite. The country has the most amazing and diverse landscapes you can ever see! You can walk the Andes with the alpacas and see the unique rainbow mountains in the world, they have the best waves for surfing, and more than half of the country is a huge tropical jungle. You will also see the only boiling rivers on the planet, in the Peruvian Amazon is also "Sierra del Divisor" the largest tropical mountain in the entire Amazon! Peru has the area with the greatest biodiversity in the world, the region called "EL MANU" is a paradise of biodiversity on the planet, many scientists study and discover new species of animals every year! We must not forget that it is the country with the largest tropical land area in the Americas (approx 70% of the Peruvian territory). Absolutely amazing country! ¡Viva Peru!
Nevertheless, since half of Peru is Lima, the Challa aka the coastal humid desert, which includes Lima, makes more than half of Peru, and it's not at all diverse. Thus, the City State of the Peru is just as interesting as the City State of the Vatican in terms of physical geography if you live there (with more than 50% statistical confidence).
@@veronicajulianadelvalle284 Randomly pick a peruvian, if the procedure follows discrete uniform distribution (everyone gets equal opportunity of being picked), then there is more than 0.5 chance that this person is a challa person, consider the road condition it's not going to be easy for this random challa person to visit the Andes frequently. The vast majority of Peruvian doesn't even have any chance to have a weekend trip to the Andes every week. For the vast majority, the challenge to visit the quechua and the yungas is just as big as the challenge of an average American to visit the quechua and the yungas. So in that sense yes the coastal desert does represent el Peru. The Andes is not a backyard that common Peruvian can go without hesitation, maybe in the future you'll reach that, but at least for the current condition no, it's still the City State de el Peru. Nevertheless if you rendomly pick a llama, there's more than half chance this llama is from the Andes. However, llamas don't have passport and for them there's no difference between Peru and Bolivia, and we care about humans not llamas. Btw if you pronounce "llama" as "lama" there's a big chance that you don't live an Andes life.

Stayed in coastal Lima that has 'weird' mild humid yet arid climate. Over 3 months did long weekends away to Cusco Iquitos Paracas and contrast and diversity of climate and landscapes from high altitude tundra to deep tropical rainforest to extreme desert arid was truly amazing.
Recently found out that potatoes and tomatoes originated there, they are part of the same plant. As the mountains quickly rose the plants roots became potatoes in the higher colder climate. The plants that stayed below, they developed tomatoes on their vines. Peru has more than 2000 varieties of potato.

Peru is also a great place for tourism, there is so much to see and do. Food is great, people are friendly, a lot of cultural heritage.. I've been there twice and worth every penny. Greetings from Chile
I’ve visited Peru a couple times, both exploring the deserts and ruins in one and the Amazon in the other. It was amazing to me that all of those climates were in the same country.
You covered a great amount of physical geography facts! I know you purposely didn't go into more nuanced climate classification schemes, but some of the Andean climates are some of the rarest in the world. I think it's worth mentioning the desert climate on the coast is blessed with strong rivers running from the Andes, leading to Nile-like agricultural potential...so much so that wine production was banned during the colonial period as Peruvian planters could outproduce Spain. That led to pisco... I would have also emphasized the coastal desert fog more, as people are now harvesting water from it.
All good stuff I could have mentioned. I came across a claim that Peru had the most microclimates in the world but I couldn't find another source backing up that claim so I left it out. I wasn't aware of the wine production ban, very interesting. I'll have to dive deeper into that. I actually mentioned the harvesting of the fog in another video on environmental adaptions that I did about a year ago but I completely forgot to bring that up here. I'm thinking about making a video on the environmental adaptions of Peru so I'll include it there.
@@GeographyGeek Nice! If you do, look into the Moray ruins, and also how potatoes came to be a storable grain (instead of a more perishable tuber starch; think James Scott) through turning them into chuno. Well...then you're bordering on ethnobotany, and the ethnobotany of Peru is just amazing, from archaeological traces of ceviche (kumara and aji) to coca to entheogens to chicha ...
@@GeographyGeek Yeah, Peru has many more climate zones that aren't covered in the official classifications because they are rare, probably unique to Peru. like painting a massive area of the Andes as "tundra"... yeah no bro, there's wild variety even there and a plateau shared with Bolivia which also creates unique ecosystems. And there is no classification for the coast, "desert hot"... no, it doesn't apply since its not hot, like other deserts, at least not all of it.
I went to Peru 3 years ago with my parents and it was crazy amazing but I need to go back with friends and explore more than just Cusco, Puno, and Lima

I buy grapes at the supermarket that were grown in Peru. They are pretty good which is strange since Peru does not have a Mediterranean climate. My guess is they found a micro climate that matches the Mediterranean climate.
Peru does have lots of climates similar to the Mediterranean. Especially ‘Ica’. Peru produces tons of grapes as well as olives. In fact the national alcoholic beverage is pisco , which is made from grapes.
Ya pisco is to Peru what wine is to Bordeaux in France. It is traditionally a medieval process of distillation brought over from Europe. The wine in Peru is terrible bit the Pisco is better than most spirits anywhere. Because of Peru's wet desert coast, meaning they have heavy fog with moisture which is most likely similar to traditional growing conditions- not unlike the coastal wine regions of California that get there moisture from the clouds also. Of course there is irrigation involved- hence the coastal river valleys the run all along the coast coming out of the Andes where water is usually quit abundant.
That is because Peru is the world's leading exporter of grapes, due to its biodiversity. Also the first exporter of blueberries, asparagus, and even more.
Visited Peru in 2017 and it has to be my favorite country in the world. Idk why but it just felt like home instantly. I am from Nepal and I don’t know when I will get a chance to go back coz it’s thousands of miles away other side of the world. But Peru is my fav country in South America ❤️

It’s no coincidence that Peru is home to the oldest known civilizations in the Western Hemisphere, known as Caral. And the largest empire ever seen in the Western Hemisphere. It’s one of the most biodiverse countries in the world. The Amazon river ‘begins’ in Peru. The 3rd highest peak in the Western Hemisphere. Some of the driest deserts in the world. How to forget when South Park dedicated a special of 2 episodes to this country in "PANDEMIC" and "PANDEMIC 2 The Startling" supposedly the Peruvian culture is invading the United States with its guinea pigs and its music, a fact in Latin America the episodes they called them "PERUDEMIC" or "PERUDEMIA" .. I think that South Park was visionary with Peru, since now the Peruvian restaurants are in full expansion in the US! example in Miami they are the best, even the largest Mall has a giant Peruvian restaurant at the entrance .

I went to peru in 2003, 2006, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2019... its weird how much places change.. some places i used to like I like less.. some places i like more... Miraflores in Lima is nice now if ur wealthy but not so much for poor backpackers.. Brena got nicer.. I did isla del sol 3 times and isla de la luna once... you missed off Huacachina... although I notice that Ica is getting ever bigger & uglier.. the whole desert is covered in houses.. I preferred Cajamarca back in 2003... i went back in 2019... lots more shops & stuff.. ive noticed also theres fewer & fewer people dressed in traditional dress.. so harder to get nice photos... i went around lake titicaca the whole coastline although its a real pain in the butt cos you cant cross the border north of the lake and get a stamp... I still havent been to Iquitos.. you also missed off Kuelap... Huaras... etc

What an amazing beautiful country

¡Viva Peru!
I have friends who dream of visiting Peru!
Machu Picchu is the most beautiful place in the world.
Brazil enters the chat
Nevertheless, since half of Peru is Lima, the Challa aka the coastal humid desert, which includes Lima, makes more than half of Peru, and it's not at all diverse. Thus, the City State of the Peru is just as interesting as the City State of the Vatican in terms of physical geography if you live there (with more than 50% statistical confidence).
@@GyacoYu ummm really? Lima only represent 3% of Peru !

We see this during the Libertadores, teams from Peru and Bolivia runs all 90 minutes in sea level without taking a sweat.
Im left wondering to these people who have the adapted blood cells to live at the high altitudes. If they go down to sea level do they get any dangerous affects?
@@leslietaylor4458I didn’t, at least as far as I know.
I had the lucky chance to go to Peru when I was 13 and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life. Very very beautiful.
Recently found out that potatoes and tomatoes originated there, they are part of the same plant. As the mountains quickly rose the plants roots became potatoes in the higher colder climate. The plants that stayed below, they developed tomatoes on their vines. Peru has more than 2000 varieties of potato.

It's not the worlds largest left hand wave, it's the worlds longest. Great video, thanks.

@@4rootof2isirrational I'm from Portugal and Peruvian wine is much better than Chilean for example.
That is because Peru is the world's leading exporter of grapes, due to its biodiversity. Also the first exporter of blueberries, asparagus, and even more.

According ACIS Peru is the third most biodiverse country in the world, without a doubt this country should be visited for its enormous tropical forests, its giant Andes, its coastal deserts, a large and extremely diverse country!
You know a lot about Peru 🙂
Active volcanoes and avalanches, freezing cold deserts and mountains, humid jungles, no thanks. 😂 I found out what jungles were about in the Marine Corps, misery, extremely hot and humid to the point you can't breath and you're constantly accosted by huge fire ants, insects and little monkeys.
@@whatabouttheearth you miss the real fun! A walk through the Peruvian Cordillera Blanca is the best thing in life! but you are one of those who prefer boring beaches and tan like shrimp.

😂 Not quite, but like I said, I've dealt with jungles, hills and mountains before.

Peru will always be my favorite country to travel to!
Best country in South America to visit! Great people there too who like Americans. I went there twice in 2010 and 2019, and got around in a rental car. The driving there can get crazy in town, but I highly recommend it. I last did Huarez, Arequipa, Colca Canyon, and went boating on Lake Titicaca. I skipped Machu Picchu. I was as high as 16,200 ft and never had any problems with altitude and I never got sick!
Peru (especially the Peruvian coast) is crucial when it comes to understanding phenomena like ENSO, LA-NINA & EL-NINO.
