I've had the SE215s for a couple weeks now. They were super uncomfortable and kept falling out of my ears. I clicked on a few reviews so I could see what they had to say about it (and also so that I could agree with the part where they call them the most uncomfortable pieces of shit ever), until I realised that I was wearing them the wrong way. I was putting them directly into my ears, not over them.
Feel like an idiot, but at the same time relieved that I can ear them properly

I own the Shure SE 215 and I use it for professional monitoring my outdoors video productions.
The isolation is perfect, it fits firmly and comfortably in my ears and give me the mobility I need to make fast movements when I'm recording.
The sound quality is great with a good balance between bass, mid and treble.
In my opinion, a very satisfying investment for $99,00!

  • @AdamNevard
    @AdamNevard 9 лет назад +151

Lots of the problems you mentioned with the Shures are actually also pros, like the wire being thicker and the 3.5mm jack being bulkier. No one wants to buy $99 earphones that break after 2 weeks. I personally own a pair of se 215's and I don't think I could ever go back to earphones that aren't over ear and have amazing sound isolation.

I own the momentum and they are amazing for edm. They're impressive for rock, pop, country and trance. The fit is one issue I had, they tend to loose out with extended hours of listening, and needs to be refixed in the ear. It does have a burn in period, mine took around a week before it started sounding amazing as it is. Overall a very nice pair of earbuds.

Well i've had this current pair for about 2 1/2 years now, frequent daily use. I have noticed no buzzing or decrease in quality since. I switched out the stock cable with the UE900 replacement cable, that lasted for about 2 years for me, then bought another $20 replacement cable. The fit is perfect. You get used to putting them in and taking them out and get fast at it. Super comfortable when you have them in, no noises while the cable is touching or being tugged. (UE900 cable) There's literally no other earbuds i want to switch to, i used to have klipsch, but none of them came close to lasting an eighth as long as these and the over the ear fit is amazing. Also, the stock cable is WAY TOO LONG. But the replacement is perfect length (And Braided in super light material.)

The only thing I don't love is the extreme hig end gets a little weird. But for the price you can't expect utter perfection. Physically, I absolutley love the cable as it's very robust and strong, and inspires much more confidence than the cables you typically see with most headphones.

In case, you're watching in 2019 and can't decide between the two. I had the Momentums for 2 years (which is quiet long, considering how damn thinn the cable was and that they already a crack in it after a few months, yet still somehow worked for qiuet a long time). They sounded really good. I had to really work on the EQ-App untill i got it right, but it worked out very well. However, they never really fitted well in my ear and they would always fall out my ear, so everywhere i walked with them, you would see me pushing one of the ear pieces back in place, which sucked, but i got used to it quickly. BUT, now i am getting the se215, because nowdays they come with a new cable, which finally isn't as thick as the last one AND has a remote controll. Keep in mind that the price for them also didn't change over time, so i guess they are a better deal then the Sennheisers these days.

The Momentum's are real nice. I've had mine for 6 months, and i've been careful when using them, however the cable end has already broken - the sound is dropping in out of the left and right ear. Seems to be quite a common issue with the Momentum's build quality/durability

Excellent video! Only thing, Shure are in-ear monitors, for playing music/mixing/music related, Senheiser are just earphones (even has mic & controls). I know they've being compared because of the price, but they're different things

The Shure have almost no bass, and a smaller overall frequency response vs. the Momentums. I personally think they Sennheisers have more of a 'live' sound to them.

Well, I never actually have all of them together, just have the Momentum. But I've some audio session with all of them. Momentum so far is one of those brands with a good durability & lifelong. I can give ideas with any other aspect except that durability, but I think they're all quite on par regarding durability.

I like the profesional look and design of the shure se215s more than the styling of the momentum's. The fact that theres no profile with the shures is really nice when your laying down, also i really like the way that they wrap over your ear i've never had the fall out before. Plus the removable cable is a nice touch because you can replace the earpieces seperately.

Something I'd love to see you guys touch on in IEM reviews is gaming. Obviously no IEM is made for gaming (I'm sure there's a few marketed that way, but bleh), but it would honestly be a factor for me, especially if there was a pair of IEM's that had an in line mic that also gave a good enough positional audio for me to use for Counter Strike. I think covering gaming in this sort of video would also help gamers that use laptops, as I don't see anybody lugging their headset to college with them just to play a few games on their lunch hour, but your earbuds can go everywhere!

Since i last commented, i ended up getting the Sennheiser Momentum. They are more highly rated by tech / audiophile reviews than the Shure earphones, and they were on deal on amazon (also Shure didn't seem to have any warranty either, as Amazon was only selling them via a 3rd party seller).
I am rather pleased with the sound quality. The bass response is what amazes me most. I can play tracks with 30-40hz sub fine. Not even my old KRK studio monitors could handle that. Weird how earphones have that advantage if built well (i think its because they are directly in your ear cavity, which helps make it easier to pick up bass tones).
Sound isolation is pretty good. I have a feeling Shure would have the advantage on this though. They do seem to boast about it more than Sennheiser do.
I kinda wish the momentums were built like Shure's. They are still susceptible to falling out the ear gradually. I'd rather have that reliability of knowing the earphones were fixed in place like shures "round the ear" style. i mean, i found the large ear tips to fit fine with a little adjustment, but they do sometimes slowly slip out of place (compromising bass and sound quality, so you have to readjust them snug back in your ear again). They might be slightly too big for my ears, but they are definitely the best fit out of whats given. .
Anyhow, i do wonder what the Shure's se215 sound like in comparison. Apparently they have a warmer sound, but slightly lower overall sound quality and not as low bass response (just warmer where it can reach). I'm not sure if that's what i'm after, but i'm not an audiophile. Ideally sound quality is important, but it's hard to overstate how important having them be convenient (i.e. fit in your ear more snugly) is. So that's what i wonder what it would have been like if i got the Shure instead, but eh, apparently what i have is even better in terms of sound quality so can't complain. They are good! And i got them on a pretty good discount, so no regrets!

I, along with some friends recently bought some headphones to compare. All of them in or around the $100 price range. We got the Momentums, the Shure SE215, the Beyerdynamic DX 120 ie, the Bose SoundSport (using the ear tips from the Soundtrue Ultra), and the Audio Technica ATH-e40. We had some disagreement on the ranking, but all agreed that the worst were the Shure (lacked bass, the S's and F's were a pain, not much body in the music) and the Bose Soundsport (with the Soundtrue Ultra ear tips) was ranked the best. We were not biased in any way and simply wanted to see (or hear) which ones were the best.

i go through earbuds pretty quickly because i use them when i take calls from work on the road when i switch from my music to people calling, working out at the gym, going out on walks with my soundtrack playing or whatever. Because of how expensive earbuds can get, i make sure the cables themselves have some sort of extra jackets or knit around them so they will last longer.

I know this is late but the shure earphones were designed for musicians as a budget option for higher end IEMs. That's why it has no mic, it messes up the connection when plugging into an adapter that plugs into the headphone distributor (or avioms). Also explains the heavy-duty build that it has. It's not meant for gym and other normal uses but it definitely can be used for such! Hoping to cop this soon.

I So wish Shure made the Se215's and other SE models with an inline control with tracks skip, volume, pause play etc!! The headphones sound amazing, and as a professional musician i've used them on stage and off many times. I cannot use them for the gym though as it's not practical without an inline control for my requirements. :( :(
I had to send 2 pairs of the in-ear Momentums back to Amazon because of the same fault developing after just a few hours of use- a constant clicking sound in the left bud, and whilst the sound was overall very good, (I like loudness, with a balanced clear frequency response that leads more towards the bassy bottom end) even despite the bad experience with getting two faulty sets in a row, I thought they were over priced at about £80 at time of purchase.
The design and shape of the buds are fairly big and are not that easy to get to sit in your ears I found.
The Shures are the way to go if you're not fussed about an inline control.

I ended up going for the Sennheisers. I use them on my phone so the cable controls are important to me and as I'm out and about, often cycling, the complete sound isolation of the Shures isn't practical.

Shure SE215 are the best earphones i ever had. Impeccable sound quality. Typing this while listening to "vente pa ca" using Shure.

What do you guys recommend between this two? I'm considering the Shure, although hesitant because of the durability issues.

Any chance you get your hands on the V-Moda M100? I'd love to hear what you guys think about 'em, before I buy 'em.
