Im 23 years old. Most of the peolpe my age have no clue music like this even exsists. But everyday i try to show a new person SRV. and every person looks at me stunned at the magic the he had whether he was singing or he was playing. the man was magical. he can make a man cry with the passion he put into his music. Stevie can never be matched by any one. PURE LEGEND.
Look at his face, look at his emotion.. He isn't on stage to whore out his image... He's up there to release his soul and his talent and his passion.... SRV, Life Without You has been shit.
+quincywho that's really true :) he's always played to make happy the listeners...... but at the same time because he really felt what he played. greetings :)
SRV is the only man who can make me tear up just from his playing. There are a lot of great players, but I've never seen someone else play with that much raw emotion and passion.
I couldn't even begin to guess how many times I have heard this song in my life. And, I have absolutely no clue how many times I have practiced playing along to this song, over and over and over, each time rewinding the cassette back to the start of the song. It was the last song on the Soul to Soul album, so I had to stop rewinding just at the right spot. I may have played that song along with Stevie in my bedroom maybe a thousand times, and I am not joking a bit, as my black Squier Stratocaster (my first electric guitar) sung through an original green Tube Screamer, into my small Fender amp. I was pretty damn good, but there were notes in there I new I could never get. Nobody but him could. Now, somewhere around 25 years later, I find myself here listening to a version of this song I have never heard before, and I'm shocked to now know this existed. Hearing his words in the middle of this song made me speechless. Although he died in quite a tragic way, his life will never be forgotten. Thank you Stevie for being such a huge part of my life, even though we never even met face to face. Every time I pick up my Stratocaster, which is still almost every single day, no matter what it is that I try to play I hear your lessons in whatever I do. I am simply one of millions. A speck in a big, huge world. Insignificant. But, I know where my roots came from. Always. I'd say your life was quite amazing if you ask me, because my children now hear me playing the notes you taught me, and you and I have never even met.
I've listened to this song so many times. I've had this week a love for over 35 got in touch with me. I was scared and he was to to say I love you. He said he did but he played guitar and harmonica and sounded like Neal Young. Life is so short so take my advice. If you're scared of what you might be afraid to here don't let it pass you by. Love you Stevie for this awesome song. God bless you and hope you're playing in heaven because you were so awesome.
God damn every time I listen to this song it nearly brings tears to my eyes, sometimes it even does. Just so unfair that he is gone, such raw pure talent.. so desperately needed right now more than ever before. Makes me appreciate him that much more. Amazing man, amaaazing musician. Beautiful song in every way.
Cosmic Cora. Four years later, I say ditto that! I can't listen without tears. You're right, we could really need him around now. We need his message so much!
bluescoloredmusic 😂😂😂 I always jam with him up unto the solo part then I put my guitar down and listen, sometimes that comes out and your comment made me laugh
I was really drunk a few weeks ago and I clicked this and by the end of the song I was bawling. It's really strange how this song kind of foretold the future in a way.. 'Tell me how have you been, we have all missed you, and the way you grin. The day is necessary every now and then for souls to move on, givin life back again and again." I think we can all agree.. SRV, you know what really sucks? Life without you.
Stevie talks about loving + living. That you can't love + care for somebody, if you can't do that for yourself + that drugs destroy you even more, cause they make you not care for yourself + life. The song is much about addiction + not being AWARE + HERE + its negative effect on life and all. And that there's sooo much precious to loose in this big world + life, that we have to respect + care, to make love + life possible + not loose it. The opposite way is a 'dead end road'. AND SO IT IS!
I'm 44, once I was playing some Buddy Holly(Peggy Sue),Ritchie Valen (Sleepwalk) on a Jukebox at a Mc Donalds. 2 "old" people came up to me and asked how I knew those songs? I said, "Good music will never stop being good!" Baker, your probably "a head of your time" and thats a good thing.
I'm not going to whine about how I wish I was born earlier. I'm going to thankful for all the technology and people that make us share this music because I'd be missing a lot of what I listen to right now if we weren't where we are today.
I saw him at my first Jazz Fest in N.O. But this song held significance when my husband committed suicide. He was mentally ill--Schizophrenia--. When I made our son a scrapbook of his father's life, the last page was the last pic of him and his daddy--they were sharing a kiss and i put the day of his passing and at the bottom, " All The Love YOU Passed our Way" This song comforted me many a night!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
to every guitar player/songwriter....ask yourself if u have ever heard a better anything better. I don't care if u like blues, metal, country, pop, or whatever it may be, this is music at its best. the greatest to ever hold a guitar. SRV
This will always be my song for my Fiance that passed away unexpectedly in May of 2009. He was the kindest sweetest man I ever met! Fly high Sweetheart, until I see you again. JSH 1963-2009
I have Gastric Cancer in Stage 4 & I want this song played @ my Memorial Service when I leave this world. God Bless Stevie Ray & all his great music that has gotten us thru sum very hard times.
This is a sing for everyone- anyone that has dealt with any-kind of addiction - anyone who has passed our way and we remember them; for anyone who is here alive and well to remember and keep your prospective as you go forward in your life. Thank you Stevie- for passing our way! .
I've listened to this song for years. But when you see SRV perform live he gives you everything. We know his skills with the guitar and he can sing his ass off........but the fact that he holds nothing back is priceless. matter of fact I'm gonna blast this song at work next week.
this song was played at my mothers funeral i remember meeting him and his brother and mother and i was hooked proud to say he came out of my home hometown oak cliff {dallas} area just makes my think bout my mother every time i hear it love you srv keep THE REAL MUSIC ALIVE
Incomparable. The guitar is an extension of him. He was truly an open channel for the music....there will never be another like him. His brilliance defies words. RIP SRV.
I'm going to eternally dedicate this song to my stepson David Stone Stevie Ray Vaughan was his favorite musical artist. The song to me just touches my heart.
I am mad! We so often look too those who were great singers and musicians, who ended there lives due to drugs or alcohol. SRV, overcame that. He became better! Yet, he is never spoken off. People need to wake up and realize how amazing this man was!!
I think he touches peoples lives in death the same as he did alive when and where they are suppose to be touched by his greatness. I agree with you Edward Mynning I just can't be mad about it I don't think Stevie would want us feeling mad, anger or hate. I can say I'm sad I never got to see him live while he was here but what an awesome legacy he left for us all to enjoy and pass on, even my 9 month old grandson watches his videos with me and can't take his eyes off the screen.
Thank you SO much for ensuring Stevie's, and music like his, will live. Because you are turning on your grandchild, a younger generation, to a music form that is pure emotion and feelings and real life. Peace to all.
When i leave this world. i hope to see every one of my loved ones who've passed away, firstly my mom who will be gone 4 years June 4 2015 and hopefully get to play music with my favorite musicians whove passed aswell. one being Stevie. ive always wanted to meet him but i was born 5 years too late. Stevie, you are an inspiration as a person an as a musician. You and Lennon were right. we need to stop the hate, give peace a chance and love one another as humans. RIP SRV and John. forever missed, never forgotten.
Hey Stevie, I'm dedicating life without you to my best friends grandma that's unfortunately passed away from old age thank you for letting me dedicate this to my best friends grandma RIP. we miss you Stevie! Ya live on 👼👼👼
what a beautiful sentiment! I lost my father, right about a year before Stevie's death, and I met Stevie, I was just a kid then, and told him how much I loved this song, and Stevie took me in like I was his kid brother, about a year later, I cried a river of tears at his passing, he was a lovely human being, and imparted a lot of information on a kid facing the death of daddy, I miss him, both of them.
I love that he played the song just as recorded. It shows how deliberate it was but it never loses it's emotion. This song, the sky and everyone there watching him is magic. Life without YOU SRV looms larger and larger every year.
I'm continually awe struck by his playing, even after so many years oflistening to him play. I get an indescribable pit in my stomach with joy and sadness mixed together every time I see him play. He plays with such passion, that I feel that he's playing his song for me for the very first time. I listen to the blues and play me guitar because of this man, what an impact he's had on so many people.
Dedicated to my mother. She will never know how much I love her. Please enjoy this song on behalf of all our Mothers or great people that we owe our lives to. Peace my brothers and sisters!!!
I saw this tour among a few others and even though my heart breaks that Stevie Ray is gone, my heart is filled with happiness that we had him at all. Don't be sad He's not here; be happy He passed our way...
Stevie Ray Vaughan the singing and blue's and rock he is..we all get caught up in the high looks at life but..only for pain and agony to set in after a time if u make it through it that long a time to feel the effects of your mistake..either way..Stevie made it to fix his problem and he did with Gods amazing help..Stevie went through alot of what others are going through now..RIP
"Life Without You" Well hello baby, Tell me, How have you been? We all have missed you, And the way you grin The day is necessary, Every now and then For souls to move on, Given life back again Fly on, Fly on, Fly on my friend Go on, Go on and live again, Love again Cause day after day, Night after night Sittin' here singin', every, every minute As the years go passin' by, by, by, by A long look in the mirror, We come face to face Wishin' our love we took for granted A love we had yesterday, Cause Life Without You All the love, you've passed our way Angels have waited, for so long Now they have their way Take your place....
Laurylie Polito Thanks for including the lyrics...one if the few who got them right and say way you grin. The lyric version says way you been....looses so much just that one word change. Thanks for taking the time to write them here in the comments.
Everytime when i hear this and many other songs from Stevie, i get goosebumps and tears. He is a gift for the world and we can open it every time we want. I hope that an afterlife really exists! There we can hear him again.
I think Buddy Guy said: a lot of people can play a note and you hear it. When Stevie played a note it would tear through you like a bullet and come out the other side covered in blood and memories. (Truth).
Anyone else have the best memories of them and their fathers listening to this song while the rain comes down an just sitting on the front porch of the house... no? just me? am I crying right now? Absolutely not....
I cried when he died and I cried when John Bonham died. I'm fortunate to have seen Stevie Ray - best guitarist I ever saw live.. God Bless and R.I.P Stevie
This is an amazing performance with an inspiring testimonial thrown in. While we may not fight the same demons that Stevie Ray did, we fight demons of our own. He gave the the music industry something it desperately was lacking, unrestrained passion. I recall another great blues legend said that he was like an open channel and that the music seemed to just flow through him. I still remember the spot that I was standing in when I heard of his death. I miss him.
Stevie was one of the greatest, not only as a singer, but as a roll model. Stevie beat drugs and booze. He was on his way back. Living life in a straight line. Till god called him back home.. R.I.P. Bro
This song for me makes everything go away. There is just something about a "blues love song" that can sooth your soul. This man poored his soul into his guitar and blues and his wife. Thank God for strong women as Stevie's wife was the cause for his God Given Sobriety. God Bless You woman!
It's easy and hard to watch this, but I watch it over and over. Easy cause you forget he's gone when he rips the lead and takes you away. Hard when you crash to reality and remember he's gone. Love it.
saw him live in 1988 when I was 16... my older brother snuck me into a small club in PHiladelphia......that was my musical turning point... this song was unbelievable live. still listening to SRV almost everyday. I never met the man, but I defintely felt like he was a good friend, and when he died, it was a great loss.
It takes guts to share a weakness with someone else, or in this case, a huge crowd of fans. SRV was talented in many ways. His tragic passing will be 22 years ago in just a few days. It blows my mind. Still miss him.
If you have ever picked up a guitar and tried to convey a feeling, emotion, or something you just can't define in words, then you know the power and majesty of this kind of art. A lot of them had it, Hendrix, SRV, Duane, Gibbons, etc. The list goes on. It's magic to me, and the road goes on forever.....
Amen Brother! And I'm 46. Lucky enough to meet him, work with him on his last music video, spend a special moment after one of his shows. Great guy. Great Band Members. Sadly missed but NEVER FORGOTTEN!.
this will always be one of my all time favorite performances of SRV everything he says around 5 min. is just so true and touching. He is honestly the PERFECT role model, he is one of the few famous people who was open about his drug/alcohol addiction, had a breakdown & recovered, & shined even brighter once he was clean. it boggles my mind to even imagine what else he would of accomplished in this lifetime and what other amazing music he would of produced.
NOTHING EVER TRULY DIES!!!!! THIS MANS MUSIC AND SOUL WILL SHINE ON FOREVER!!!!! THANK YOU STEVIE FOR YOUR MUSIC, AND ALL THE LOVE YOU PASSED MY WAY!!!!! GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU!!!! PEACE!!!
every fuc*ing bend, every vibrato, every single note is perfect; Never seen a perfomance that flawless; and top of that; man, does it speak to the soul...
Been listening to him for feels like forever - hopefully forever goes on - had tix to Alpine Valley, had to work - best buddy went, said it was the best concert ever. Stevie will go on forever, in our hearts, our minds, and our souls. That's the way he would have wanted it. RIP Stevie, but knowing you, you've got your fingers on the strings in the sky. God bless.
For My Beautiful Aunt Sara; who taught me to love with my soul, always follow my heart, dance like nobody's watching, take the road less traveled and not care what anyone thinks. It's been four and a half years, I love and miss you with all the pieces of my heart... this world isn't the same without you. Happy Mother's Day 💖💕💞
The whole guitar was custom made for Stevie by his good friend Charley Wirz who started Charley's guitar shop in Dallas TX 1976. The pickups were a lipstick style hand wound by Charley. Charley passed away in 1985, and Stevie wrote this song in his memory, and to my knowledge, played this guitar whenever he played the song.
Stevie allways had his core fans and loyal they were and still are. But Stevie was really getting into the main stream when he passed. Many more were starting to get into his type of rock and roll blues. To me , he was the greatest guitar player of all time. But I knew Stevie, through the bad times and than the good times. I guess I should have said, he would have changed it even more....miss ya bud
shook this mans hand twice ('85,'89) and short conversation,, never forget it. It hard to think of the music we've missed. RIP Stevie... See you on the other side.
a good friend of mines brother just passed away, among more than a couple of people i have been somehow connected to in the last couple years who have died unexpectedly, and I always find that this song, and listening to Stevie talk really helps out..something comforting and uplifting about it..To all those who take off before their time and those who see life out til the end, enjoy whatever ride comes after this one, and make sure you catch Stevie in concert where ever you all might be
This makes me want to cry... Life without you is harder, Stevie. I think we all need someone to put into words and music they way we're feeling inside sometimes.
my all-time favorite concert moment of all time was during this song in 1987 when he played my hometown. me and my friends were in the third row close enough that he looked our way nodded and smiled right at us several times because we were going nuts. at the end of his speech when he hit that long high note it seemed to ring out forever and then some...i felt like i died and was born in the same moment. not a dry eye in the house. will never ever forget that or him.
John mayer is definitely inspired by him I can hear it in some moment in his solo. SRV is the greatest guitarist in the history for me. When he plays he speaks to my heart directly no one can do that
I will always be grateful for your message Stevie Ray you touched me back in ny city at the pear.i was front stage looking at you drunk and you looked at me and smiled:) it bin 26 one day at a time years know by the grace of God i know he was speaking though you that night to me:-) rest my brother your message still lives on. :-)
Completely blows me away every time. I can only imagine what this guy had left to give to the world with his amazing talent and his lessons. The world truly lost something special all those years ago....
20 years and we still miss you Stevie. ¨Are you with me¨??? I was, am and will always be with you. That part makes me want to cry everytime The sky was crying but now it´s smiling :)
If you have ever picked up a guitar and tried to convey a feeling, emotion, or something you just can't define in words, then you know the power and majesty of this kind of art. without john mayer a lot of young guitar players will never hear about SRV, like me. I think that both of these great players deserve their place in history. also, music is not a competition about who is better, is just a way to show your feelings. peace and sorry for my poor english.
No matter how many times you listen to it.......... how many times you cry..........it is and always will be one of the top heartwrenching blues epic ballads of all time. No one before or since......
The ONLY man who can give a sermon without making an Atheist like me feel uncomfortable. Big loss for this world. RIP STEVIE!!!

There's your Jesus....
quincywho To say the least... He was truly gifted. No one's ever come even close to his playing. That can not happen.
SRV is the only man who can make me tear up just from his playing. There are a lot of great players, but I've never seen someone else play with that much raw emotion and passion.
So much this! Well said nick my dude!

Such PASSION... so much INTENSITY and FEELING in his playing. We miss him, he left us WAY too early. R.I.P. Stevie.
I'm not even that religious but SRV makes me feel God every time.
God gives us a few to keep us straight if we pay attention. What a loss we god called him back.

Still Lovin SRV in 2021, my all time favorite Video of this Song!!!

I Thank God every time that brother SRV was a child of his and he Blessed us all with the music he gave to Steve!! GBY!! RIP!! Brother Vaughn!!!
One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.
This makes me cry every time I hear it. Just beautiful.
I had the privilege of seeing stevie six months before his tragic death awesome show will never forget it!!!
GREATEST OF ALL TIME STEVIE RAY N DOUBLE TROUBLE I GUARANTEE IT
So much awesomeness. RIP Stevie. No one can ever hold a candle to you baby.
Happy 60th Birthday, baby. Your light still shines.
Every Cord. Every Riff. Exuded Straight from the Soul.
Rest in peace my legendary friend love you always
"Life Without You"
Well hello baby, Tell me, How have you been?
We all have missed you, And the way you grin
The day is necessary, Every now and then
For souls to move on, Given life back again
Fly on, Fly on, Fly on my friend
Go on, Go on and live again, Love again
Cause day after day, Night after night
Sittin' here singin', every, every minute
As the years go passin' by, by, by, by
A long look in the mirror, We come face to face
Wishin' our love we took for granted
A love we had yesterday, Cause Life Without You
All the love, you've passed our way
Angels have waited, for so long
Now they have their way
Take your place....
Laurylie Polito Thanks for including the lyrics...one if the few who got them right and say way you grin. The lyric version says way you been....looses so much just that one word change. Thanks for taking the time to write them here in the comments.
oh man i miss him...he played with so much passion and his words are true...they are experience...
rip stevie!
May you live on forever stevie...........i cant wait to get to heaven and shake your hand...................
Stevie Ray Vaughan a music legend ..RIP
Everytime when i hear this and many other songs from Stevie, i get goosebumps and tears.
He is a gift for the world and we can open it every time we want.
I hope that an afterlife really exists!
There we can hear him again.
I don't know how many times I've watched/listened to this masterpiece. I will til the day I die.
I think Buddy Guy said: a lot of people can play a note and you hear it. When Stevie played a note it would tear through you like a bullet and come out the other side covered in blood and memories. (Truth).
Wish more musicians were this honest and passionate. Legend.
we need the love!!!! rip stevie and thank you for all the love you giving us and all you're great music !!!
R.I.P. Bro
Beautiful person & my favorite musician of all time
I was there this night. SRV killed it. One of my best concert memories of all time
Where was this at? When?
This song for me makes everything go away. There is just something about a "blues love song" that can sooth your soul. This man poored his soul into his guitar and blues and his wife. Thank God for strong women as Stevie's wife was the cause for his God Given Sobriety. God Bless You woman!
I miss you so much Stevie Ray Vaughan, no one has come close to filling your shoes , no one .
PEACE!!!
every fuc*ing bend, every vibrato, every single note is perfect; Never seen a perfomance that flawless; and top of that; man, does it speak to the soul...
i get a chill up my spine at 6:20 every time. he was absolutely unreal
God bless.
For My Beautiful Aunt Sara;
who taught me to love with my soul, always follow my heart, dance like nobody's watching, take the road less traveled and not care what anyone thinks. It's been four and a half years, I love and miss you with all the pieces of my heart...
this world isn't the same without you. Happy Mother's Day 💖💕💞
This has been one of my favorite songs since I was a child. You've gotta love Stevie's music (and his style!); R.I.P.
nobody ever played with more feeling than this man, even jimmy was a step behind, very small step. this is just amazing
Pray For Me, Stevie....God knows I need it....Love Ya ;-)
shook this mans hand twice ('85,'89) and short conversation,, never forget it.
The best. True.soul to soul bro
my all-time favorite concert moment of all time was during this song in 1987 when he played my hometown. me and my friends were in the third row close enough that he looked our way nodded and smiled right at us several times because we were going nuts. at the end of his speech when he hit that long high note it seemed to ring out forever and then some...i felt like i died and was born in the same moment. not a dry eye in the house. will never ever forget that or him.
That part makes me want to cry everytime
The sky was crying but now it´s smiling :)

without john mayer a lot of young guitar players will never hear about SRV, like me. I think that both of these great players deserve their place in history. also, music is not a competition about who is better, is just a way to show your feelings. peace and sorry for my poor english.
