Ari Aronowitz I wouldn't go that far but it does remind me a lot of covered in Rain from live in birmingham. It's very clear where his influence comes from though
Truly inspirational.... for him to speak out against drugs and drinking and comeback afterwards and play this well. Much respect to the greatest guiartist of ALL time.
Susan layton. May our Almighty Creator draw you near to Him...for He loves you. Strength and peace to you. Through Jesus the Messiah who is coming for those who await His glorious appearing, Titus 2:13
I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance...This verse has always reminded me of Stevie Rays sobriety.
Anyone that can watch this, Lenny or riviera paradise and still say that Stevie was just a blues guitar player has lost their marbles. He was a Swiss Army knife. He could play anything.
Stevie was always one of my father's absolute favorites, and as a child, I never really appreciated the music or understood. Now, more than 6 years later and 4 years after my father's passing, I've stumbled across this song and all I can say is that it hits me like a train. Incredible musicianship, and an incredible person.
I got told at a very young age, 14 to be exact "let that guitar be your drug of choice" and it has been and it always will be. Cuz playing guitar too much won't kill you but not playing guitar enough will.
David Yep most definitely The older I get ,43 now, the more I think and the more I try to master my guitar, the more I realize he was a force of nature It is just unbelievable good ✌️
Probably the best guitar solo and defiantly best guitar player. Jimi may have been an innovator for rock but stevie took his songs and riffs to the next level. (I know this isnt a Jimi song)
This is very reminiscent of John Mayer live at Nokia- bold as love speech. Both give a personal message in the middle of the song and go straight to the solo section/outro. Just shows how much of an admirer John was of Stevie he must’ve watched this concert a thousand times.
The greatest guitar player who ever lived in my opinion. To see him clean and happy is such a blessing. He was taken way to soon. Long live Stevie Ray Vaughn
SRV never aimed for any tone or note he struck! The changing you make referance to is to enable him to hit the note he wanted. I never saw SRV search for a note on stage in my life.
I've looked for this performance for years after seeing a blip of it on a Stevie documentary. When you think about what this song's really about, and the intensity in which he performs it, i cant help but tear up. Greatness lost too soon. UPDATE: the documentary I spoke of was from VH1 Legends. It is really great ruclips.net/video/EsmqWlIZWRY/видео.html This clip is at the 27:30 mark..
Made me tear up too. I'm almost 2 years free from a decade heroin addiction myself. Wish I could've been there live but I would've only been 2 so......
"Angels have waited for so long... now they have their way." Too true, and a truly inspirational song and message: take care of yourself so you can be there for others.
When the person that designed the guitar back in the day was finished they thought of someone one fine day being able to play it like this...He said "and his name will be Stevie Ray Vaughan" amen...
I love it...I was here at this concert on the River Boat President...and I'll never forget this performance or Stevie Ray Vaughan...or that faithful day on August 27th, 1990... :(
Greatest performance ever. No one today can even come close to Stevie. Full of heart and soul. A true guitar hero and the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be!!!
The whole band was tight. The musicians in double trouble are some of the most highly regarded blues artists till this day on their respective instruments and they tour currently with Mayer, Bonomassa, Buddy Guy, etc
While yes this is one of my favorite speeches and identical solos to match said speech ever made or improvised ever period. I don't think anyone has ever just stopped everything to spread such a deep and emotional message whilst keeping perfect time and continue to improv from muscle memory and pacing his speech with the songs tempo down to the point that literally even when he pauses to compose his next words or sentence, he always starts talking and comes in on the back beat of the snare edge tap, every single time that I can tell exactly without fail. Crazy. But also the more and more and more I hear this specific performance. I get this sinking feeling or pit in my gut that feels sad because I'm beginning to believe and come to what I think to be the sense, that really honestly, that night at least. He specifically stopped and felt compelled to share his words not just because of his own experiences personally with drugs especially having been sober by now in this one. But that really that message, the heart or core of the message was likely birthed out of and came from deep within stevie about after getting sober himself, how leonora(lenny)'s usage of drugs and substances and general addiction struggles was reaching such a point that stevie I don't think really felt truly loved by her anymore. Not how he should've been at least, obviously we all fall short no matter what. But lenny really honestly didn't try very hard to stay sober for stevie after stevie got sober and had struggled so damn badly.... which with drugs BTW is extremely common for one to develope an unnoticeable to themselves tendency or trait to become extremely apathetic and just be filled with utter and complete apathy. And I believe that's where lenny was before stevie decided for the sake of his career, life, sobriety, and health, everything more or less that he HAD to leave her as much as he didn't want to. I don't care who you are if the relationship goes or last over or longer than 2 and half to 3 years.... that's a LONGGG time in ANYBODIES book if you ask me. Or at least it ought to be thought that. Fuck, that's literally if called 3 years, literally an entire 1/5th of my lifetime. Like damn, that's awhile. Of course 3 years won't feel as long to someone 3 times my age. A 75 year old likely would feel like 3 years was approximately 3 times less short passing by to their own perception comparatively to my own given the lack and limitation of full life experience. But yea I just feel he was REALLY REALLY REALLY talking, thinking, and pouring his heart out about how he felt about lenny at that moment. And how he felt she was running away from him now he was sober and wanted to show her more love and feelings and kindness to which her still using, couldn't stand due to the apathetic nature of most substances. Especially coke and alcohol, both of which I believe lenny struggled a lot with. If I remember correct I think she died of an overdose not too long after stevie died in the crash. And how it's like he was able to suddenly see a direct mirror image reflection of himself and how he had been towards her emotionally and general treatment wise and how he would run from her love before it'd burned out like I believe it probably already had at this point, anytime she'd actually show it or express it to him.
There is a version of this song, live of In Step.... he pretty much does what he does at 3:25, but its much longer, and he just slams it against you. This song, and what he says in it is so true, that you actually need to be there for the ones who need you and love you the most. Thanks, Stevie. You just did such an awesome job saying it how it really needed to be said. Hearing these words..... how could you not agree with what he is saying here?
Just listening to all of his soul and his message and looking at these comments. It amazes me how one man with one message can bring forth so much loveand thankfullness. I wasn't alive when he died but I listen to his music everyday and I think his music and his person are just incredible. He is my hero i never met. RIP SRV. 1 of the greatest guitarists ever.
God bless srv right up there with the legend Hendrix it's weird since his death there hasn't been a guitar player that has impact or come close to what this man did he had the voice god given talent to plat the guitar rock n roll heaven brother we miss srv
I just want to cry. He finally found what he was looking for and shared with us. Then, we lost him because a helicopter pilot without a license to fly in bad weather or use instrumentation flew right into a hill. So, stupid, so useless and unnecessary. RIP Stevie. We know you’re looking out for us.
"make you run from love-because you can't stand how good it looks'. Been there and am grateful to God that He helped my out of that situation. He gives us so much and He gave it to SRV to proclaim it through this wonderful song. Run to to love people!
Never noticed it before but at about 1:42 ish he is continually changing his tone 5 way selector and volume controls...I wonder what tones he is aiming for, and why he wanted each tone for each line he changed them for?! The most noticeable change in tone is where he uses the 5 way selector starts at neck, 1:45 middle, and 1:54 back to neck, which is the biggest tone change I could hear!!!!
The best gutair player I ever saw, he was the total package, showman, tremendous player who attacked with passion, u felt it when he played, loved and respected the great blues players he learned from and I always felt he appreciated those that loved his music. Will never stop listening to his music! Play on my friend, u made and still make my life a beautiful experience, as your music has touched my soul, Thank you!
@chaosofscotty Thats the thing, what is cool about these kinds of movies like I Walk the Line and Charles is that the actors actually sung and played their instruments. This gave these movies a really authentic feel to them. My only concern of a movie about SRV is how is the person playing him suppose to match his guitar playing prowess. its impossible. But i still feel like it would be a great movie, as in a lot of ways SRV's life is very similar to Ray Charles and Johnny Cash.
Life without you is to SRV just as Little Wing was to Hendrix. Cool similarities: both songs end with the final words being the song title. Both songs also end with a bangin' solo for an outro and fades out...
lol back to middle and at about 2:00 I don't know if he swiped it on accident or super multitask-ed it, but in a fast swip he puts it back into neck... :^O
Huh..? The whole first verse is missing. (Hello Baby, tell me how have you been. We all have missed you and the way you grin, the day is necessary every now and then for souls to move on giving life back again. Fly on fly on fly on my friend,go on your way, live again love again)..Never saw this. Most of you don’t even realize there is a first verse I bet...lol. Still SRV but damn.
The guitar solo after he is done talking is one of the greatest things my mind has ever heard.
goosebumps every time
JOHN MAYER COPIED IT KINDA IN WHERE THE LIGHT IS OMG
Ari Aronowitz I wouldn't go that far but it does remind me a lot of covered in Rain from live in birmingham. It's very clear where his influence comes from though
jack kunze tears every time!
32a34a Amen
Truly inspirational.... for him to speak out against drugs and drinking and comeback afterwards and play this well. Much respect to the greatest guiartist of ALL time.
God cleaned him up & took him home!! the Very Best of The Best!!! love & peace Stevie!!
This is a person who has found the light, and exploding with love. BEAUTIFUL.
i listen to the speech at least one a week
susan layton speech saved my life, that’s speaking straight from his heart and soul.
Me too. Lost my mom to drug abuse. This song brings me to tears.
Between his technical skill and soul, he is the greatest guitarist ever in my opinion. With Hendrix being a close second.
Hendrix was the innovator...and that makes him a timeless genius. SRV stood on the shoulders of a giant and became a virtuoso.
And that TONE. Sounds like the soundtrack of the second coming.
hendrix was more creative, stevie was more technical
Can't we just love them both?
It's like comparing your two kids. You love em both for who THEY are.
Anyone that can watch this, Lenny or riviera paradise and still say that Stevie was just a blues guitar player has lost their marbles. He was a Swiss Army knife. He could play anything.
This is one of the best cuts ever ... God let him crash , then Stevie Ray came to know Him, and now he is in Gods glory ... A beautiful thing 💭
Stevie was always one of my father's absolute favorites, and as a child, I never really appreciated the music or understood. Now, more than 6 years later and 4 years after my father's passing, I've stumbled across this song and all I can say is that it hits me like a train. Rachel Ewald
Your father was right😉
Nice that you have found his love ......thrue Stevie ✌️✌️✌️
He was all done here on earth. God called him home and he went. His journey was complete
I got told at a very young age, 14 to be exact "let that guitar be your drug of choice" and it has been and it always will be. Cuz playing guitar too much won't kill you but not playing guitar enough will.
I love those little bass licks while he was talking
omg-- a total over the top shooting star , he is way beyond just a guitar player
David
Yep most definitely
The older I get ,43 now, the more I think and the more I try to master my guitar, the more I realize he was a force of nature
It is just unbelievable good ✌️
the last guitar hero... the world will end and no one will ever get close to what he meant to music.
Me Manda Este cancion a Mi Amigo 👉 Mi Amante y Mi amor 💥💝🦎💝💥🌷
my daughter truly believes the spirit of God guided his hands!
quick my job today, played this on the ride home...
This hits me right in the heart, I'd like to talk to you all for a second if I can,
And to think he had it all back together just to be wiped away 2 years later. It's such a tragedy.
they gotta make a movie of his life. he deserves it
They would have to use his actual guitar playing... no one can duplicate him.
Always brings me to tears. Lost a brother to Heroin almost 12 years ago. Him and I absolutely adored stevie. Wish he had heard this then.
Matt Schmissrauter - I’m so sorry for your loss, brother. God bless you & your family in this time of need ❤️
@Scotty G Yes brother......peace in Jesus Christ.....the narrow path. John 3:16. God bless you brother.
Probably the best guitar solo and defiantly best guitar player. Jimi may have been an innovator for rock but stevie took his songs and riffs to the next level.
(I know this isnt a Jimi song)
Just doesn't get any better than that.
This is very reminiscent of John Mayer live at Nokia- bold as love speech. Both give a personal message in the middle of the song and go straight to the solo section/outro. Just shows how much of an admirer John was of Stevie he must’ve watched this concert a thousand times.

I never saw SRV search for a note on stage in my life.
I watched this video about 15 times today
My life changed the day he died ..I was so broken..
We lost a giant.
attended my first ever AA meeting yesterday RIP to the greatest

you are 100% correct, taken way too soon! I can only say God cleaned him up & took him home! love love love Stevie!!
Made me tear up too. I'm almost 2 years free from a decade heroin addiction myself. Wish I could've been there live but I would've only been 2 so......
Me too! Same documentary... been looking for it for years
@@Almarigold what’s the documentary may I ask?
Sober. And killing it. SRV
"Angels have waited for so long... now they have their way."
Too true, and a truly inspirational song and message: take care of yourself so you can be there for others.
SRV is the greatest guitar player the earth had and ever will see. RIP to the GOAT.
I love his message during this song!
Greatest electric blues player of all time
When the person that designed the guitar back in the day was finished they thought of someone one fine day being able to play it like this...He said "and his name will be Stevie Ray Vaughan"
amen...

Greatest performance ever. No one today can even come close to Stevie. Full of heart and soul. A true guitar hero and the best there was, the best there is, and the best there ever will be!!!
that bass and drum is in lock step and playing some serious stuff........
The whole band was tight. The musicians in double trouble are some of the most highly regarded blues artists till this day on their respective instruments and they tour currently with Mayer, Bonomassa, Buddy Guy, etc
Came here from the documentary. Mind blowing solo, so much pure emotion.
Stevie's speech made me cry the first time i listened to it in each live version on here! what an amazing man, rip!!!
I love this guy. what a great person I wish my generation grew up with people like him to look up to.
I've watched this 100 times over the decades, and every time it makes my eyes water...
U aint lying….goosebumps every time too
Still carrying that message...much love to you Stevie
Still brings a tear to the eye, epicness!! I too have been down on the ground for many years, not anymore tho. RIP Stevie!!

Watched it again that was on purpose!!!! Awesome!!!! No one in the world cares about tone as much as Mr. Vaughan
Our God is great!
twenty-five years... life without you.
i cant watch this and life by the drop, and not start crying, RIP
I just want to cry. He finally found what he was looking for and shared with us. Then, we lost him because a helicopter pilot without a license to fly in bad weather or use instrumentation flew right into a hill. So, stupid, so useless and unnecessary. RIP Stevie. We know you’re looking out for us.

Miss you everyday, Stevie. Love you forever. thumbs up for spreading the love around.
The greatest ever guitarist yes there's a lot but there not Stevie
@TheBuilder65 - You're right. And don't forget the crop of today's crap...I mean "talent" we have to suffer through. RIP SRV...you are sorely missed.
Dear Lord!
What a soul
one of his GREATEST performances EVER!!
Greatest performance of anything...ever... in the history of forever!!

All I have to ask is WHY?Stevie was a spiritual guy that should of stayed a hell of alot longer here.
the best version!
