He was basically an unused TR design, which shows with the headmaster gimmick, no COMBAT compatable weapons and his noticeable lack of waist articulation.

@@austinhinton3944 His gun has a COMBAT effect part right on the tip, and he has 5mm ports in all the necessary spots to interact with the system.
I think they just reused the titanmaster pattern because it's in-character for him and TR proved that specific headmaster system could work just fine.
What amuses me is that they gave apeface's ape face a leader class Titanmaster faceplate, meaning he's not as jarring when he's placed in those kinds of toys.
Sounded like he almost was gonna say "big ol' double" and caught himself lol
And in that moment you can feel how truly sad he is about Apeface's lack of "bloosh-ability." :/. But hey, hooray for BLOOOOOOOOOSHing anyway, right? :D

Apeface does seem like an alround missed opportunity though. Since the G1 days of the Horrorcons debut, the Beast Era improved on animal modes significantly. It is also strange that the G1 jet mode looks in better proportion than the SIEGE one. Which looks almost Broadside level bad.
Agreed I prefer my G1 overall actually ....I don’t care for this version at all...one of the worst in this line

I suppose that they could theoretically repaint/remold this as Optimal Optimus. Really all they would need to do is square-off the jet nosecone and replace the shield piece with a pair of cannons that can mount on his chest, and you'd pretty much be 90% there already.
i think he looks great! Many people complaining for him, and pics looks bad.. but when i got him in my hands i was amazed!!!

The Jet mode nose looks like one of the ghost faces that Adam Maitland makes in BeetleJuice. Especially with the teeth sticking out the bottom there.

I just slapped the Thunderwing titanmaster on his robot mode, about the only place I could. Looks pretty good.
Since the ape head slot fits into the nosecone of the jet, is it possible to sit either his headmaster or the titan master apeface head in it in jet mode? Or is there not enough clearance. I like the idea of having two heads around for shenanigans on this guy at all times.

Sucks when the parts don't fit in the ports. I had to wrap some clear tape around the handle of the gun so that it would stick underneath the cockpit when in Jet mode. I had to do the same with Ultra Magnus white rockets that attach to his arms in robot mode. Same thing with Six Guns legs...lol. SMH, They aren't always perfect but I love this line of Transformers. Probably the best, reminds me of a scaled down Masterpiece collection.

Jason Wilkerson crazy enough just got him. Gun fits everywhere but his fists including the nose cone port.

I just got him today and had to return it because amazon broke his foot off and the box was destroyed so now I have to wait for the replacement to get delivered
Am I the only one who likes the white plastic? It's almost pearl.
Also, on my copy, the gun is not loose when plugged into that front port on the cockpit, but the one for the shield was entirely too tight. I almost broke it trying to pull it out. Shaving it down with an x-acto knife solved the issue though.
That color plastic looks like it would glow in the dark. Would be cool if it did.

There’s one left on the shelf at my local toy store, looking lonely amongst all the Earthrise and Kingdom figures. Tempted to get him to put him out of his misery - my excuse is it’s for review purposes
I got it in hand right now ,,,and i have to say ,,, Awsome Figure !!!
It is clear on this one what the problem is with the battle damage of the entire line; it is overflowing and hyperconcentrated on a few spots while completely absent in others. It's like 3 or 4 panels fell of during maintenace and someone used them to skid on the concrete floor. If all the damage was spread out over the surfaces it would seem more natural. One this perticular model hiding the cockpit under the wingplate kind of cancel the idea of a clear cockpit in the first place; the pilot can't even see in front of the jet! I did spot the fake windows on that, put you either make them translucent as well or don't put windows in it and on the useless nosecone if the pilot can't see!
I'm sad that he can't wield guns in his hind feet in alt mode. In a perfect world he would hold a gun in each ape hand/foot.

Have you tried a blacklight. The lime green white means fluorescent. I can be wrong but it's worth a check.
i recently got this toy and the gun storage for the jet mode works fine. bad luck i guess :(

Not a bad figure, overall. The G1 figure’s jet mode is actually better I think but robot mode and ape mode work out pretty well for him.

I always wondered how he transformed before he became a head master. Did they use both heads to make it or did he have a weird internal mechanism to make both heads the same component?
Try explaining the situation in "The Rebirth", where his headmaster rides on his shoulder while he's in ape mode. When he's in robot mode, the ape face is clearly on the back of his robot head.

I just got him today. According to TFWiki, "Apeface's white plastic is actually super-dense nylon, which is necessary to prevent the tabs from breaking."
The nose cone port is fine on fine. Sounds like a QC problem.

Missed opportunity. I would have had this figure a couple of years ago if they had made him able to go in the actual cockpit instead of making it a faux part with a janky alt cockpit.
I just saw a Black Friday deal in Amazon for him all these years later and it's a good deal but I may just pass.
