It’s not one for me but it’s a great looking watch and this reduction in diameter seems like such a no brainier! I may well be missing something but why Hamilton ever decided to release the original Murph in 42mm is beyond me! 38mm is much more wearable for the majority of wrists. Great stuff as always MWC 👏👏👏👏
Well delve a little deeper my dear friend Gareth! Google the Hamilton khaki field pioneer! Watch is no longer available ! But all they have done is change the bezel and crown!!!!! The reason why they went with 42 to start with is because they probably had a load of pioneers that did not sell!! How could they ?!? They were 42 mm . But put it in a huge film?????;)
I hear so many complaints about the strap but when I got my 42 version awhile back, once broken in; I found it quite comfortable. Plus I find it doesn’t look like the Murph with a different strap. I did find it too large tho and did sell it. Very excited to get my hands on the smaller model! Great review:)
Churchy leaf hand 🤣 brilliant! I love my 42mm . There's just something about it. Vary elegant design with the vintage vibe. Good on Hamilton for listening to their customers. I'm ok with the strap and it does complete the look but I've worn mine on a green Marine Nationale and it looked pretty sharp. Excellent job sir. Nice to see Mister P chuffed as well 🤣❤
Great review. Maybe the 42 for me, not big on the field watch look in general. But, to be honest, I never had one on wrist, so I'm gonna try it first and comment later. The fair way to go. On the 80 hour power reserve. I would like to have a bit more than 40 hours from the standard Seiko movement. I would like a complete two days. 80 is overkill, unless you have a week day watch and do not wear it in the weekend. For now, my girlfriend will get used to the Seiko shuffle. You can imagine her look the first couple of times I was "winding" my nh34.
So funny ...a month ago I purchased my first Hamilton Watch ( Field 44 mm) and absolutely love it ....simple ..always legible and with a price Tag around $ 570 an absolute steal ! Keep up the great work as usual !
I have the ‘aviation’ Model from the movie and absolutely love it. 7 1/2 inch wrist so it works, However I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone with a slenderest because it wears quite large. I know a lot of people of been waiting for this one so good on Hamilton for listening to the masses! Beautiful watch and I would love to have the 42 or the 38 mm version.
Love this one BUT I do have the original 42 mm version and I feel I’m fortunate enough to have the wrist to wear that version. However, I recently had a 38 mm watch in my hands (the Burrard from York & Front) and was pleasantly surprised of its wearability even on MY wrist. So, I figure this 38 mm Murph version will most probably “kill it” and sell like hotcakes! Thanks for the show my friend!! Yes! You‘ve done it again! (Click it!!) 😎👍🏻
Ive got a feeling this one’s gonna end up being one of those sleeper hits from 2022. Those dimensions , simplistic design as well as its tie in to one of the most epic movies from the past decade forma a very strong trifecta that would prove to be timeless IMO
New subscriber, Rolex, Omega and Hamilton my fav brands. Hamilton don’t get a fair crack from watch you tubers, they make some beautiful very affordable pieces, great vid russ
I really hope this is the beginning of a new trend of 38mm watches. Swatch Group has so many good watches but are always of ridiculous sizes. if next they could do a Tissot Gentleman in 38… 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏
Where can I make room in the watchbox? 🤔 I was waiting for a review of this to see if my first impressions of this watch was correct and you nailed it with this review. An absolutely beautiful timepiece!
Those aren't magic numbers. Simply too many tiny men collecting watches and creating a false stigma against bigger watches. Some of us have 8 inch wrists.
@@johnsmith4071 OP specifically said "all watch collectors", hence my comment. I'm fine with 40mm, but 36mm is erring way too small. Although I agree 38/39mm seems to be a good size, the idea that a big watch is trash is personally offensive. We should be happy that all demographics can be serviced. I don't get why the watch community antagonizes big watches.
@@aureate Well I’m not a part of the watch community I just watch watch videos for fun but I can say dressier watches are typically supposed to be smaller and the watch collectors who are complaining about watch size probably have little girl wrists. And when you wear a watch it draws attention to your wrist size and especially if your wrist size is small and the watch is big.
Great show, Russ. Brilliant design on this one. The syringe minute hand and the way it lines-up with the fine markings on the chapter ring is just beautiful to behold. Got a similar handset on my Dan Henry 1945 and I love it! 👍
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR agreed. My buddy and I are bouncing around a couple of ideas for our 50 year and 60 (me) year birthdays and this one is in the running. I can handle the 42mm with my huge wheelchair pushing wrists, but my buddy can get the 38. Thanks Hamilton!
Great watch, just got mine. It wears a lot bigger than a typical 38mm Khaki (no inset numerals), but the lugs are shorter, so it will fit a smaller wrist. That's not a contradiction! Strap is ok, but its worth changing to a better one, because the watch is really worth a nice strap. Lume is meh, as per. Not really worth nearly twice a standard Khaki, but it is a little beauty.
It is strange how companies seem to think we want 80 hours of power reserve over a silky second hand ticking at 28800bph , when it's actually the other way round 🤔🤷🏻♂️, anyway having a skinny ass wrist this may find its way on to the shopping list tho the khaki titanium right now is a few hundred notes cheaper (on certain sites) and that's a sweet looking watch aswell 🤓
Also: agree. I keep my watches on winders. I could not care less about power reserve. I'd rather see them NOT clock back the 4HZ than to give me 3 days of unneeded power reserve.
Great looking watch and the perfect size. I agree the movement is a weak spot, but not due to beat rate for me it is those 80 hour movements can't be regulated at home. Good review 👍
Good review Russell. Great film and so the Murph will mean a little extra for certain film fans. Hamilton are vastly underrated anyway and, in my view, only Seiko offer as large a range of automatic watches at a slightly better price range. That said i think the Murph could have been priced a little lower. Its going to be hard to justify the Murph over the Alpinist which is nearly £200 cheaper and has that gorgeous green dial too
I love this watch. And the low beat rate is how they get the 80 hours reserve. I would gladly give up 10 or 20 hours of that for a smoother sweep, for sure.
Another top video Russ, next time I'm at the AD I'll take a look. I love the Murph and have the old one. It exudes old watch that in life looks like it was given to you by someone who's into 50 shades of beige but has a modern construction and a brilliant dial. Now in 38 I might well be tempted. You're totally right on the strap being a tad on the stiffy side if it's the same as the old one but it does settle and feels really comfortable after a few decades or less if it's near a black holes event horizon. Yup I have to give the 38 a butchers over the Crumble Holiday period. Nice one.
I'm glad they did this. I have a 42mm Murph and it wears well on me (7.5" wrist), but I've talked to friends who really wanted a Murph but find the original too big for them. They are not going to be able to produce these fast enough to keep up with demand. Definitely a winner.
Thanks for reviewing and replying to my instagram request for you to look at this one. I want this so much but have already bought a shed load of watches this year! I’ll give it a couple of months and then pull the trigger. The strap looks quite nasty I think it would look good on distressed leather or a canvas strap.
I'm sorry just because it's a field watch doesn't mean it should get a pass on loom. I use my field watches for camping and such and numerous times I've been peed off because I couldn't read the time at say 2 or 3 am. It's peed me off enough I started getting into protrek when camping or hiking cause they have back lights if the looms not up to snuff. Of course I've also gotten used to all the great features Protreks have to offer but I'd never have gone down that glorious solar quartz triple sensor rabbit hole if the loom on my mechanical field watches wasn't always letting me down.
I’m a big fan of Hamilton watches, I bought just over 12 months ago the Khaki King in black PVD, I love it, comfortable and can wear it with anything. My son then started looking at the Khaki Scuba and was planning to save for it, so I treated him to it for smashing his GCSE’s and going on to study Criminology, he was so pleased and has looked after it so much since getting it. Great video as always.
My Seiko Baby Alpinist already exists and looks even better! Better dial, clearer chapter ring, better lume, better minute and second hand better clasp, screw-down crown, display back glass... Etc. Etc...
I've got a khaki navy scuba. Its excellent. I wear it every week. Lucky for me it wears bigger than it is. Also, I need crown guards. The murph seems like its excellent quality, but without the minimum specs that I need, I'll never know hiw nice it is. No worries. Not really interested in movie watches anyway. .....cept maybe a Willard. 😂
Russ, first thank you for your great content, you inspired me to start my own watch channel! Second, great review of the Hamilton, awesome watch! Thumbs up!!
That 80hours power reserve is great for people like me: when I had a Seiko SNK I wore it on weekdays but forgot to wear it on weekends. It was a pain because it was not hand-windable like the Hamilton.
I have the SNK but I upgraded the movement to a NH36, hackable and windable and with a crystal sapphire it looks a lot like a Hamilton khaki field but for a fraction of the price.
The watch was iconic before it was even created. It was produced as a result of direct consumer demand. The order in which it came to market is very rare indeed and says it all really.
So glad that this gorgeous looking watch has been scaled down a bit and is more faithful to the film version without the morse code message on the seconds hand. Would’ve definitely been in my Christmas list if I hadn’t recently acquired my Seiko baby alpinist, which is also a great size, has nice cathedral hands, a decent power reserve, 200m water resistance and a great history!
Best waiting for a price drop as £800 is a gravimetric distortion of time, space and money ....but it does look a beauty (bit like Anne Hathaway). Thanks for reviewing Russell - The Duro is on it's way -all the way from the USA ! . - (I do listen to you) ... take care my friend !.
Love the watch, hate the strap. But that’s the good thing about strap changes. I was wondering Russ, would you recommend this Murph or one of the Nivada G. Super Antarctic models. I’ve been eyeing those as well and they’re around the same price. I’m leaning towards the Nivada with a bracelet. Partly because I feel like everyone and their mother is going to have the Murph.
Man, those still look huge on your wrist, which is a bummer, because I have the same size wrist and I just bought this watch off a friend. Can't wait to try it out.
Just swapped my 42mm , bought it new and kept it for only around a month. The long lug to lug wasn't the problem - in spite of the large dial I found the combination of the fauxtina and lack of anti-reflective coating rendered it pretty much illegible in anything other than perfect conditions. ( I'm a big fan of fauxtina normally) I can only see this problem being exacerbated on a smaller dial. Damn shame, the 42 was truly beautiful and can imagine this is even nicer. Cheers 👍🏻👍🏻
I've got a 42mm Murph and I can read the time perfectly every single time. Perhaps you should take off the jam jar glasses and get some lazer eye surgery.
Ok Russ time to pack up and hand the baton over to MrsMWC, 'Churchy leaf hand', absolutely nailed it...........its stuck in my head now like an ear worm tune, from now on when I see such hands they shall forever be known as 'churchy leaf hands', absolutely brilliant!
I too would support the resurrection of the base 2824, I think the powermatic was a wrong turn down a one way street! The extra cost of maintaining this movement will eventually discourage many consumers from purchasing the more difficult to maintain variant rather than the more Reliable base model!
Good looking watch. I am a Hammy fan to begin with. I own the Navy, a Jazzmaster and a Khacki King. I am always looking for something from Hamilton that will fill a spot that isn't already filled. I can't see any place in the wardrobe where this would fit while the Khacki king wouldn't. But I like the simplicity, and would have purchased this instead if I didn't already have the King. Thanks for keeping us up to date. My Hammy winder box is a four slot, and I only own three hammies, so sooner or later they will put something out that I need. I will certainly keep watching your channel for news!
Thanks for crushing my impuslive desire for this watch .. you are so THERAPEUTIC for me man 👏👏 (i was thinking about muggin for this watch ☠️🔪🤣) great content as always !!
In my opinion Hamilton creates some of the most classic designs in the watch industry and they are, by far, one of my favorite watch brands. The watch may be lacking a bit with lume and seiko does offer some competitive prices for their watches but Hamilton has a heratige that's priceless.
Hamilton is selling better designed watch than it used to be... Although Rolex is just a watch company that produces quality timepiece. When you buy a Rolex, you are buying the “crown” and a status symbol.
I love this channel but I don't understand the negative sentiment for the Tudor Ranger. It's a great watch! I like it much better than my Hamilton Khaki, which doesn't have a screw-down crown.
Thank you my friend! All my views and opinions about the Ranger are in the link below. I think basically though a ‘Luxury Watch’ shouldn’t be stripped that much back , you struggle to see where the luxury is ? It is a luxury watch and yet looks less luxury on the outside than this Hammy that is under 1k. Just opinion man! ruclips.net/video/lK9jN6oOXUk/видео.html

Never seen a hamilton strap that didn't belong in the bin. This watch is a winner tho
Man, those still look huge on your wrist, which is a bummer, because I have the same size wrist and I just bought this watch off a friend. Can't wait to try it out.
I prefer the detail SEIKO Alpinist SPB210J1 SPB159J1 SPB121J1 SPB155J1
A lot of SPB’s! Very nice my friend!
Great watch and video! What has happened to the intro music 🤔 I liked the old one!!
That was great fun!! I do like Hamilton as a brand, very underrated. I like to wear the chrono American classic blue, very vintage vibes. 👍
Thank you my friend! Welcome aboard!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR your very welcome sir, looking forward to more like this 👍
I agree, smooth sweep is excellent. My miyota 9015 inside my wise adamascus is mesmerizing, if you want to review it.
@@FranceIsPropertyofEngland good for you. Perhaps you should learn some manners ..
Ok Russ time to pack up and hand the baton over to MrsMWC, 'Churchy leaf hand', absolutely nailed it...........its stuck in my head now like an ear worm tune, from now on when I see such hands they shall forever be known as 'churchy leaf hands', absolutely brilliant!
mr.pagani loving the see through casebook made me LOL
Hahahaha
my next watch. love the movie, love the watch. the strap looks a bit cheap though. still not an issue
Thanks for watching my friend!!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR great review my friend
If they bring back the eta 2824 with 28800 bph and put a black date window at 6 o'clock this would be my perfect watch
Winner winner chicken dinner, the 38 looks perfect on my 7 1/4” wrist!
I had to hit pause, and collect myself, after Mr. Pagani’s candid opening statements
Mr Pagani from the Design House might be the main reason this is on my watch wish list!
Mr&Mrs MWC, you’ve done it again. Nice little Hamilton.
Cheers Dave!!!!
Thanks for crushing my impuslive desire for this watch .. you are so THERAPEUTIC for me man 👏👏 (i was thinking about muggin for this watch ☠️🔪🤣) great content as always !!
Thanks for watching my friend! This is a stunner!!
In my opinion Hamilton creates some of the most classic designs in the watch industry and they are, by far, one of my favorite watch brands. The watch may be lacking a bit with lume and seiko does offer some competitive prices for their watches but Hamilton has a heratige that's priceless.
Great job Russell as always . Interstellar was excellent movie 🤔Hamilton looks great for price and aesthetics.😊Is Mr. Pagani your older brother😂
Hamilton is selling better designed watch than it used to be...
Although Rolex is just a watch company that produces quality timepiece.
When you buy a Rolex, you are buying the “crown” and a status symbol.
I’m done with Rolex m friend, Hamilton are definitely a watch enthusiasts brand. Rolex are a status symbol brand .
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR absolutely : Rolex are a status symbol brand , by the way that Hamilton looks great on green NATO straps.
The numbers look like the Casio ProTrek PRW-50.
❤ My Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium Russ it's my most worn Watch 👌
This would make a great pair to my baby alpinist!
"Have You Got The Rubber Ring Ready? " I'm laughing here in Tennessee. ...
Hahahaha cheers my friend!
I do love the Murph, don't own a Hamilton yet and this or the 42 would be the one I would want 👌👍😊
Beautiful, classic watch. Will still look great in 100 years.
Agreed my friend!
After you've spent too much on it every three to five years for maintenance!
@@THEMADWATCHCOLLECTOR The 38mm Murph is a great looking watch. I just purchased a titanium Hamilton a few weeks before it came out. If I had known, I would have waited on the Murph.
Happy Holidays, MWC!
small wrist people: 😱😱😱😱😱
everybody else: it's a khaki we get it it's not revolutionary anymore relax
Always relaxed my friend;)
Where’s get ya watch out?
It’s always around!
It hits so many sweetspots. I could drop a few watches from collection to replace with this. Wouldnt it be great in 36 tho 🤔
Absolutely my friend!
This is a very strong package...the specs, the price and cultural reference makes this a top watch ⌚️ 👌
I feel like I need that now lol! Great review!
Me to Seth!!!!!
It’s a pity they screwed up with the strap, a nice soft strap like the NOMOS club would work a treat
you seem like such a nice bloke , if your ever in Birmingham , holla :) would defo buy you a pint. Keep on making awesome videos man!
Of course my friend! Thank you so much!
Would have been surprised if there wasn’t one mention of „4hz“ 😉
As said on the previous post: Definitely high on the wishlist, however likely second hand or if there’s any deal on a new one.
Nice daily driver you wouldn’t worry too much about babying.
Finally you did a video on armitron's
One day!!
i love my 38 murph, however all watches have that one flaw. And to each person the flaw varies.
Love Hamilton , the heritage the looks, but the lume.. Love how you said that Hamilton should get into seiko and "steal" the secret of their lume.. Great review
Thank you very much my friend!!
Awesome as always. Hamilton always being money well spent.
Thank you my friend!!
Awesome review Russ, your videos are so good and polished 👌Considering my surname is Murphy you think I'd like this watch, however it's not my cup of tea 😕. Keep up the great work 👍🏻👌
