    -- I recently purchased these three picks, I've had some time to use them and these are my thoughts. My personal favorite for my style of play and technique is the JP Flow 2mm pick, as it's an ideal size and the Ultex grip is awesome (it won't slip). The Andy James Flow pick is great too, but it's just a tad too large for my taste. The JP Jazz III is harder for me to grip and it's extra small size isn't ideal.
    For the audio comparison section, I heard a much bigger difference while I was playing the guitar and could hear the picks hit the strings. But the audio recording you hear here, I can barely notice any difference. The only exception is the last demo, I believe you can definitely hear there are more highs / treble associated with the Jazz III compared to the Flow picks.
    When you use the Jazz III pick and hear it hit the strings, compared to the Flow picks, you definitely hear a lot more highs, but that didn't translate well through my recordings. This may be based on my set up (Going in through a Kemper profiler).
    Your thoughts?

    Great explanation man and I totally agree on the tortex 1.14 versus the flow and jazz picks. That is the reason I could not get used to the jazz and flow picks. I basically religiously use the tortex 1.14 for many years now. For heavy rythm I find the tortex awesome sounding. But by watching this I maybe should try different picks again

    I work the black JP 1.4mm on my Les Paul and on my acoustics. I have been working on the red JP 2mm for a week now and I love it.

    RUclips audio often doesn't bring out the tonal differences between picks, especially with a distorted electric sound. I've tried both the JP Jazz III and the JP Flow; I'd like to try some of the standard Flows just to compare the grip. I actually prefer the JP Primetone Jazz III but they're a tad pricey in comparison.

      Ah. Since recording this, I've switched to a regular Jazz III XL series 1.3mm pick. I was having a hard time getting a clean sound with the other thicker picks when it came to striking the strings. I'll give them another go shortly.

    Good video. I could hear more Highs with the Jazz III but it comes down to if the pick doesn't feel good in your hands your not going to want to play your guitars.

      @timjenkins502 I just switched to Ultex Sharp 2.0 picks after trying about 10 or 12 Jazz III, Flow and Jazz III XL like picks... they're all a bit small for me, though I really like the taper on the Jazz III XL. There's something about how I control the pick that needs a bit more height to it.

    It would have been cool to add the "Zenfire" Phat Jazz or Fusion picks to this review. I've tried tons of picks and I'm totally stuck on them, partly because of the grip pads .... but oOoH that tone!

    • @BigDatsquatch
      @BigDatsquatch 3 года назад

      Curious, how does playing with metal picks affect the longevity of your strings?

    • @davidwoods358
      @davidwoods358 3 года назад

      They do not adversely affect the longevity of the strings at all. My main electric, which I play (hard every day) has had the same set of Ernie Ball Cobalt 9's on it for over 3 years now with no breaks and they still sound crisp. I don't gig so I don't change strings unless I break one. I have to have a rigid, toneful pick with a dedicated grip or I just can't play. FYI, I'm the guy who makes the Zenfire Picks so I may be a bit bias but, this is the actual truth. There's better products out there than plastic picks if people care to investigate. I have customers tell me all the time that my picks are better than anything they have ever tried.

    Sorry. I'm a huge dunlop pick fan. I just can't choose. For me as long as its a dunlop it will always do the job. I use different kinds of dunlop.jazz iii series for soloing or shredding as they call it now a days and the rest for strumming or plucking.lol.

  • @Pedalante

    I think the treble issue is due to Ultex. I own one Ultex Jazz III 2.0 and clearly (during playing, not on record, as you said) the standard red Jazz III has more treble. Nice vid!

    Ultex chirp way too much. The chirp is almost as loud as the played note played. Ultex picks at 0.88 & below avoid it. That’s why I prefer Tortex & Gator grip Jazz III
