Dang, I thought SFM was going to be confusing, but it is really easy! I cannot wait to get my hands on a Beta, or the full release. I have plenty of ideas to convert into tf2 videos.
Videos like this and on the source filmmaker site only make me want this software even more (This official public release not the broken outdated version from the 2007 TF2 Beta). It looks so awesome from what I can see so far. I like how Valve is starting with TF2 but will branch out to other games over time. Can't wait to get a beta key or it's official release depending on which comes first (It will likely be the latter for me).
wow, you guys have done a LOT since the original leak, and not a single crash during an almost 10 minute time! seems to be a lot more responsive as well.... i can't WAIT to get my hands on the new version! (ofc, ive only made 1 10-minute film using SFM, and it wasn't too popular, so i bet I'll have to wait for the non-beta release XD)
at 5:15 you said we could possibly render the scene unusable if we mess around too much (that's gonna be a problem for me...) will the SFM files have a human-readable interface so that we can fix it using a text editor like the VMF file structure? (why doesnt hammer just block quotes from the properties or replace them with the apostrophies....)
I suppose you have to create a second clip inside your session to load another map (select the second clip in the time viewer, right-click on the viewport and press "load map"*, then choose your map) (* or anything similiar)
Thank you for that tutorial, can't wait to see how you make the character models look more detailed in your movies than in game! P.S. 4:22 Gesundheit:)
Looks like an upcoming video! What I think is that Valve might do monthly episodes. Actually... How are we sure this guy ISN'T working for Adult Swim?!?!?!?!?
it is editable by the public, yes, but they do get a final say on it, and they can work on it internally if they choose, and since SFM has never been officially released, the SFM wiki is mostly valve work (there's a couple things that the beta leak users have contributed, but a lot of it is outdated by now)
4:22 - Bless you. I was wondering. When are you guys sending the wave of invites I registered as soon as you posted "Introducing the Source Filmmaker" . I really want to start learning how to use this.
it depends on how they built it. the source engine now is native multi-platform, but we have no clue what modifications they have made to the core engine for this. it may technically run on a mac, but many things may (will) be buggy from release, due to differences in graphics processing. I assume this is what the beta is for. as most of valve's computers are exactly the same, they only try it with one set of hardware. so the beta lets them test a wide variety of hardware to eliminate bugs
I'm so eger to get my head into this! Can't a fellow filmmaker, working editor and famous Garry's Mod movie maker get a copy of the beta a little faster? :) Pleeeeeeeease!
Uff, maybe I should have watched those tuts first before investing 300+ hours into SFM :P it might be a bit late but I wanted to say thank you Valve for the editor and those free tutorials, you're awesome!
Can't believe you didn't notice that the scout that ran next to the pyro is red, while the scouts that start and end the scene are blue... It's mistakes like these that make me wonder...
I haven't actually tried this but i'm almost certain it's because SFM uses its own file format for video projects. If you want to share the video or watch it in a media player you have to *export* the video.
and their wiki on it has been up for quite a long time (ofc that might also help new employees) for those who have... not quite as legal versions of it
Hey i have a small problem. SFM wont save my movie into any standard format (MP3,MP4,MOV,exe...) How can i change it so it will be able to be uploaded to RUclips without any problems? Because mine wont open with any relative format that is standard?
It will work on ANY Source game: Half-Life, Portal, DOD, CounterStrike, Left4Dead, Alien Swarm, any game mod for any of the above, and of course Dota 2. At the moment, though, they're only releasing it for Team Fortress 2.
I'm having problems! It won't let me render the video. It gets to around 98% in the rendering process and then stops. It gives me a "Not Responding" message for SFM. When I go to try and find the file in its location, it's not there. Anything I'm doing wrong?
Great sneeze 10/10 - IGN and Valve
Like dark souls but sneeze
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
I love how there are 0 cuts in these tutorials. One take. One chance. One sneeze.
The monotone " I have to sneeze ", the sneeze itself combined with the Scout's mischievous face on the screen made me laugh so hard xD
4:20 best part in all the episodes of SFM tutorials
Nice number
I KNOW THAT THIS WAS EIGHT YEARS AGO BUT LMFAO
@@sluggsquid7509HAHAHAHA
That casual "I have to sneeze" tho
4:20 Bless you

6:58 "I'll teach you how to make custom ones later"
End of series.
I really hope there's more, this is pretty informative.

Bluecore
After 5 years, he finally gets the "bless you" he deserves.
bless you...
Lol: "This could easily corrupt your scene into an unrecoverable state." *voice change* "now that I told you that, let's go something..."
Dang, I thought SFM was going to be confusing, but it is really easy!

This makes me appreciate the promo videos so much more. Seeing how much work goes into them is amazing.
I like how the top 3 comments are about him sneezing.
+doc Son I like how yours is the 2nd
Luke Hinchliffe I like how about half of these comments are about people comemnting on him sneezing.
1 year later, it is now the top 8
*top 7
WTF
random-ass sneez ftw
you know you should add your sneeze as a SFX in SFM...just saying XD
bless you.
i came to learn film maker stuff.....1 minute into the video and my brain is cooked like a pancake on pancake day.
I cannot believe how helpful this is! Thank you so much!

Thanks Valve! I just watched most of the tutorials and I'm amazed by what Source Filmmaker can do! Can't wait to try it. Thank you!
These are some of the best tutorials for anything ever :)

Is there a way to change a daytime map such as ctf_2fort into a nighttime map? Perhaps there's a way to change the skybox texture?
I have to sneeze. Achoo. Thats closed captions for you.
I suppose you have to create a second clip inside your session to load another map (select the second clip in the time viewer, right-click on the viewport and press "load map"*, then choose your map)

It takes serious talent to regain composure that fast after sneezing...
"i have to sneeze **INHALE* AACHEOWWW"
If we keep this up... by the time he shows us everything in the software we'll be sending him "Thank you" letters.
The sneeze heard 'round the world.
Thank you for that tutorial, can't wait to see how you make the character models look more detailed in your movies than in game!
P.S. 4:22 Gesundheit:)
4:20 "I have to sneeze" Haha Valve even the little things like this love you more.
That sneeze made my day. Thank you.
Looks like an upcoming video!
What I think is that Valve might do monthly episodes. Actually...
How are we sure this guy ISN'T working for Adult Swim?!?!?!?!?
The sneeze is still legendary.
These videos are awesome! Do you think we could have some tutorials/walkthroughs on audio (sound design/music)?
my god the dynamic lighting looks beautiful
I love how half of the comments are about the sneeze XD
4:22 HOLY SHET, BLESS YOU (u fkng scared me ;-;)
DAT SNEEZE OH JEEBUS HELP US
wait, he sneezes? I didn't know Valve employees were human!
Great tutorials would love to see more :D
the sneeze was very informative and got me a bitch with big babamelons
Awesome! I think I might get into this. :3 Thank you guys for releasing such a powerful program.
it is editable by the public, yes, but they do get a final say on it, and they can work on it internally if they choose, and since SFM has never been officially released, the SFM wiki is mostly valve work (there's a couple things that the beta leak users have contributed, but a lot of it is outdated by now)
Hooray! This will help me. Can you guys include DoF in the camera tutorial?
This is all so amazing. I am so impressed with the capabilities of this program
I have to sneeze... lol! very funny!
bless you!
great tuts & thanx!
going to give SFM a try!
4:22 - Bless you.

3:45 This is a very useful feature for character lighting.
I'm so eger to get my head into this!

Pleeeeeeeease!
When will we get the Source Filmmaker? :)
knowing basic lighting is good, but that sneeze is better
Uff, maybe I should have watched those tuts first before investing 300+ hours into SFM :P it might be a bit late but I wanted to say thank you Valve for the editor and those free tutorials, you're awesome!
If you wanna talk about continuity, the pyro only shows up in that one shot and it's painfully obvious in the last shot that he isn't there anymore.
I can't see the volumetric lighting on my preview. Can I turn up the graphics options on my preview to see this?
I guess I'm not the first one pointing out this, but the scout is not saying "Good job buddy" as it was recorded in one of the first tutorials.
What do you do if you want your clip to feature multiple maps? Do you edit it together separately with a different program?
Did you click "Save As"? Clicking "Save" means it will keep the items you added in your old session, click "Save As" and save it as dmx file
This is freakin' sweet stuff. I honestly cannot wait to get my hands on this!
75% of comments - "Bless you."
5% of comments - "Thanks!"
20% of comments - "I don't get this."
4:20
1. That was the most professional sneeze I've ever heard...
2. Gesundheit
this looks awesome, can't wait to get my hands on it
Mothersfmer hust sneezed, funniest shit i ever heard
Uh, Valve, I signed up for a key 2 days ago and I dont have it yet...
Are you trying to prevent me from making cool animations?
fantastic
I cannot wait to get this program ^.^ Great to have this in the meantime though. Thank you so much.
So what if I want to add characters that aren't in the game, like the ponies or Scout's mom?
Can't believe you didn't notice that the scout that ran next to the pyro is red, while the scouts that start and end the scene are blue... It's mistakes like these that make me wonder...
The blu scouts are behind the camera
The sneeze that cost him a job.
When the scout runs by the pyro, he goes from blue to red.
I haven't actually tried this but i'm almost certain it's because SFM uses its own file format for video projects. If you want to share the video or watch it in a media player you have to *export* the video.

I was a fan of tf2 and now I found out about source film maker I never been happier
and sneezing like a boss while doing it!
It will work on ANY Source game: Half-Life, Portal, DOD, CounterStrike, Left4Dead, Alien Swarm, any game mod for any of the above, and of course Dota 2. At the moment, though, they're only releasing it for Team Fortress 2.
If you play the sound of him sneezing backwards he says Half Life 3's release date.
is there supposed to be flourescent.raw only in the correction folder?
You have a beautiful sneeze sir.
Who do you think you are, Doc?
Valve?
the sneeze is the best part here
I'm going to watch these over a thousand times whilst I use the program
where did the music of the movie went? I mean it had a little drumms before
I Have a question. when i open SFM it comes up normally until it goes into which film to choose. the Actual SFM Window wont open!
DIIIS-MISSED!
Can't wait to learn custom color correction.
Oh wow, just the announcement and there's already previews and guides? Nice.
BLESS YOU, MY GOOD MAN!
I'm having problems! It won't let me render the video. It gets to around 98% in the rendering process and then stops. It gives me a "Not Responding" message for SFM. When I go to try and find the file in its location, it's not there.
Anything I'm doing wrong?
Bless you
What'd you do to fix it? I haven't found anything yet.
Awesome to hear the voice of Gabe Newell!
