This really shows you can make lots of killer riffs by just playing 1 open chord over and over but with a snazzy, muted rhythm to it. This is one reason I enjoy playing rhythm guitar so much. Trying to think if my metal band has any riffs like that... a little bit, it's more we have a few riffs inspired by the concept (as ours either switches to a different chord or are intersected by quick single note riffing.)

absolutely EVERY meshuggah riffs are in 4/4 (or 6/8 in very particular songs) but don't seem to be at all, that's the most incredible part about their music in my opinion

So what we learned today, kids, is that the same metal riff can be played in different tunings and time signatures.
What makes these cool is they have unique rhythms and grooves. It's less the riff and more about the way it's played
