Bonny river is one of the most dangerous places, lots of pirates lurking around with AK47s openly placed in their small speedboats. Had a friend who was departing Bonny river when pirates opened fire at their bridge (the steering area) and they did evasive manoeuvres, basically hard port/hard starboard to shake of the pirates. kudos to all the sailors out there keeping the world moving.
Karanvir you and others like you are the true definition of sacrifice!!. You leave your loved ones for weeks at a time, put yourself in risky situations, and take on a huge amount of responsibility. I was truly shocked and disappointed to find out how under payed you are. It's a shame the industry/company insults your abilities and sacrifices with the wages they pay. And through it all you smile and keep a positive disposition. Your a truly wise man my friend, who will succeed at any endeavor you take on. Stay happy, stay safe!
My cousin is large Tow Boat Captain in Texas, pushing barges mostly from Brownsville to New Orleans. He works six on, six off for weeks at a time. He’s usually on the boat for 4 weeks then has two weeks off, although that can vary. He’s worked like that, six on, six off for over 30 years. As you can imagine he’s one of those folks than can go to sleep just about anytime he wants to,. Just lie flat, close his eyes, and he gone in five minutes. He usually sleeps most of the first day or two he’s back. A crazy life but it pays well. He averages $150 to 200K a year depending on how many weeks he takes off. He has his all waters, unlimited tonnage license from previous work over the years but he prefers to stay closer to home now. He’s only got a few more years till he retires. As for narrow channels, I live near Houston, Texas. The Houston Ship Channel is one of the busiest ports in the world and much of it based upon a bayou that has been dredged out over the years. The channel is so narrow there is a maneuver on how to pass each other. It’s called Texas Chicken. You can find it on Google even.
you have every right to be proud of yourself, I really love watching your adventures at sea, thank you for giving the viewers a wonderful look at your life on the ships
I was telling a friend about your channel and the high quality of the filming and content. You are without doubt one of the best you tubers on here. Thank you again.
That is fantastic that you got the opportunity to learn/practice holding position. Looked like a good place for a first time - just enough wind and current to keep you on your toes and make you actually work at it. If it had been too calm you wouldn't have had to do much, might not have learned as much.
I'm preparing for the entrance exam of Armed forces , but I really love your videos coz even though your didn't make it through , you built a new path for yourself 👏♥️
We ran halfway around the world using paper maps, notice to mariners, single helmsman, and a compass for our heading. No GPS, just maps and lookouts. Definitely no thrusters to keep our ship straight. We use to also have to compensate for set and drift as we navigated. We used a paper maneuvering wheel to plot CPA, closest point of approach. The best electronics we had were the SPA 25G Scopes. Very basic. All green and black. LOL. I can’t imagine how advanced the ships are now. So easy to navigate and stay on course.
Very interesting vlog Karan. Learn how to navigate a dangerous river, where pirates lurk, and what it's like in an African port. Your vlogs are an experience for me. 👏👏👏❤️
I don't have any idea about merchant navy but these views are beyond amazing and much more satisfying and the deep green colour was unbelievable 💕... Thanks and keep uploading much more great content

Hello KSN, always looking forward to your videos. How come I've never seen you show a clip of the captain, in any of the videos. Hats off. I feel like Juan Sebastián Elcano and Ferdinand Magellan from the comfort of my living room
At 3:26, one would swear the pier was a shaking, I remember the first time I was on a moving ship back in 1965, from my vantage point it looked like the pier was moving and we were stationary, I'll never forget that first minute...
It's always great to see ship operations in different ports, watching the rolling effect was honestly quite frightening, obviously this one was a cracking but I had a query that will you upload videos in the next 2months after watching ur insta story its wondering in my mind 😅 best of luck 🎉💯⛵
Never mind your sea emergency young man lol. You have caused me to have an addiction that I cannot shake off and I need an apology NOW! A few weeks ago I saw you eating Orios and seeing you eating them has caused me to keep buying and eating them. I eat them straight from the pack or I dip them in tea or I dip them in coffee. I may need counselling or therapy thanks to you, haha! 🌑🌑🌑🌑
Another awesome vlog ❤️. I also plan to start vlogging as soon as I start my first sail after some days. You have been a real inspiration for me in joining Merchant Navy that's why joined TMI and completed my ETO course. Looking forward to meet you someday and always keep posting your awesome vlogs Sir❤️
Regarding your joke about getting a girlfriend in a foreign port: I heard a story from a mariner I knew. He said that a shipmate went as far as having a wife in California and another in Hong Kong. He even had kids with both women. It all came crashing down when his wife in California decided to fly to Hong Kong as a surprise for his birthday. He quickly went from two wives to zero wives. It didn't work out so well for the mariner I knew though. He got the reverse treatment. His wife took up a boyfriend when he was away.
Karan bro awesome vlog. 👌 👌very interesting content. You explain the things very well. Good information on dynamic positioning. Happy sailing and looking forward to more such interesting vlogs
