      @@lockskelington314 Or if you're willing to use 'unofficial' material you can play as an awakened Cat using Dogs and Dungeons supplement Cats and Catacombs. Though word is that it's soon to be an official supplement with their new world book ala the Critical Role settings as it's going to be available for D&D Beyond.

    I am surprised that they left out the Razorclaw Shifter, which is usually a popular choice. In 3.5 it was a Claw unarmed attack that uses Dex instead of Str. Cliffwalk was also a trait also but it was one of the weakest. It only provided full speed Climb. They should have combined Razorclaw and Cliffwalk into one single trait allowing a razorclaw to use those claws to climb at full speed. Give them Athletics as a skill and unarmed Dex claw attack like the tabaxi. In fact, I'm going to add this to as a subclass to D&D Beyond for Shifters.

    In so many campaigns I’m in we’ve had shifters in other lands be essentially subjugated and domesticated and treated like pets and stuff. It makes for a really interesting dynamic, especially if they go to Ebberon and other stuff and see their people free

    My cousin said he wanted to be a shifter with the traits of an otter one time, but we were having a hard time figuring out what kind of subrace would accept something like an otter, 'cause there isn't any aquatic subraces by the look of it, so he's just putting that idea on the side with his other maybe characters (this guy has A LOT of character ideas) that he can use if his current character dies.

    So I would like to preface this with the fact that dndbeyond is literally one of my favorite websites and I really enjoy these videos. However I believe they can be improved. The cameras are nice enough however you have the fstop too low so he is moving in and out of focus, plus you have a generic background behind him you could have just used a Gaussian blur behind him. His head is too close to the top of the frame, not leaving any headroom. Last thing is you need a lot more b roll than one graphic art. For example when he lists his novella you could show it. These are just a few things that can drastically improve these videos.

    So, do Shifters look human but gain some characteristics of their beast-like bloodline when they shift? Besides that, I would love to play one. Shifter Ranger or Rogue Scout based on tracking and hunting sounds fun. Or a Shifter Wizard who wants to uncover the origins of his kind.

    • @hardrockmusickid

      It sounds like they look more "Island of Doctor Moreau" than fully human, but can become MORE beastlike when they transform.

    • @TheBeastr
      @TheBeastr 5 лет назад

      I've understood it as those secondary characteristics in both their psyche and physical appearance. From sharper teeth and fangs, extended/harder nails that are claw like on a humanoid form. As they are supposedly a race that nearly mimics mortal lifestyles especially humans when not in their homeland. While they may have longer (and wilder) hair, as well as their facial features being shaped to match the animal they aligned with such as my own bloodhunter shifter who took wildhunt to skillfully track monsters and vile creatures. The thing is nothing besides growing a snout with teeth to match really changes besides the transformation being hairier, beefier. So I've been described as some sort of more human than werewolf in game (out of game, the party laughs as I'm some sorta Skin Walker to them.) I've seen that if your avaine you get more angler features too. Kinda wanted to be a birdman but DM didnt think I'd work with our Yuanti. Lol Snake man vs. Bird man

    • @ambeauman
      @ambeauman 5 лет назад +4

      Josh Korte it’s not announced. Wayfinder’s Guide is in this weird grey area between an official setting book and the Unearthed Arcana playtest material. The origins release actually had the word “playtest” in it, but people lost their minds about having payed for something and it only being playtest. Since then it’s been removed. But hopefully if there’s enough interest and people are able to kinda try out some of the new mechanics and give feedback they might do a book down the road... who knows...

    I still don't get what era eberron is set in. Is it like medieval age just with more magic, or victorian era, or renaissance? Like there are trains and airships, but there are people with swords and plate armor too. I'm confused.

    • @whitedwarf9090
      @whitedwarf9090 5 лет назад +2

      The trains and air ships run off magic. Think steam punk but replace the steam with magic lol thats the best way to describe it but there are a lot of clock work machines in dnd in a whole. Remember its fantasy world.

    • @Desdemona-XI
      @Desdemona-XI 5 лет назад +1

      Its a very steampunk world. So elements of it are victorian and older. And others are very advanced. Its basically the result of if magic became stable and commonplace enough in dnd to be industrialized on a massive scale and had a few centuries to do so.

    I feel Shifters should have been more of an attribute than a true race, much like lycanthropes in previous books. Mainly because humans aren't the only ones who would be able to live in harmony with their inner beast. Cursed Dwarves, Elves and even Kobolds should be able to procreate and allow their offspring to learn to control their beast within, right?
