    I am running an Eberron game right now where an ancient forge was turned on, deep in the swamps of Droaam. The party left it on and then caused hell all through Droaam to the border of Breland. Now there is a huge diplomatic crisis! Some want to take an army into Droaam. Some want to use diplomacy. I don't know what is going to happen, but it's getting very exciting! Remember, the Sisters want recognition as a nation, which the Treaty of Thronehold did not give them. It's going to be an interesting couple of Fridays over the coming weeks. Getting this book will only help assist me in running this already complex and great game. :)

    Awhile back in a previous incarnation of Eberron my gaming group played a squad of warforged soldiers during the Last War belonging to a unit that came to be called the " Iron 8th ". We had a lot of fun slogging through the mud and conflict just trying to survive. Maybe now it is time to revisit our old characters and find out what those warforged veterans are doing with themselves. Maybe they can make a new life for themselves beyond the Last War, beyond the horror and the meager victories.

      In my opinion they really wanted to revolve things around one campaign, because if everyone playing D&D has a general idea about the motivations and such they are less likely to end up confused and mess up there rp. But other settings should ideally exist for people who are experts at D&D lore and desire something new, But at that point most people homebrew anyway.

      @ak318 4 года назад +1

      Like WotC would have made a much bigger deal out of new subclasses if any were being released. From what has been said the 3 subclasses are for the artificer and that is it for this book. Like there is alot of other stuff anyway from new races, to dragonmarks and magic items like not every book needs new subclasses and with UA these would have needed a bigger gap between coming out and book release as they need to send a bit in advance the pages to the printers and alot of time needs to be spent as well as on content on layout and art. let's just be happy with what we have.

  • @AdamDeLocke
    @AdamDeLocke 4 года назад +9

    WoTC somewhat jumped the gun on a lot of the changes of the races in my opinion. I mean, yes, the integrated protection for Warforged from the UA was stupidly broken and definitely needed fixing to where the current changes feel fair but they needlessly stripped out the subraces that sort of made Warforged unique and feel like they were indeed created with specialized purposes. Feels like they beat Warforged with the Nerf Hammer a few too many times to the point of being flat and bland. As for the Changelings, I don't think the removal of Unsettling Visage and Divergent Persona was needed and although you could argue they don't make sense, removing them all together and not replacing them with something else makes the race feel more empty and lacking features. Kalashtar definitely feel more balanced but the removal of the range limit of Mind Link didn't seem necessary. And don't get me started on Wildhunt Shifters. You pretty much made a subrace that Barbarians can now play to get free advantage on Reckless Attacks without the downsides. Granted, it's once per long rest but if you're pairing it with a Berserker Barbarian, you're pretty much getting 3 attacks at advantage with no downside when you decide to go all out.

    I really liked Guildmasters Guide, thought it was one of the best 5e supplements, and am really looking forward to Eberron.
    One piece of criticsm - it would have been great to advance the story a bit, so mayb it was set 7 years after the last war rather than 2. It would just give the setting a fresh wind and allow for a bit more progression, and you don't really lose anything about how the War is still important to the setting and to the characters.
    Too late now, but just my two cents!

    • @BalooSJ
      @BalooSJ 4 года назад +3

      I strongly disagree. A big draw of the setting is that it has *just* come out of the Last War, and everything is still on the edge. It is a setting full of potential, and moving it forward necessitates *resolving* some of that potential, thus reducing its use for actual campaigns.
      The closest real-world analogy I can think of is the "roaring 20s". The Last War is very similar to WW1, in that it was highly destructive, brought forth many new technologies, and didn't really have a conclusive ending. They even brought home the analogy by having the armistice treaty signed on the equivalent of November 11 in a lightning rail cart. So, the setting is highly dependent on this post-war era of prosperity and intrigue with the wounds of the war still fresh. Moving the timeline forward would change that - just like the stories you'd tell of a 30s Europe or America would be very different from the stories you'd tell about a 20s Europe or America.
      The point of a published campaign setting is not for the designers to tell a story. It is to let DMs and players tell their own stories. Many published settings make this mistake, and I don't want to see that happen to Eberron.
