  • This is an audition video of David Holt singing and performing on Guitar, banjo, bones, harmonica, washboard and others. He sings and tells stories about his mucical mentors.
    For over three decades, Davids passion for traditional music and culture has fueled a successful performing and recording career. He has earned four Grammy Awards and performed and recorded with many of his mentors including Doc Watson, Grandpa Jones, Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs, Roy Acuff and Chet Atkins. Today he tours the country perfoming solo, with Doc Watson and with his band The Lightning Bolts.
    Four-time Grammy Award winner David Holt is a musician, storyteller, historian, television host and entertainer, dedicated to performing and preserving traditional American music and stories. Holt plays ten acoustic instruments and has released numerous recordings of traditional mountain music and southern folktales.
    Holt is well known for his television and radio series. He is host of public television's Folkways, a North Carolina program that takes the viewer through the Southern Mountains visiting traditional craftsmen and musicians. He served as host of The Nashville Network's Fire on the Mountain, Celebration Express and American Music Shop. He has been a frequent guest on Hee Haw, Nashville Now and The Grand Ole Opry. David can also be seen as a musician in the popular film, O Brother Where Art Thou.

    Wow! This guy is a monster! I would love to see him in concert. Judging from his story about the 123 year old lady I'd say this was from about 1980? I wish I had half as much talent!

    1990. He said she was born in 1870 so it'd be about 1993.

    David Holt is the best. This is obviously dated. He dresses better now--f that matters. Not really. His performances are fantastic. Ge all his albums. Many thanks for posting.

    Mountaineers? I think he means mountain folk.
