I am so blessed to be able to say I have attended church with them for many years. They are such wonderful people. To hear "I Can't Sit Down" live and in person is amazing : ) May I live to half as full of a life as Bro. Mainer!!!
I saw them at a Legends show in Owensboro Kentucky at a bluegrass festival. They were the hit of the show. At 100 years old, he and his wife were flawless.
My grandpa was born in 1888 he owned a banjo like this man is playing , he made and repaired violins and played the banjo. People don't play this kind of music anymore! My parents called this music foot stomping music. They called it this because you just can't sit still even when you are sitting. It's a shame when musicians like this pass on because too often their music dies as well.... I love this kind of music... RIP Mr. Mainer...
Wade was my husband’s great-uncle and we were privileged to be with them at several family reunions in North Carolina. He and his wife were wonderful people and enjoyable. They came to Texas 30 or 40 years ago to visit my father-in-law. 🥰🥰😍
And I thought ole Stringbean was one heck of a SHOWMAM - not to mention his fabulous old-time banjer style and skill. Wade has the similar banjer style and skill, but one heck of a showmanship style ALL of his OWN. WOW ! The Mainer Brothers really do stand uniquely apart, amongst the best in the genre of 30's roots music and their very unique stringband sound and singing / arrangement style. This clip is a TREASURE. Thank you so much banjofolk ! P.S. - I just LOVE Wade's old-time accent, too !
104 yrs. of life, and almost 74 years of marriage. And performed 70 years ago (1941) for President FDR & Eleanor,at the White House,by request. And retired from the GM Plant in 1973,after 21 years, WOW !
Just released ! A new book about Wade Mainer- "Banjo on the Mountain" My first 100 years, by author : Dick Spottswood. You can get the book at Ernest Tubb Record Shops, or most Barnes & Noble Bookstores.Just released -September 2010. Wade's still kickin, at 103 ! So is wife,Julia,91 !
This and the other David Holt videos with the Mainers are absolute treasures. Mr. Mainer was one of the first banjo players I heard some fifty years ago. On this clip he`s playing the Gibson Granada banjo Elderly Instruments was trying to sell for him. Wish I had the $100,000 they were asking....
I don't know when this was filmed, but it was uploaded in May, 2008, when Wade was 101. He's 104 now, living in Michigan. And both he & Julia are still fine musicians.
This brings back SO many good memories of getting up on Saturday morning to watch Fire on the Mounain @ 11:00 a.m., 3 P.M. & again @ 10. Is there any ful episodes.
I'd say Wade, performing for 8 decades, and singing for President FDR at the White House in 1941,and having a radio show with Woody Guthrie, ought to be inducted into Nashville's Country Music Hall of Fame. Everyone, ought to write the Hall Of Fame,a letter, suggesting him. I think it's a political thing, though.

RIP Wade Mainer. Thanks for all the beautiful music.
Mr. Mainer would have been 79 or 80 when this was taped. He is now 101 and still plays occasionally. This is one of my favorite clips ever! Thanks!

These songs, Log Cabin in the Lane and Shout Lula, keep playing over and over in my head. Wade is one of the greatest!
I was honored to perform at his 100th birthday.

A Master of American Music. Just not bluegrass,old-time,gospel,or country, but all.
Thanks,Wade.
Priceless...absolutely priceless.

Just awesome reminded me of Grand folks place . This is all us kids heard .
Simple, down home talent. Who needs TV!
WONDERFUL to see Wade and Julia on here- I wish there were some more recent clips of him! This is great tho!

Wow. What ever happened to just plain and simple, good music?

I LOVED this show when it was on TNN. I wish I had these shows (complete) on video but, unfortunately, didn't tape this back then.
Wade is amazing!
Thanks for posting. Some great classic footage.
I like these folks.
Great stuff!! Love it
This was one of my favorite shows on TNN. Would love to find more episodes :) If possible.
Wow, that is awesome, I don't know what else to say.
Right On, BionicBrain ! They all sure must be having a grand old time jamming together, 'over in the gloryland'.
Beautiful
Absolutely amazing!!!
Nice Uncle Dave impression!

Wade Mainer is still alive, he's 102 years old and still performs!
Sitting on David's right as he makes the introduction sits the late Don Stover, or his twin brother!!
Wade Mainer, Stringbean, Uncle Dave Macon, Grandpa Jones, George Pegram. We'll probably never see anyone like them again.
When Ralph Stanley, was a kid, he went to see Wade Mainer, perform. There's about a 20 yr. age difference.
Thanks for this...
That is the way I understand melodic banjo playing : Thumb and index can play both, or alternatively. Thumb or index can lead each at its time. :)
I do shout little lulie in some of my shows!
Here, here, BionicBrain2 !! Well said !!
Fire on the Mountain was my favorite show on TNN, sure brings back alot
of memories. Do you have more from
the show?
Great stuff. Looks like he's playing 2 finger style!
He was mostly a self taught picker. I doubt he considered it 2 or 3 finger , but just pickin

Little Log Cabin in the Lane
fun
Is this a 2-finger style of banjo picking?
Who is playing the double bass fiddle?
Круто
Does anyone know what tuning he is in on Shout Little Loulie?
TheGhost5600. c
just need to play with the tung and it will be all
hillbilly heyday back in the day
& that's a shame. This was real tv.
1 person sat down..
I broke up with my girlfriend, this song reminds me of her... But it's ok, she's still my cousin
