Cut in the middle of a word that starts with something that looks like "cr-" or "dr-" or "kr-", etc. (there are other words that can LOOK like your mouth is saying "cr-", but don't actually make those sounds; this is why lip reading is more art than science (maybe someone has put AI onto the problem?)) Then cut to a video that has a word ending in something like "-ep", "-em", etc. Since your brain is being fed the "real" word via audio, it will often override your eyes in case they cut together "dr-" and "-em". It's hard work, but if done well like this the effect is OUTSTANDING!!!
I just want to point out the nuance that elevated this video to Pulitzer Prize contender this year. At 0:58 when the fiddler shows up as a clip, you can hear a fiddle obbligato rising to the top of the music. Someone had to either sample that or actually play it for literally two seconds of pure finesse. Bravo.
