Lyrics:
Well, I'm standing on the corner of Lafayette
State of Louisiana
Wondering where a city boy could go
To get a little conversation
Drink a little red wine
Catch a little bit of those Cajun girls
Dancing to Zydeco

Just fantastic - all I have to say.
I saw him with his african musicians in 2008 in Stuttgart on the Jazz festival. For me it was one of the best concerts I heard. Craceland is the socalled century cd. He wss the first who connected the african music with the western music.
There is hardly a better joy than your music . It makes me so happy and just wants to dance to it

I just want to say thank you Lafayette, Louisiana for inspiring this song. Et Troir!
There is always something special about Paul’s voice that makes you captivate 💕
Mark Stewart is an absolutely phenomenal musician. Apart from his brilliant guitar playing, he is a supremely competent saxophonist, plays the cello excellently (amongst other instruments) and on top of all that, he is an excellent singer.
Sounds like music from my home state of Louisiana
I've seen him three times in concert. Once in a large Stadium after Graceland came out. Then in a 300-seat intimate seating then you. And then on his farewell tour in Chicago.
Only Paul Simone can get all these many old hyppies in one spot. Out of their fox holes. good job Paul

LYRICS
A long time ago, yeah, before you was born, dude
When I was still single and life was great
I held this job as a traveling salesman
That kept me moving from state to state
[Chorus 1]
Well, I'm standing on the corner of Lafayette
State of Louisiana
Wondering where a city boy could go
To get a little conversation
Drink a little red wine
Catch a little bit of those Cajun girls
Dancing to Zydeco
[Verse 2]
Along come a young girl, she's pretty as a prayer book
Sweet as an apple on Christmas day
I said, "Good gracious can this be my luck
If that's my prayer book, Lord let us pray"
[Chorus 2]
Well, I'm standing on the corner of Lafayette
State of Louisiana
Wondering what a city boy could do
To get her in a conversation
Maybe drink a little red wine
Dance to the music of Clifton Chenier
The King of the Bayou
[Verse 3]
Well, that was your mother and that was your father
Before you was born, dude, when life was great
You are the burden of my generation
I sure do love you, well let's get that straight
[Chorus 3]
Well, I'm standing on the corner of Lafayette
Across the street from The Public
Heading down to the Lone Star Cafe
Maybe get a little conversation
Drink a little red wine
Standing in the shadow of Clifton Chenier
Dancing the night away
Remember skiffle groups using scrub boards in the 50’s london
Ah yes, take a beautiful Ludwig drum kit and cover it up with rags, that'll sound GREAT. lol
Don't ever quit playing the guitar Paul. Let Artie sing. 🤭
Great song, but "you are the burden of my generation" is the most boomer thing I have ever heard.
